What's the difference between a moment and shear connection? In this tutorial I explain the difference between the two main steel bolted connection types, the moment connection, and the shear connection (also called the simple or pinned connection).

Thank you very much. Great video. Can you maybe explain too a connection between a truss and a column? Kind regards

In the case of a shear connection, when a gusset plate is provided below the beam for bracing, will that gusset plate act like a haunch for the beam?

Hi Robin, thanks for the video. So if I was to add a second row of bolts to the shear connection, would it become a moment resisting connection as the two rows of bolts would resist moment about the centroid of the bolt pattern? Thanks.

@3:57 Is the lever arm taken in between the first and bottom row of bolts or first row of bolts and bottom of haunch?

Moment connection not as clear as shear one though, should have illustrated moment connection as end connection too

Shear connection clearer than moment connection.

Do the bolts not provide a force couple to react against a moment? Or is this just so limited that it is considered a shear connection?
@RobindeJongh
@RobindeJongh Год назад
Correct. And the bolts are in a hole that is bigger than the bolt, so there is "play" in the connection.
