3:50 that pushback on pedal is called "reactive force pedal" prevents you giving too much throttle and ramming the car in front or making sudden accelerations it works in comfort modes only sports will disable it

The reason that comfort steering feels more loose/light, is because it is supposed to be easier to live with and requires less work to turn the car. Sport steering is more weighted because it is supposed to be more precise. It is called variable steering.

The wheel is more resistant in sports mode because if it’s easy to slide you can flip off the road or something because you’re probably going to go fast judging by you’re in sports mode

I had a chance to drive a Tesla for the first time recently, and the first thing I noticed was how much force it took to turn the steering wheel. I guess I'm used to a very loose steering wheel, so feeling it so tight was really odd to me. I guess comfort steering mode is for people like me who are used to more fluid steering wheels.

The steering modes are basically supposed to change the feel of the wheel, sports mode being the most heavy and feeling the bumps through the wheel, and comfort mode is light and filters out all the bumps in the road and doesn't let it get throught the wheel.

Surely in 'Chill', the power steering just gets EXTRA, so it takes less effort than normal to steer. If you removed PS completely, you'd have to have biceps the size of Terry Crews to turn and there's nothing Chill about that.

silly question maybe, but does the tesla steer completely electrical? or is there a mechanical axel that runs to the wheels from the steering wheel? if the latter, how does the software affect it?

Steering modes change the resistance/feeling of the steering wheel, not the steering angles/ratios

Steering: -comfortmode makes it easier to turn the wheel when driving in the city, parking and so on. Less resitiance. -standard is a bit more resistant and works for everyday driving anywherw. -sportsmode is for fast driving, for example track driving og fast driving on the motorway. More resitiance so u dont fap around in the lanes

hey jack you know the video you did about those guys driving down a highway with no driver i found how they manage to make the car drive with no driver so what they did the driver climbed under the seatbelt then they hoped in the backseat so thats how they manage to get the car to drive without a driver

Steering modes just change how much power steering you have. Comfort is maximum power steering to make it easier to turn the wheel but gives less feedback from the road. Sport mode gives minimum power steering with more feedback from the road giving the feeling of better control. Chill acceleration limits acceleration and averages quick throttle movements to avoid jerky accelerations.

If the steering modes is anything like my vehicle then when accelerating through turns in sport mode the wheel will have far more resistance to stay in the turn unlike comfort mode.

I got a 2015 Corolla ascent sport hatch and it's very noticeable between sports and normal, much better accelerator response and stiffer suspension, revs harder. Much more responsive overall.

Chill mode feels ways to slow and I never like driving with it on. But I use comfort steering which I actually like much more than the other steering options.

I wonder if comfort steering is designed for older folks or people with mobility troubles? Maybe comfort is supposed takes less motion and force to get a lot of turning. Meanwhile sport is designed for people who enjoy cranking the wheel a bit and feeling the car resist. I have an older car and the steering is very stiff, whenever I get to drive a friends car the responsive steering feels a bit wild because I'm used to cranking the car, so naturally I feel unsafe when the car turns faster than I expected. But if you have mobility issue or don't want to use much force to drive, comfort mode would be ideal. Idk that's just my theory

My grandma's arms are a bit shaky and her car has stiff steering, so it takes a her lot of effort to make a simple turn. Comfort mode would make a lot of sense for a driver like her

Obvs jack has no idea what the different steering mode is doing, chill makes it easier to turn the wheel so if your driving in the city and car parks etc doing lots of tight turns it's easier on your arms, but results in less feel for those sweeping bends on A roads

I thought the acceleration modes in the (long range) Model 3 were called Chill and Standard? Or does it change Standard to Sport when you buy the acceleration upgrade? (If so, I'm surprised they didn't add that on as an extra mode and keep Standard there in case you want to switch back to that sometimes, especially as I think the Model S has 3 acceleration modes anyway)
