I discuss and demonstrate a DaBell Story Melody Maker in the key of A and do some comparision to a standard tuned diatonic harp. #dabellharmonica #harmonica
My main instruments are Seydel Solo 12s - in Brendan Powers Power Chromatic tuning (Orchestra). Every draw note is able to bend at least a semi tone - and they are air tight - so no need to half valve like the Lucky 13s. I also play standard diatonic, as well as power bender tuned Session Steels. I know folks get weird about alternative tunings... a lot of folks take things way to seriously The biggest challenge is finding instructional material - even the creator has said he just dosent have the time - so Im taking jazz theory lessons with a guitar player - and having to translate it myself. And I watch videos like yours - even though my main chromatic is power bender - certain things still apply - I just have to use my ears.
I’ve been playing harmonica for over 40 years and I have one melody maker in E(2nd) and I can’t make it sound good at all. This was great to watch. Thanks so much 😎👍
I have a DaBell Noble in E major standard Richter tuning, and two Stories in G major and C major (both Melody Makers). I like the MM tuning and the DaBell harps, in general. And since you mentioned Country Tuning, I have four Harmo Polar harps in what they call Super Country Tuning (in B flat, C, D and A major). I think this Super Country Tuning has not only hole 5 draw tuned up a half step, but also hole 9 draw is tuned up a half step (I think). An interesting tuning scheme. I love the Country tunings, and the Harmo Polar harps are pretty decent, too. I got them from Amazon for around $40 - $45. Rockin' Ron's doesn't carry them.
Oh Super Country Tuning! Maybe that answers my question whether that same note is raised an octave up in country tuning. I guess it's not unless you get that super tuning version. Interesting.
Obvious you are a skilled player. Thanks for the teaching, and Gods Blessings on you and your family as we continue towards an ever increasing evil world. My harmonica is my (voice) i use to play praises to Jesus. Xx
That's interesting. It would be a lydian scale unless you bent that note down. But the other altered note would be handy to have in the first octave. The "A" note on a C harp. I think 3rd position would be nice on a MM tuning. Or did I already mention that in the video?
@@ross-harmonica I remember you mentioning that scale. I play mostly folk songs, that is why I ask, if one plays in first position melodies I would assume then it will sound off, unless one needs that note, then it is perfekt 👍🏻 choose melodies after harmonica
A gimmick. I ordered one last week, and I threw it immediately in the bin. It messed up the disposition of the harmonica notes in the brain. There othe harmonicas for paying clean melodies that don't need bending hole three to get an A.
@denisgoisot9601 I My brain is perfectly calm, and the melody maker that I bought three weeks ago is in the dustin because it was useless to me..i wanted a diatonic that plays like a chromatic so I bought a three octaves solo tuning diatonic Hohner 364 and a few session steel solo tuning orchestra Seydel that are perfect for playing melodies. Beautiful instruments.
