Somewhere an Apple box designer, that carefully crafted the unboxing experience, making sure it's a smooth as possible and delightful and simple, jumped off a building after watching this. I am sure.
I remember getting my new macbook and ceremoniously unwrapping it, carefully undoing all the packaging as if it would fall to pieces with the slightest touch..
Tell me about it. I opened it with the most care in the world. Honestly, scratches on stuff just drive me insane. I stopped caring so much about my laptop as it gradually got some small pinpricks, and I just stopped caring. I know that it will still work with the physical damage, but... It just drives me nuts :D
***** i have this plastic cover thing around my macbook since the beginning i got it (3 years ago). it's not even dirty. but the way casey opened it, was just... casey-style. hopefullly it works, because thats important :D but i can understand if people get mad, because not everybody can pay a macbook..
Jackie Happy I don't think anyone's mad about it, it's Casey's gear he can do what he wants with it, it's just interesting to see the way different people treat different things, but Casey always says his cameras are just tools, so I imagine he feels the same about most of his gear, what are a few scratches if they came about through making awesome stuff?
Hahahaha I love how Casey opened that box. It's just his way of doing it and I laughed my ass of when he held it up like that after almost breaking it.
"I'm here and all my goals and dreams are over there. The only thing between us is a whole bunch of work." I needed to hear that. That's inspirational. Thank you
Absolutely loved your answer to the how is vlogging filmmaking question. The heart of film making is story telling, and storytelling is like oxygen, we can't live without it. And vlogs are powerful devices for narrative and storytelling. Thanks for always raising the bar.

Raymond Nguyen it would be a privilege to have my laptop scratched by Casey (to paraphrase TFIOS again. i started and now i CAN'T STOP) (i blame the final i'm currently studying for everything i type today. i'm bored.)
+asra Yeah, scratching a Mac Book Pro before he'd switched it on, it does break your heart, but its merely a tool for the process of Casey's work...its akin to a pipe bender to a plumber, or a torque wrench to a mechanic...and they don't get precious about those things...they make the money with them! (at times I love to go back and watch an older Vlog from Casey to see his progression as a film maker, and professional box opener)
OutcastAnthem I've been a viewer of Casey's since 2012. I would HIGHLY recommend you go back and watch his earlier films, particularly "Make It Count"
YOU JUST SCRATCHED YOUR NEW COMPUTER. seriously. i can't handle the tension of you opening a thin box containing an expensive piece of technology with a stanley knife.
randomly rewatched this but i just realized how many achievements/awards casey has earned and won. and that one person said to "stop vlogging". casey's a film/storytelling genius. thank you good sir for giving the world daily content. i love your vlogs! much love from guam!
That’s actually really funny! I see a lot of my friends don’t want to take their cameras out or just stash their computers in a backpack because they treat them as a fashion accessory of an “essential piece of life” when at the end they’re really nothing but tools 🤷🏽♂️. I’m a musician so I also see a LOT of my friends treat their guitars as it they were exhibition pieces... screw them! They’re a means to an end, mere tools. Nothing more
I must say, I am finding your motivation extremely contagious, and since I have never had in infinite supply of motivation, I hope you do keep vloging!
"in short, I'm here, all of my dreams and aspirations are here, and the only thing in between these two is a bunch of work. so tackling that work is a way of moving this needle. that's all the motivation I need", love that!
Hasso Sigbjoernson so if you dropped your phone and the screen cracked to hell you wouldn't care? at the end of the day if i pay a lot of money for something i'm going to treat it carefully and with respect.
That move made him a stack of cash, because all the comments in other unboxing videos were "At least you don't unbox like Casey Neistat." and stacks of people ran to these videos to see how he did it. Smart or lucky?
That ending where a few of the Fans were waiting and cheering outside is what a lot of us watching feel like after each Casey Neistat film of "any" kind. Keep it up brother! Aloha!
Thank you for showing people that all the electronics all the "expensive" stuff are just a things and are not anything we should relate to our life. I hope it is understandable what I'm saying as I'm not eng speaker. Too much people connects their lifes with things and too much people looks at things as on some Gods. And that is what destroying our society. Thing are just things. Thanks Casey to showing that.
jollie Park I fully gasped at how the laptop box was being treated, then i almost died how the laptop tipped out of the box with all the other stuff apple puts in the box haha. when i got my mac book pro i was so careful at opening it all
I love your attitude towards possessions and the lean towards practicality over conventional aesthetics. Mainly your reaction to scratching a brand new MacBook with a knife aahaha.
Binge watching your vlogs everyday, and I guess the reason for so many of us doing so is less about your blogging style or techniques, but more about your attitude towards life and what happens to you. You know what you are doing, and you are doing something new, something that may cause outsiders wonder why you become a "you tuber" instead of a "filmmaker". I also like it when you said "camera is just a tool", and I feel like I've been a tool (no pun intended) to my camera. Guess I gotta learn that from you. Keep it up, Casey!
I understand about the motivation. Nothing ticks me off more than hearing someone say, "I can't do that." When have not even tried. It is mind over matter in the most negative way. They set them self up for failure. You will never know how far you can go until you push yourself to go as far as you can. Failure is not falling down, failure is not getting back up.
I love to hate his unboxing method. There's a sort of childish impatience to it that I find infuriating and satisfying at the same time. Casey Neistat- what a magnificent bastard.
@5:03 PREACH! An ignorant bias can exist from a fan perspective and you articulating it this well is such a nice relief of some of those smoke and mirrors. Love your films *High Five*
Tom Nicholson well it's not really damaged, unlike most people that get a macbook *cough* hipsters *cough* he didn't get it for the looks. I doubt he cares about what the back looks like at all, as long as it still works
Tom Nicholson is it damaged if it still does 100% of what he needs it for? Some people put stickers on them, a scratch is essentially the same thing. Doesn't change the product, just the look which I am sure he doesn't care about.
That unboxing was so painful to watch hahahaha! I was so careful unboxing my hard-earned Macbook Pro (my first big investment) that it took several minutes just to get the plastic off because I couldn't get my scissors in it (had to use a cutter, but VERY carefully!). And also I make sure all beverages are at least a foot away, so I cringed when you slammed the box upside down to get the laptop out! But I guess it shows how sturdy this is :))
2 years later and I am back. damn it's crazy to see how many little things have changed. The old desk. old camera set up. old camera. old studio before reno. old beme office. ohhh and you can't forget, the iconic Q&A intro that he doesn't use anymore. Sometimes change it good. For other things, it's good to stay with tradition.
