Have you heard of Scopebox? It's MUCH better than those low-res monitors. With a Sonnet Echo Express and Decklink 8K. Best combo ever.

Great video! I personally tend to prefer using an old version of scopebox on my laptop when there's nothing else. Blackmagic scopes are fine but there are not enough custom settings for me. Of course the best is to have a Tektronix scope which I sometimes get in OB trucks. But hey a scope is a scope, it's a fantastic tool especially when your monitor is not well calibrated. It can help you to set your skin tones properly. Thanks guys!

14:20 - I think RGB Parade in conjunction with Grey Scale Charts is very useful for Camera Matching! RCPs have Dials for RGB as well. After Matching I switch to YCbCr (or YUV in Consumer World) for shading 😉

RGB and YCrCb are both useful. RGB for camera color matching and YCrCb to make sure that the signal isn't being clipped there either. As they represent different things and both are involved in the creation of a video signal, it's important to make sure that both are within proper ranges. A valid color in RGB might not be valid in YCrCb and vice versa. The amount of overlap between the two where a particular color can be represented in both is surprisingly small, especially in the shadows and highlights where the end-to-end transfer function collapses pretty significantly. I'll be making a video about the differences between the two at some point.

@@djp_video Thanks for your reply! I´m looking forward for that Video! It would be great if you could include the ScopeBox Software Scopes in that Video as well as they have a CIE Plot (and more functions) the BMD Scopes don´t have. (Theres a Trial Version as well 😉)

Hey Dough, I have a question for the smartscope duo 4k. Is there any way to downsize the output for an external monitor? In my setup I've set my Atem 6th auxiliar output as the output for the Camera Control. I go inside the smartscope duo 4k and, using the blackmagic smartscope software, I've set what to see in each of the 2 monitor. My camera is recording in 4k, and I've an external monitor which only reads 1080. So, I'd like to use the remaining output of my smartscope duo 4k to send the camera signal to the 1080p external monitor. Is there anyway to set this specific output from 4k to 1080p? I've not found any voice about it in the blackmagic smartscope software, but maybe there is another way (may be using atem software control i guess...). Could you please help me? I hope I've been clear. Thank you!

The SmartScope itself doesn’t do any processing. If you were to add a BMD SDI-to-HDMI 6G Mini Converter between the SmartScope and your external monitor it will downconvert for you.

Most of the time it's up to the client we're working with. If you want to lock an event down, the best I've found is Vimeo.

@@djp_video I am currently using Vimeo and love using it for events that don't need tickets but their paywall features are on a different OTT plan which is much more expensive. Have you ever tried Dacast? I have been looking into Dacast because it seems to be more affordable for paywall features.

Regarding the discussion on color blindness; If you are color blind, I’d imagine the color scopes are much more important that to people with perfect color sight. Because the scope can visualize what your eyes cannot see.
