I used to want to move to NYC or Cali, but something about my midwestern small-medium size city that is just cozy. That, and California housing is skyrocketing price-wise from what I've heard.

Too many movies and TV shows glamorize NY and Cali. New York is an actual state as is California. It's more than just Broadway and Hollywood. Northern California has some of the most beautiful nature you can imagine.

@@kimberlys8422 nothing goes on in those states mainly the midwest not including Chicago (minus the violence) is boring behind the tines no life no major events nothing

@@SilentMovements305 I would take living in midwest small towns over the big cities any day. The air here is clean, there’s lots of beautiful wildlife and scenery, the communities are small and tight-knit, people are generally more chill (big city people tend to be more rude), living expenses are lower, and it is safer here than in big cities, as there’s much less crime in suburban and rural areas than in urban areas. It’s not boring here if you are capable of appreciating the heritage and culture of these places. There’s lots of activities to do here, like hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, fishing, hunting, etc. In big cities, it’s just concrete, and concrete, and more concrete, covered by leftover syringes from druggies, and urine and defecation from homeless people, and constant loud noises. Big cities are cesspools of violent crime. The air is all polluted and nasty. I honestly don’t see the appeal of living in big cities. The flashing lights look cool at night, I guess, but it’s only beautiful from afar. Up close, I can smell the polluted air filled with exhaust and human waste. I have visited NYC and LA a few times, and while there’s a few interesting things to see, I still prefer the simpler, safer, quiet, laid-back life of midwest small towns over the loud city life and constantly living life at 100 mph. As far as major events go, I’m glad all that messed up BS is happening only on TV for me and not in my backyard. Things like 9/11 don’t happen out in flyover country. That’s just me, I guess. We’re just different. To each their own.

I wouldn’t consider Illinois “fly over” because of Chicago and Nevada because Las Vegas. Any state that is coastal and/or doesn’t have a destination city so: Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North and South Dakota, Ohio, Wisconsin, Wyoming

Good stuff. As a Brit I've been fascinated for a while with the geography and economics of the rural US and your video provided great insight.

Glad it helped. For being such a large portion of the US, it doesn't get much exposure. Hopefully it can get a bit more attention in the future.

This is an awesome video dude. It looks like it took you a ton of effort and time to create this. Great job. Very interesting subject matter too. It really made me start to think about why I feel like I suddenly started to see Soy Milk and Tofu all of a sudden in the early 2000's, when before that the only time I heard mention of soy was Soy Sauce for Chinese food. It makes sense that they need something to do with all those soy beans after they grow them to reintroduce Nitrogen into the soil to grow more corn. I feel like it was a marketing ploy by Big Soy. Just wait 'til they introduce SOYlent Green to us. Spoiler: It's not SOY!
@theominouspigeon2253
@theominouspigeon2253 6 лет назад
Hahaha, yeah, that soy sneaks up on you. I didn't mention it in the video but soy is used in a lot of crazy unexpected places too-- Like with corn, you can apparently use it to make plastic too, and you can even make printer ink from soybeans. It's everywhere.
@facerip356
@facerip356 6 лет назад
Woah. I didn't know any of that. Now I feel like I gotta go research and learn about what they use soy to make.

I'm from Florida, but a friend from Sacramento told me how frustrating it is that people think of Cali and they think of LA. They never consider the redwood forests when they're trying to become famous.

The later half about young people leaving isn't entirely true. In Ohio for instance, our population keeps growing. And, after the wal mart effect wore off, our downtown experienced a revitalization and an entire new breed of shops and stores with more staying power.
@theominouspigeon2253
@theominouspigeon2253 6 лет назад
That makes sense. One thing that I'd probably change about the video if I redo it would be to make clearer the distinction between flyover states and rural America in general. There's a lot of overlap between the two ideas, but oftentimes cities in flyover states have more in common with non-flyover cities than they do with the rural areas in their own states.
@jaynyce5923

Ohio is actually losing population. Only Columbus is gaining population. Ohio is actually on pace to be out of the #7 spot of most populous state within the next 10-15 years.
