VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
On 11th of July 2022, the Reserve Bank of India a made very very bold announcement whereby domestic traders could settle their imports and exports with Indian Rupees!! This was a very very big deal because India could trade directly with Russia without depending on the American banks!! So in spite of the rising oil prices, we could buy discounted oil from Russia in Indian Rupees. and as citizens of India, we were delighted to see this because we saw this as a gesture of India bravely standing against the West and a giant leap to take the Indian Ruppe Global!!! But exactly 1 year later, there is something unpleasant that came to our notice!! Turns out this strategy has failed to an extent where Now Indian traders are buying Russian oil not just with dollars and dhiram but even with the Chinese Yuan!! Yes, you heard that right, Indian Oil Corp which is India’s biggest buyer of Russian crude oil, became the first state refiner to pay for some Russian purchases in yuan. and At least two of India’s three private refiners are also paying for Russian imports in yuan.
and as much as it is important to appreciate and celebrate the good moves by India, it is equally important to follow up on them and see if there is a tangible output coming out it!!!

One simple reason, rupee can't buy anything other than in India, and Russia doesn't want to buy thing from India. India also refuse to sell Russia certain things because the fear of US sanctions. Yuan in the other hand, can be used to buy so many thing around the world and is one of the handful of currencies that can be used to pay international debts, like IMF.

China is in a whole different planet than India. India needs to stop obsessing over China and needs to get rid of jealousy of Chinese progress. It would do great justice to India if it learned something from China. China calls the 100 years when its population was drugged with opium by European colonizers as "century of humiliation" and wants to put that behind. Whereas India still considers speaking English, acting like Europeans, bowing down to the western masters, a great achievement. If not from China, hey India and Indians, learn something from Africans and how they are standing up to their colonizers today.

India will find it difficult to compete with China in industrial production, because China has a vast and reliable supply chain. If you are into tech manufacturing in China, the place to set up shop will be in Shenzhen, because just in a single mall, you will find every components required to be sourced to assemble your design. Like wise from heavy industry to light industry and machine work is all available with in quick reach to the inventor. India should concentrate in uplifting its people to middle class, to create a market for her local production, this will be almost 1 billion market. Once that reaches saturation, the world will be open for Indian competition. With a very prosperous India.

They never do any homework to check the GDP and per Capital income. Sad. 😢 Even Bangladash has higher per Capital income than India. India has a lot of work to do and a lot of hard difficult choices to make that will cause more political and economic pains b4 it gets better. When they started by using anti-China rhetorics, demonized Chinese system of govt, blocking foreign investment including China, imposed Indian regulatory compliance to ensure only Indian economic benefits at the expense of foreign investments, then India had created its own economic barrier. TL;DR Lesson: Having an economy just on domestic consumption and services will not be enough; you need to boost manufacturing and exports to make your currency worth having (so that other countries can buy stuff from you). In my opinion, rupee depreciation shouldn't be bad for exports (we shouldn't attach some national pride to the rupee and turn away from controlled depreciation).
@lagrangewei
@lagrangewei 9 месяцев назад
lower rupee doesn't mean export will go up, because alot of the raw material for manufacturing, are imported. people look at China as an exporter, but it import totally dwarf most nations too. the real reason why India cannot export is because it business are not competitive, this is a very complex problem, because alot of business are small family business that cannot grow in scale, like a family of farmer or craftmen. alot of indian policies are design to protect these traditional businesses. the result is Indian business scale very slowly since there is no incentative to consolidate. just look at the car models that are produce in India, they are decade behind the latest design, why? is it because Indian are stupid? no, it because of the way the system is structure to protect businesses that it is a liability to develop state of the art product. and of course Russia isn't going to buy those old cars, no matter how cheap Rupee becomes. that's the problem. and Modi government is not unaware of this reality. they been trying to institute reform since India failure to join RCEP. but the people who's job are threaten will protest so the government can't really push hard without creating the same kind of chaos China experience in the 1980s. China is where it is today because they bite the bullet and pain of reform in the 80s, alot of chinese lost their job then. but for a democracy, if a government tries to force reform that will cost people their livelihood, it will be in trouble. so reform is slow in India not because the government don't understand, but because the people don't want change to their lives. to resettle in a new job, or rebuild your business is difficult, it just not easy and it will be painful.

One of the biggest contributions we can do as a consumer is buy made in India products. That reduces the trade deficit with China primarily while also increasing our gdp, employment, tax etc etc. Initially it will be more expensive because we need to establish economies of scale to compete. For that, demand for domestic products has to go up. Unfortunately, Even the smallest things like a 10inr lighter are made in china and you can't find an Indian made substitute even if you tried. Buy Indian for a better India tomorrow.

It is easier said than done. Indian products are not affordable for many. Every Indian wants to save their hard earned money to the maximum extent possible. Indian government should either regulate the price of the commodities or should either give subsidy if the government really wanted to promote Indian products and for their growth. The Indian government should also invest and spend if they really want to promote Indian brand

That won't happen any time soon. Both SCO and BRICS are heavily divided. We are also moving closer and closer to the West by the day thanks to China. As of right now and near future, it is far more beneficial for us if USD continues being the world's currency. Maybe it would be more useful in future when China's growth slows down significantly as their population ages and ours would be mostly in the working age but right now, we'd be digging our own graves if we go ahead with it.

@@somerandomguy9125you are missing the point. without BRICS curreny, India end up using RMB to pay China, that's the reality. going closer to the West will not change that, it will make it worst. at least with BRICS, you will be using a currency that is 40% influence by China, not 100% influence by China as with the RMB. those are really the only 3 choices India has: USD, RMB, or BRICS. with India force to attempt restriction dictated by US if it use USD, and I don't need to explain why India wouldn't want to use RMB, so BRICS is the best choice. if the west cares about India, India would be invited into G7. Indian need to wake up, the west will never treat India has one of them because Indian interest such as in Iran, Middleeast and Asia are more inline with BRICS than G7. for India to join G7 would require India to abandon it independent policies on Iran and Russia. can it? so think slowly...
@lagrangewei
@lagrangewei 9 месяцев назад
@@sreenathgopinathan5415 people are confusing the India that BRICS currency will be like Euro, it will not. it a payment currency, not a domstic currency. all BRICS countries will continue to use their domestic currencies, but they will set a peg with the BRICS currency and put their currency into BRICS bank in exchange for BRICS money which they will use to pay other countries. and those countries will also put their money in the BRICS banks to trade. so the BRICS bank will have currency of all countries and it will cash them out in the other currency to make payment. the point of the system is to get rid of using USD to exchange. it does not replace national currency of any country. the problem right now is if you trade directly which each other currency, you need a balance of trade or one side will have more currency then they need and so has no reason to accept more of that currency. like the example of Russia having too much Rupee and so refuse to accept any more Rupee. if you have a BRICS currency. Russia will be holding BRICS currency instead and so India can continue to buy using Rupee by selling Rupee to BRICS bank for BRICS note that Russia will accept. so BRICS bank will end up like a "reserve bank" that hold everyone's currency. that's the point.

It very bold and admirable of you to bring out the current downsides of indian rupee and how the lack of exports is worsening the usage of rupee. But it would have been much better if you could elaborate on how such a situation could be tackled and tentative time frame it would take for such changes to take place on a global scale. Providing effective measures to handle such situations and the time frames for improvement of the situation would help us better understand whether indian rupee trading would improve the economic situation in long run. Also, elaborating on what caused the exports to decline would also be quite useful. Thank you for your efforts. Hoping to see more of your analysis.

UNDP reports how they are calculated & what are their metrics is a laughable method of measuring social welfare in thpimes when:- 1) Oil production and distribution is at an all time high 2) Food production is in surplus over the globe 3) Basic economic indicators like production of oil, steel, refinery, steel, cement, natural gas, electricity etc. are in surplus and available at very cheap rates for trade. So many factors which don't clearly indicate the ground realities. Don't just read the reports, read their methodologies for arriving at such ridiculous conclusion. Key problems in India: 1. India loves to impose penalties and fines on foreign investments. 2. The looming threat of corporate takeovers 3. work attitudes of Indians are a big problem. 4. Supply chain not existing 5. Infrastructure needed for efficient deliveries of goods not existing 6. Lack in skilled labor Ease of doing business? India wants to become the next manufacturing hub? Much work needs to be done. None of the above are being addressed because Modi's ambition of becoming a military power out weighs all these problems. Modi is a FOOL. Don’t need to hate, am a Singaporean Chinese here. India has so many talents that’s holding the post of CEO/COO/CFO all over the world, it doesn’t lack in talent, india has smart and wise people. The 2 main problems I see that are holding india back enormously are it’s pride and bureaucracy. Pride makes one irrational when making decision, this is where the Chinese side scores better, they are doers of things, not just bragging day in and out. How does this affects Indian society you might ask? Well, the very simple fact that when one boasted that they are so good but in reality they aren’t. Then the public will be mislead into thinking they have reached the endpoint and falsely believe that no further works need to be done. This is exactly what is happening for the past many decades since india independence and up till present. The second is crazy amount of bureaucracy. India has adopted democracy and all of its ills along with it. Do y’all really think democracy is all good without flaws? Just have a look at the western parliament if that will give you a good glimpse how unproductive it gets the society into. Instead executing good public policies for the collective good for the society and people, each opposing party in parliament are just fighting with one another even if it’s not at the benefit of its people, these are the ills of being a so called “democracy” and of cuz I’m not saying autocratic is good too, both have their pros and cons, yall just need to find a system that fits your country and society, and keep trying, make changes if the situation calls for it. Last but not least is the caste system, I think I don’t have to elaborate on what societal ills this brings to India’s society as a whole. I’m sincerely hoping that the younger generation of Indians will see the real truth, and not be blinded by pride and emotions and make rational and good decisions for india for the future to come. Jai hind 😊

Our country wants Ruppe to go global and to be used as trading currency in trade with other countries... But we see here that India has only 18 countries with which we can trade in Rupee .... It means when we trade with other 160 countries....we need to pay out of our Forex reserves... But import of Russia fron india is way lesser than what Russia export us .... It means when we pay for imports from Russia,,,we pay Russia in Rupee... But due to lack in global acceptance of Rupee it doesn't worth it for Russia to hold ₹140 billion Rupee.... Instead it can convert it into Rubel to strengthen it's own economy... For that... india must buy ₹140-150 billions of items to convert those Billions rupee in Russian bank...

I think its mainly because we don't export items that Russia might need in large quantities. Also, investment of Indian companies in Russia is minimal which leads to accumulation of RS in Russian banks. Unless India starts exporting valuable items (raw or finished) its hard to convince other countries to trade in INR. To add any Indian company is less likely to trade (large volumes) or make new investments in Russia because they can be sanctioned. Problem with Asian and African countries as I see is that we don't have singular common goal/identity/ideology, which makes it easier for European/American anglo-saxon countries to manipulate (Plus they do have upper hand in technology)
