I’d give him 50 for 1 year, but make it clear 1) superstar caliber year if you want 50 next year 2) salary WILL decrease next year if you aren’t playing at a superstar level 3) a superstar season guarantees another 50 for the next year. They’ll have to discuss on their own what defines a superstar season. Mainly crushing it in the playoffs should be the priority
Last year nuggets were 48 win team (pace) without Jamal and 62 win team with Jamal (pace in their 59 games with him). They’ve won 8 playoff series the last 6 yrs with Jamal healthy in 19/20/23 including WCF & title b2b yrs over 39 games vs 2 series in 21/22/24 when he’s not healthy. If you can’t see Jamal’s value to the team that’s a you problem.

Although I also believe that Jokic would never throw a teammate under the bus, he will let it be known if he is not happy with his teammates efforts and their results. Russell could very well outplay Jamal if Jamal doesn't come into this season with a better attitude.
Look at Embiid PO numbers, when he can't take days off to be fresher than the opposition, when he can't pick the opposition to be the worst teams in the league, when he can't avoid road games...suddenly he shoots under 50% as a center, truly historic numbers :D :D :D I mean anybody who gets conned by this, should not take calls from unknown numbers, because they might convince him that his windows has a virus
The Nuggets have zero choice but to re-sign Jamal to the max contract and hope he gets better. They can't replace him, so there's no point in talking about how disappointing he is. He's been up and down. Last year he was injured in the playoffs and played like crap. Saying he needs to play better, is pointless. Jamal is just never going to be an all-NBA player no matter what people expect. It's frustrating but there's no point in complaining because it's not going to change.
If he’s not gonna be an All-Star player then they have a choice to not pay him a max contract. There are other players they can go after and spend that kind of money to make themselves better personally I don’t know who is gonna pay more than $30 million for Murrayhis history of injuries and limitations as a ball handler.
@@MJ-uf9tl I agree. I would, at best, relegate Murray to the bench and save him for the specific moments during the season and the playoffs, and at worst, dump him completely. He cannot be part of the regular season calculation and have the game built with him as one of the main components. And as a result, he should not be consuming as much of the pay budget as he is.
We have to pray to somehow avoid Wolves and Thunder in playoffs if we want to advance with Murray.Ant/Daniels/Walker or Caruso/Dort will be too much for him at this point of his career
He was hurt guys, if he was healthy he would’ve cooked them. I don’t understand how people how turning on Jamal. Even with our second best player was hurt we still took Minnesota to seven games and Jamal cooked the first half, he just lost steam cause of his injury. He literally couldn’t explode off of that leg.

@@ant_turnt Do you see a pattern here? I am not turning against Jamal at all! But we all need to be honest with ourselves about his worth and value that he adds or takes from the team. And I will certainly argue that he is way overvalued at this point in his career. He hasn't been the same after the leg injury. And he has a diva attitude and thinks he is the man, when he is not. He has grown very arrogant and selfish, in my opinion. And he needs to be the opposite of that and get back to work.
If you start calibrating players based on eras then that opens a whole bunch of variables that may require adjustment e.g. role of the player, team strategy, quality of teammates, etc.

THIS. And the pattern of his "scheduled off days" against good teams on the road has been going on for longer than just last season too. So you get a constantly injured dude who also cherry picks opponents so he can get his all important numbers up.
Joel's peak can't be measured because he's not playing enough. His per game performance would put him in the conversations that swipa says, but he's never done it for a full season and certainly not in the playoffs so there's no evidence that he can sustain it. Whereas a player like David Robinson sustained it for a decade. Who knows how good David Robinson would be if he took off 30 games a season
Jamal helped Nuggets win the chip. He returned from ACL. It takes time to recover. He will be fine. Support our brother. Don't bash Jamal. Lift him up.

Due to the lack of complete information, I wrote about the salary of Jamal, that the contract of 50+ million is too big. In fact, when all taxes and fees are deducted, the manager's percentage... of 31 million, Jamal receives only 13 million, which is very little compared to what is written about earnings. Why are you making excuses for Jamal? He is not worth the money he is getting paid. MPJ is not worth the money either! It is a HUGE mistake for the Nuggets if they give him all that money in a new max contract.
Ok so lets imagine the Nugs don't give them those contracts and Murray and MPJ go somewhere else where they will get those contracts. In that case the Nugs probably don't have a title without MPJ so you are saying you'd rather save the money than have a ring? Who are you getting to replace them? How much are you paying them? What is with all these people? Jamal was the 7th pick of the 2016 draft. He was the highest draft pick the Nuggets will have in the Jokic era. They will never have another high draft pick to draft a replacement and teams are simply not trading away #2 players on a championship team and there isn't time with Jokic turning 30 this season to wait! They can't trade for anyone better or even as good; despite all Jamal's flaws. They only have 1 tradedable draft pick from the 2031 draft even if someone good enough were available, which they aren't. They are going to have to suck it up and hope he returns to the form he had. As for not paying him a max contract, that's idiotic. They have to keep him hence they have to pay him. Either they pay him or they have to get rid of him, with no chance of finding a suitable replacement PG. This is the NBA. He's the 2nd best player on this team and the best they can get. Too bad if fans don't like it or think he's earned it. There's no time for "when somebody comes along!" There's no time for anything. Jamal is Jokic's running mate for good or ill. David Robinson was never an elite scorer for his career. He was known for his Defense above all and his athleticism and court running ability. I’d consider him a better post scorer than Embiid because he made his living down there but comparing big men despite the era or roles Embiid is still a better shooter and scorer than Robinson any day of the week! You’ll know Denver is screwed if Murray tries to hold them up for a max contract. Their team is already hamstrung with Gordon and porters excessive contracts and if they want to win these guys are going to have to start taking a little less money to play where they can be successful. how is Gordon's contract excessive? He's our 2nd best player (in reality because he has heart, he defends, he covers more positions and he actually consistently shows up) and he's not even on $23 million a year.

I love Gordon as a player but when you are already overpaying for Porter and overpaying for Murray, a $23 million power forward is giving you less than 10 points less than 10 rebounds a game is a luxury you can’t afford. If it was me I would dump Porter ass and replace him with a more athletic slasher and bring a point guard or just let Westbrook start at point guard and put Murray at shooting guard. But Murray is hurting the team because he can be trapped as a point guard and he constantly is hurt. You add Porter and his cold streaks where he’s utterly useless because he brings nothing else to the team and now you’re leaning on Gordon to somehow score enough to keep you in the game and as you saw last April, that’s not gonna work out for you. At least if they had a decent power forward coming off the bench who could score a little they would have more options but the team is just hamstrung by a bunch of people who have one job on the team so now without KCP they’re going to really struggle .
@@SDesWriter Gordon averaged 13.9 points per game on a higher ts% and 2 assists per game more than MPJ last season. These stats only increased in the playoffs. I don't know where you get your idea that Aaron scores less than 10?? Gordon scored more than 40% at the three point line in the playoffs last season with an ts% of 66% ! Aaron Gordon is underpaid my man. For as many minutes as KCP played he gave us abysmal all round production. He's mainly trading off a reputation as a perimeter defender (who sucked at defending Ant) and as a 3 point shooter (who rarely scores 3 pointers). With more minutes CB will absolutely outshine KCP (which he did in the playoffs when given a little chance). We are better off without KCP. Nobody seriously thinks KCP is a shooting threat (and he's only going to get worse with age) so spacing is a non factor
Gordon is consistently solid with his production and given his current contract, it's solid. MPJ is really overpaid and if Jamal continues his woes then yeah he is also going to the same tier as MPJ.

It’s like they’ve lost the ability to say no because they’re afraid somebody else is gonna say yes but who else is going to give him more than 30 million a year? DeRozan had to run around hat in hand until Sacramento gave him less than he was asking for and the guy has been one of the most consistent 25 PPG players in the league for at least five or six years. Murray has been great in the clutch when he’s healthy but you just can’t throw buckets of money at someone with those limitations. They need a real point guard to control the flow of the game against good defensive teams and I don’t know if he’s good enough to play shooting guard at his size.
