Mike, you probably remember the New Holland round balers came from the factory sitting on blocks on the truck bed with the wheels stacked beside it. To unload the baler, you grabbed a jack and raised the baler and put on the lug studs or nuts. Typically you were out in the unloading dock with no power tools available so the fasteners just got snugged up with a promise to tighten them later. I was pulling a brand new baler from another dealer down south and about 4-5 miles from his parking lot, at about 45 MPH, I was passed by a baler tire that rolled 200 yards on up the divided highway, crossed the other lanes, and climbed the other road bank, luckily missing any vehicles. After that, we started checking all the lug bolts/nuts before getting on the road.

I used to work for New Holland decades ago. Pre delivery on any new piece of equipment was to re torque every bolt and lube every zerk. Was always amazed at how much everything would loosen up during shipping and how many bearings were installed and shipped dry.

Hey Mike, hope you are well friend. I dont know if you play or have interest in any guitars with a Floyd Rose tremelo system, but I just bought a new Ibanez Japanese made Genesis RG550 and its an incredible guitar. You can buy them under $1,000. it's a great deal on a Japanese made rock machine. Hope you are jammin and having a great time doing it. I am waiting for some fall temps to start using my new tractor to it's potential. I did manage to get out in the woods and get bit on the hand by a copperhead cutting trees at ground level lol Thankfully my glove saved me, the fangs went in the glove and it dumped most of the venom between the glove and my hand and only a little got in my hand. Rock on brother.

I’m listening on my headphones without audio, but based on your tone of voice alone I immediately like, “lug stud.”😂 I guess I’ve learned a thing or two watching your channel over the years, Mike!

I immediately checked my 5 year / 1000 hr. tractor and loader and found potential problems with loose mounting bolts. Thanks for the reminder , I appreciate your channel.

Another good video Mike!! I drove a tractor trailer for 38 year's I've definitely saw bunches of those have had to change a lot of tires in my younger year's lol that's definitely a dangerous situation. I saw a car that got hit head on by a truck tire n wheel killed the lady instantly went completely through the van from the windshield out back. I just got a new kioti ck3520se tractor from s& h farm supply they have blue paint marks on the nuts n bolts all around the tractor the ones that wasn't marked I torqued them and marked them. I lost 3 bolts on front wheel of a tractor several year's ago that caused my to watch them closely. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun

The longer the extension on a torque wrench is the less accurate it will be. Torque wrenchs are set up with no extension to be accurate. Extensions will be less of a setting than set for.

When I looked at it and thought less than a minute, told the wife it is a lug stud with nut on it off a hub. When you said it at the end she called me smart 😀

I am lucky, my dealer torqued bolts before delivery and marked them with paint pens. Easy to see if a bolt moves.

I drove school bus for a few years so I could keep a sharp eye on my son. All our school buses are kept tight & right in regards to road safety. Nowadays my son is driving a logging truck while putting himself through college and the stories he comes home with daily about mechanical failures are terrifying! Busted wheel studs, cracks in the frame through patches of cracks in the frame, failure or near failures of every description.

Good info. My neighbor years ago broke a couple loader bolts because he didn't check his. I will be making a walk-around inspection. Thx.

You mean the lugs are important!?! Reminds me of when my wife got new tires and Les Schwab only put 3 of 5 lugs back on her car... The manager tried claiming that it was ok, wheels are designed to be ran like that...

after I check the nuts or bolts I use a white paint pen to mark the position, makes checking much faster and no need for a torx wrench.

In a plant I worked at they had a contractor installing ultrasonic bonding equipment. He was going over the PM procedures and told us that his employer required him to have his torque wrench calibrated annually. He said he buys a new one every year because it's less hassle than sending one out for calibration. 😂

I didn't have anything like that happen but I had bought a new truck and as I was driving home with the window down I could hear something weird. I got home and looked under the truck and what I found was interesting. It was the chains from the car carrier hanging from the frame. That tells me that the dealership doesn't really check over a new vehicle when they come in. My old neighbor in Illinois had a john Deere, I called the Johnny popper. I was watching him going across his pasture when all of a sudden the right back wheel fell off. So I walked over to see close up and apparently the wheel had been broken and he had large washers on the bolts where the wheel had a crack all the way around it. I said that, that was very dangerous and he said maybe he could weld it and I said maybe you should change it out for a better one, if he could find one since it was an old tractor. I don't think he ever fixed it. He did have another tractor to use.

That is a metric hub piloted stud and nut And are driven into the hub from the back side and the way that one is sheared off they will be putting a new hub on the truck or trailer it came off of

Probably be putting rims on it as well. Especially if they're aluminum.

Too many dealers have inexperienced or none licence people working in the shop . One licensed mechanic in the shop having other people work under his licence . Recipe for disaster . I stopped in once at a dealer on purchase of a new tractor for my self too see how they where coming along getting my tractor with loader ready . The mechanic was putting removable locktite on the loader bolts etc . Axle fluid inspection also . 👍

Either they caught it by now or they lost a set of duals. I had that happen to my truck already and I had just had that set of wheels off and had torqued them with a torque wrench so there must have been rust between something. A tip for catching loose bolts is look for rust streaks coming from bolts. If there is a streak the bolt is loose

After one second of looking at the close up, I'm going to conclude that's the lug stud from a semi truck with a hub-pilot lug nut Haven't watched whole video, I'm go see if I'm right 😂 Edit: saw how far that lug nut is on that stud and when he said "torque to 450-500 foot pounds" that told me everything I need to know 🤣🤣🤣

Kubota is famous for having low gear oil in the front axle
@johnhelbig7110
@johnhelbig7110 Месяц назад
At some dealerships maybe. A lot of the smaller Kubota tractors come in on a skid with the front axle not installed and no oil in it. After the axle is bolted back on, the tech adds the correct level of oil to the axle and rolls it out the door. But the oil has not yet settled down through the bearings into the lower hubs. Same thing happens with rotary cutter gearboxes. Our dealership always put the initial oil fill in; then when the unit was sold, it came back into the shop and all oil levels were checked again and topped off before the tractor was delivered. I’m guessing most dealerships don’t think to do this.
