In this video I cover one of the best underground GMod ARGs I've ever seen, @thesurvivorofall1890. Support Richter Overtime on Patreon: / richterovertime Follow Richter Overtime on Twitter: / richterovertime
To be honest, almost every single “ARG” we’ve been seeing more follow the idea of a web series, as there is like, barely any interaction with the audience or any real “game” elements
@@aethernaut736 yeah, it's pretty sad, but this isn't the first time a niche word became a blanket term for anything similar to the niche (look at analog horror for example)
yeah they most likely used the Word as clickbait, most of them even delete comments that weren't going with the "its an actual creepy story" thing or were in general messing with it
I am so glad this guy has changed so much from gaming grandpa, the quality of this ARG and the originality is something more ARGs need to have. Also the fact that its actually more of an ARG then other ones through the fact that he actually talks to the viewers really shocked me, I'm so glad we finally got another good ARG.
Yeah, the term ARG has been thrown around a lot lately. Most of the time something gets called sn "ARG" nowadays, it's just horror (usually analog, too). Actual ARGs have interaction. They're called Alternate Reality Games for a reason, not Alternate Reality Stories.
@@FakeFlemishOfficer Yeah. But when trying to look up in RU-vid, there have been multiple people that have tried to do it. It seemingly got to the point where it seemed to be an inside joke to make a "War of the Servers 2 trailer" video where it's just nonsense in Gmod.
@@Guymanbot97 I read that there was four groups that had made trailers for it and one of them did make it past the trailer which was endorsed by Robert Stoneman.
I translated the Morse code and this is what it says: "WARNING! WARNING! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK. NEED BACKUP. NEED BACKUP. WE ARE IN THE CITY AND THEY HAVE ATTACKED. ONLY 4 OF US! HELP! HELP!" The KW and RK parts in the original translation are mistakes made because the code for the exclamation mark [ - . - . - - ] sounds the same as the code for K and W put together [ - . - . - - ] but without the gap in the middle. Same goes for the period [ . - . - . - ] turning into R and K put together [ . - . - . - ] and "4 of us" turning into "sefus."
I've been starving for this. Gmod ARGs have become so bland as of late, and any newcomers trying to make their own ARGs just follow behind BadwaterVideos and GunslingerPro. I'm glad someone is finally stepping in to innovate a little bit.
@@zherean42069 Which goes to show that there is some *serious* wasted potential in the ARG field. Unfortunately, originality does not thrive on the internet, at least not without recognition.
I was trying to make an arg about a guy discovering and reuploading his old videos before noticing he hid codes and messages in them and discovering repressed memories of being abused by his alcoholic dad but I felt like it would be insensitive or not a realistic portrayal of people who have suffered abuse
I cannot tell you how happy I was to hear about War of the Servers again. Too many people have never even heard of it, despite its internet culture significance
I recognized it somewhat from one of the old menu images, but never knew what it was until now. I’m so glad I found out, definitely gonna be an amazing watch.
Attention all GMOD ARG watchers, 6 needs your help to defeat the mingebags and save the servers forever! But he can't do it alone, he needs supplies and ingredients for buildings and consumables! And he needs your credit card, and the 3 numbers on the back, and then he can defeat the mingebags, and save gnome chompski!
The Republic of People with California in their names will send in 4 of its 12 person population in support, alongside several large yellow cake uraniums acquired legally through legal means.
@SteveMatheus I Kid you not... when i was 10 i used to calculate every single frame and move the antlions make to try and save Lazlo i really felt bad when i accidently killed Lazlo.
I like this one since it actually adds ARG elements to it.. so far ARG's have been more like little shows rather than an actual Alternate Realty Game we've seen. Adding elements of puzzles for people to solve and decrypt has definitely given this one an original flavor that was quite sought out after in this sphere of GMod/Source.
I like how the person who made the arg or the character 6 is actually communicating with the people and asking for advice kinda like what the sun vanished dose
I've said it once & I'll say it again. Spooky sentient characters X any other game would be really cool. If the characters actually kept their personalities when becoming sentient, then that would be even better.
I don't think 6 has been captured. The visions show someone slowly fade in, and in the awakening video we are seeing through his PoV. You can see the model is different and looks like Breen. Hope to see more of this
Thinking about it, when Richter mentioned the continuity error of the Tool Gun, I thought back to the closing scene for War of the Servers where MC states that everyone updated to GMod 10 after the mingebags left. There were admins (or at least people dressed the same way) who (I think, I'll need to rewatch it) continued researching GMod 9 to continue to build up preventative measures against any possible returns, with an additional bit suggesting that there were still mingebags there and that they were just hiding. Maybe they managed to find a way over to later versions, considering the more modern Toolgun design. Either that or I'm reaching a bit too much, that's also a possibility!
Personally, I'd love for a Fan-made ARG about Portal 1 that uses Gmod somewhat like this one. Just imagine the possibilites of what it could be about: • follows a Scientist, desperately trying to escape • follows a Test-Subject, trying to understand what happened and too... trying to run away from the brutal AI • or follows a rebeling Robot Journey
I created a idea for this portal arg: test subject finds one of ratman's dens and finding out that cake is a lie.... he takes the camera that layed on the floor and goes through door and seeing turret factory then glados saying: go back now! (video ends with glitches) (sorry for bad English)
I think Richter forgot to point out this at 19:07 it kinda looks like to be a rebel (possibly Male_06?) on fire in the white room (I think the stuff floating around in the white room was coming together to construct 06) plus the room that 06 gets put into at the end (witch Richter speculates to be 06 captured by the minges) looks like the same full white room as 06 has been seeing, could it be that 06 was seeing his future? (and possibly seeing him be "burned"?)
I always found the tripod recusion was interesting. The tripods in war or the worlds inspired the striders from hl2, a game that inspired the creation of gmod, and gmod inspired the creation of war of the servers, which had its own version of the tripods from war of the worlds
This eerily reminds me of those Gmod Zombie Apocalypse roleplays, with the piano and the fog. The lurking mystery of, not if you're going to get attacked, but when. I will definitely be checking this out myself.
You unlocked a DEEP memory with War Of The Servers. I remember being like 13yrs old and randomly finding it while trying to find vids on building machines and general G-Mod info
I had put this video in a queue, I didn't initially recognize what was in the thumbnail, but after you mentioning knowing some history of GMod and the thumbnail I went to look at it in the queue list and if this is war of the servers I'm gonna be so excited. War of the Servers is an absolute classic, an absolutely amazing creation considering the time it was made and also my 2nd favorite adaptation of war of the worlds, only being beat out by the thing it is adapting, Jeff Wayne's Musical version of War of the Worlds. I actually had only discovered War of the Servers like nearly a decade after it came out since I am much younger and didn't really experience pre-gmod 13 I have spent an enormous amount of time playing GMod and have spent thousands of hours watching classic GM creators. I think I've watched all of Zuthar's video catalogue at this point in time and his pre-gmod 13 content are still fun to go back to even over a decade later and having watched em multiple times. I really hope I'm right and this series is about War of the Severs because if it is I expect it to be my new favorite of the Gmod ARGs.
This ARG really is interesting! I haven’t seen much of Garry’s Mod before the peak of its popularity back in the early 2010’s, so this has intrigued me to research about Garry’s Mod’s history and to also watch War of the Servers. One thing that stand out to me about this ARG is how it uses audio, especially when music is played in the background of these videos. Their odd distortions make the videos with musical audio, (such as the piano which can be heard in ‘16-??’),much more unsettling and eerie. I also love how energetic Richter sounds in this video. You can tell that he was so happy to make a ARG video which didn’t involve sentient ragdolls.
The fact that the audience/viewers were able to interact with him and even choose an entire storyline for him is actually amazing, this is so damn unique
Slow down the last video and see that at the beginning, there are the words "LOST CONNECTION," then follows up with "PLAY" as well as play button. It later shows numbers that goes in the order 75 90(7?) 9(17?). It has many numbers that could lead to a secret message. What I theorize is happening is that the griefers have created lag machines that make others lose connection with the server. Maybe it is an alternate universe to "The War of the Servers" and not exactly related to it and which is why SurvivorOfAll can reach that area. But to find out, we probably need a code cracker to find this number stuff out.
Wow, finally, an ARG that i actually WANT to partake in, this has some originality and im glad he really took the criticism well with his other series and produced a banger
[0:50] Richter: "I expect this video won't have quite the appeal the other ones do since i can't put any easily recognizable characters in the thumbnail." Me: *double checks the thumbnail* Me: There's a goddamn mingepod that's pretty well visible on the left, you can't get much more recognizable than that.
@@gruntmadness886 I'd recommend watching War of the Server's. It is a cornerstone of Gmod culture and practically kicked started Gmod Machinima as a whole.
Garry's Mod War of the Servers is one very well made film. Considering it is Gmod 9, it is impressive how they managed to make the film. Though we still haven't got a sequel yet, they said they will be doing it... though that's the last we ever heard from them talking about a sequel. Until then, maybe some day we will get it of course
If you really want more, then read The War of the Worlds (which is what War of the Servers is a parody of) or you can watch the 2005 movie and listen to the musical. Granted, it isn’t gmod but it’s close enough, right?
Bro, if more comes out go this, please make more videos on it! I am a HUGE fan of War of the Servers and War of the Worlds in general so it would mean a lot to me if you could acknowledge the two, since they both have sort of fallen into obscurity. Anyway, thanks in advance!
What a blast from the past man, I remember watching war of the servers and loving it, it’s awesome and one of the biggest reasons I ever got gmod. I don’t play much anymore but I played an ungodly amount of it back in 2012-2014. Good times.
I love how the main character interacts with his comment section, makes them seem way more human then other protagonist in ARG's. Also makes me concerned for 6's well being.
i REALLY like this. I haven't seen many ARGs give the players choices on the story itself, nor have I seen them actually give players puzzles. It's amazing, really. This is my new favorite ARG.
here we go some comments: 1. wow, this is made by the creator of gaming gramps? i really disliked that series. this is a huge improvement, real props to the creator for improving so much! 2. i left this comment on another video: *"i'd love a gmod arg where the op doesn't just ignore the strange videos and reacts like a normal person, finding help from the viewers and trying to work out what's happening along with them"* perhaps the person behind this channel got inspired by my comment?... probably not, but the idea of that is cool
Now THIS is an ARG, where the protagonist actually interacts with the viewer, if that commenter said that 6 should go through the short route the series could go on a very different path
I was not expecting such nostalgia watching this video, almost over 10 years ago I watched that “war of the servers” video. now I’m 19 seeing memories from the bottom of whatever pit memories go to, to be forgotten. (Edit: I think I’m gonna go rewatch it war of the servers again.
You can tell I'm a War of The Worlds fanatic when during that "Admin, what's with the fog?" scene, I heard two bass guitar notes before you cut, and knew instantly that they played Horsell Common and The Heat Ray from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of The Worlds. Nice to know they're not just parodying the shit 2005 film version. Also the tripods used look more like a crude kitbashing of the 1900s Alvim Correa designs. Neat!
The "what does this weird machinima I've never heard of that is or almost as old is I am have to do with this ARG" Was surprisingly so close to what I was thinking
I really enjoyed this ARG and your breakdown of it. Man, so many memories associated with Gmod 9, and watching WOTS in the suites of Gmod Tower. The white void/particle stuff reminds me of when you close your eyes while looking at a bright light, or when you look into a bright sky and you can see strange artifacts caused by blood vessels and stuff.
I love the fact that its more like a apocaliptic sad tale not a scary and alive world more like a world that has alredy died but does not accept it own fate Just like six
Dude if you're planning on covering some of the wider phenomena around Gmod ARGs and that sorta stuff you should look into something called Espionage Wars. It's a curious little product of the Gmod culture and definitely worth a look into.
Amazing analysis of this ARG. I haven't seen the "War of the Servers" movie, but after watching this, I think I'll definitely do a little watch party for it with some friends. Keep up the great content!
I normally never look at GMod ARGs but seeing the War of the Servers Tripod in the thumbnail, I really had to see what was going on! P.S: Hey admin what's with the fog? P.P.S: Ah there it is 6:33
Interestin! I binged this series a little while back because it popped up in my feed but I actually didn't know about the relation between this arg and war of the servers. I look forward to seeing if this goes somewhere
This video game me goosebumps when you reminded me of war of the servers; I love that movie, and the fact that it's being brought back here is just amazing. I hope you and the guy continues the story and can bring back the war of the servers into the limelight.
I think this is a direct or spiritual sequel to W,O,T,S, we follow 6 in a desolate and empty world, with so little life left he can barely survive without anything hostile nearby, and when that hostile thing arrives, he is forced to leave but know of possible survivors in the city but, despite taking a safer but longer path, is captured by, possibly, Mingebags who are still around. I also think that the whole Toolgun being there, even though it wasn't created yet, could be explained by it being a prototype, which could also explain why it is seemingly ID locked, you probably wouldn't want a potentially dangerous and powerful prototype to be used against you.
Very excited to see where this one might go! Not the biggest indulger in GMod ARGs, but I have to say this one has caught me hook, line, and sinker. It's very nice to see some more attention shined on War of the Servers - Something I thought more people knew about! The creator of this one really has outdone himself and it's truely wonderful to see his growth from being one of the more forgettable ARG makers, to someone who I think will be remembered as a revitalizer of the genre, and/or story of the original 2007 movie.
I found a new TF2 arg. Its quite new and it goes on the same lines as the sentient ragdoll stuff. This one is different though, I'll come back and recommend it whenever they release some more videos.
@@pillgrimm I mean its literally two videos. Both very low quality. And not the ARG low quality, but like just not good quality. But since you want it so bad here you go. ru-vid.com/show-UCpw7BRK3z8qBFZ-kXarBzsw
After just watching War of the Servers, and going back to rewatch this, I think this ARG takes place in an alternate reality where the minges attacked during Summer Vacation, and essentially had a LOT more time to dominate, resulting in the presumed weeks or maybe months that this ARG occurs within
I do not believe what I am going to tell you all matters, but I noticed the person in TheSurvivorOfAll's videos is wearing blue clothes, while the person in TheSurvivorOfAll's RU-vid channel images is wearing green clothes.
The Minges almost always hide in their Mingepods unless they are exploring, so it isn't really an option. And the Minges don't seem to be able to be affected by the physics gun because almost no one uses it against them.
This is probably my favorite of all of them. It actually tells you a story from a single person point of view instead of "UUUHH CAREFUL WITH DARK ROOM IN GM CONSTRUCT UUUUHHH CAREFUL WITH BADMIN UUUHHH RAGDOLLS ARE ALIVE GASP" overused bs
Sorry for sounding like a nerd here, (and I know this might've been a misunderstanding from the profile picture) but maybe next time when calling the main character Six, you could call him Two or Ted, since the his model in the ARG is Male_02, originally based off of Ted Backman.
I'll point out, during the corrupted camera flashes of The Long Route and Awakening have a split second where you can hear the sound of a pistol being picked up/equipped. Sure, could be glitch effects, but it sounds tone-for-tone just like it.
Honestly, I had this idea for a gmod arg awhile back that's quite similar to this one. However, instead of a War of The World's with gmod characters, it instead was based on the TF2 characters and TF2 custom game Slender Fortress. In my arg, it was basically a Hunger Games-esque series, where TF2 characters must complete a set of tasks while also surviving, hiding, and running away from numerous horrific creatures. There were also some elements of A Quiet Place and The Mist sprinkled in too.
Nice to see War of the servers getting some attention again. Some of my favourite memories from the mid 2000's are of helping out on that machinima. Good times!
this makes me wish a few things: 1. I could animate in Gmod well 2. I could animate in SFM at all 3. I was decent in storytelling 4. I had the confidence to even try ._.
dude let's go I love war of the servers, it's been one of my favourite videos on RU-vid probably since I opened my account (and is also still on my watch later playlist in second position, and possibly the first ever RU-vid video I ever downloaded)
