When I was young, I wanted to have branded clothes so bad. Clothes which have the brand's name on it. The only reason I stopped coveting them was because my mother gave me a slap to reality, saying 'Why do you want to buy such an expensive clothing anyway? Are you a walking, talking advertisement for them?'. Since then, whenever I buy clothes, I remember my mom's words and opt to buy simple colored clothes instead.

This is how rich I want to be. So rich that I start thinking money can't buy you happiness
@keerya4179
@keerya4179 4 года назад
Money can't buy happiness, because it's an abstract concept. "Happiness" is different from people to people. But money can buy you a stable situation where you don't need to worry about getting kicked out of your home. Money can buy you food, so you don't need to stress over being able to afford rice on the last week of the month or not. Money can buy you vacation and relaxing time. Money can buy you mental and physical health care. Money can buy you classes to learn whatever you want. Money can buy you anything you need to achieve happiness. It's just a matter of knowing exactly what you want and how to obtain it. Most people just fail to understand the steps needed to reach their happiness. The rest just can't afford it.
@aishaagain5679
@aishaagain5679 4 года назад
@@keerya4179 yeah that's like the whole point. If I had money I'd get all those things and probably find God and a therapist to finally be happy. Or I won't find happiness but I'll be sad with money which I prefer over being sad without money.

So... My family is comfortable enough to afford to send my brother and I through public University debt free. Not yacht level rich, but richer than most Americans. I understand that, unless I seriously fuck up, I'm unlikely to worry about where my grocery money will come from. When I was in highschool, I understood that money made my life easier, and I thought that because I was relatively affluent, I couldn't be depressed or anxious. A couple of years and a few secret suicide attempts later, I realized that being affluent doesn't protect you from an abusive mom, nor from undiagnosed autism that makes you think you're a lazy moron. I would certainly have tried harder (and probably succeeded) in suicide by now if I'd had to deal with money problems on top of an abusive mom and thinking I was a lazy stupid asshole. Money can't buy you happiness, but all else being equal, it's easier to be affluent and happy than poor and happy.

@@aldenheterodyne2833 mhm I went through everything you went through but I was also sexually assaulted because there was nowhere for my single mum to bring us unless she brought us back to our abusive dad. Besides the racism(I'm very much black), not having a place to sleep, not having running water or sometimes food. I also have no place to take a dump so hear me out when I say for you money might not buy you happiness but I would be much better with money and all those things. Also not being able to talk about these things because I know therapy and all that would cost money so yes for me money can buy happiness. Sorry about what you went through but I'd take it over where I am now.

I live in Hungary. People here aren’t really the most accepting when it comes to Arabic people (the government is incredibly racist, and the propaganda kinda sank into people’s brain). In 2015, when I got into high school, the first day, there was a short, quiet Arabic boy in our class. Everyone was making memes out of him because he was Arabic, dressed like shit, so they thought that he was an illegal migrant. I always hated this attitude so I sat down next to him and started talking. He became one of my best friends throughout the years. It turned out, his family worth a couple *billion* dollars, and half of the family lives in Dubai, the other half lives here. He got a $30000 Cartier for his 18th birthday. Nobody recognized that it was an ultra expensive watch. I was the only one who knew the actual price. Still, he kinda dressed like a middle school nerd. Every time when I asked him why, he told me: “Why the f*ck would I flash out brand names, when only dumb and poor people do it?” I have only bought plain hoodies and T-shirts ever since lol

People who don’t really talk about their wealth usually are very wealthy. I worked at a restaurant where this guy used to go with his wife, mom or brother all the time. He used to be a little intimidating at first, so only my aunt (who was also a server) would serve him. It wasn’t until a couple of days of me serving him that I got to know more of him and his family. He owned a couple of very successful companies in the city, and eventually learnt that he helped with most of the money that helped the owner open the restaurant I worked on. He is an amazing person, he never showed off his wealth, and had amazing respect for everyone who worked really hard. Even though I don’t work there anymore, I hope he is doing well. It was always a pleasure to have convos with him when he went to have lunch there.

When working with the old man, we had to deal with a guy that was filthy rich. Emails my dad, tells him to call on a specific number. Dad disregards it, cause it’s not from any of the companies we deal with. A day or 2 later, old mate emails again, and mentions dad’s company, and another MASSIVE company we deal with. Literally the biggest shipping agency in the world at the time. Dad ends up calling the number, secretary answers, and puts him through to the guy. Old mate says he’s just purchased the Agency, PLUS one of the ports in Sydney, so he’s coming out to check on them, but doesn’t want anyone to know he’s coming. Tells old man to be at the airport, he’ll be on X flight, and to just have a sign with the company name on it. Anyways, day comes, old man is out waiting, when a guy with jeans, tennis shoes and a t shirt comes up and goes “hi X, ready to go?” Old man just goes “uuuuhhh, sorry, who the hell are you?” The bloke goes “I’m so and so, who you’re looking after!” Old man doesn’t believe him until he shows his passport. Dad just laughs and goes “shit, sorry mate, didn’t realise!” He just laughs and says “lemme guess, you were expecting the robes, and several security escorts?” Needless to say, this guy had just purchased the 2 companies for a combined $27 billion or so......

My ex-wife's family was pretty well off but aside from a nice home they didn't really outwardly show it. Nobody in the family worked or had any kind of income though. Her and I lived on our own and were honestly fairly poor. We both worked full-time jobs and went a community college full-time. She never asked for any help from her family and was very frugal. One time I remember we ended up not having enough money to pay all of our bills and she asked her mom if she could borrow a little money until payday. Her mom just wrote her a check for $10,000 like it was nothing, and then asked if that was enough. She honestly didn't even know that we lived on less than $2000 a month. Her mother had never worked, and had no concept of money. She once gave me a bathrobe for Christmas that cost more than my car. I never even had a bathrobe before that. We split up amicably because we'd gotten married too young and had different goals, but I will say she never took advantage of her family wealth. She didn't even accept that check her mom offered, and we ended up selling some stuff at GameStop to pay the bills. She worked her way through college and we lost touch over the years, but I always respected her a lot for making her own way.

I looked and saw a little Asian guy, mid 30s, in crocs, tank top and beach short(I live in a tropical country) . The guy was unloading boxes for the fast food where we're eating in. He was a bit dirty and sweaty. "No idea who is." I said. "He is the owner" he said. "he owns the fast food?" I asked in surprise. "Yes also that. He owns 80% of the foodcourt's fast-foods. " he chuckled. "But what I meant is that he owns the mall, the entire building, he's the landlord. Retailers, stores and franchise are renting the place but he owns it." "Holy crap!". I was flabbergasted. You'd never imagine that the working class looking Asian guy would be a millionnaire. I have to add that his car was a 10-15yo Ford ranger pick-up truck. While it had been well maintained it was obviously old. That day I learned that there are rich people out there who just don't feel the need to display how much they are rich.

The only problem is she would buy gifts for girls she liked and spend all her money on them. Love her tho. ❤️

I had a friend throughout Year 7-9 (6-8th grade) who I was unaware was very rich. I come from a pretty lower than usual middle-class family, so it was pretty unbelievable that he was actually THAT rich. One thing I’ve noticed is that their accents are usually indistinguishable, because they’ve never really had many friends aside from family, so I guess they must’ve just been raised on cartoons and films. He was very friendly, but a bit of a compulsive liar (not in a malicious way, just menial things but he did it so often) and he was quite awkward around people. He invited me to his house one time after his birthday, and i couldn’t believe how huge it was. He had mentioned a few times that his parents were rich, but believe me when I tell you this house was massive. I’m talking about 4 floors and dozens of rooms. He didn’t think much of it, but I had flashbacks of how many times he had came to my small council house and I felt embarrassed and thought about what his parents might have thought of me. I’ve grown pretty distant from him, but when school starts back up I might try to talk to him again.

Me too, but seriously I bought a sterling silver keychain since I am very in love with it, and I thought it was ordinary all scratched up and very much used. But I was so shock it was a real tiffany & co keychain! I have it check and confirm. I wonder how rich is that person not to care on it, I see people buy it in RU-vid not using it and keeping on its original box, inside the anti tarnish pouch and collect dust.

If I was rich, I think I’d still relatively use the same amount of money as an everyday person. If I could just be financially supported comfortably to work on my art for a few years before getting a stable job in the art industry, I would be so happy just to have that chance.

I remember my mom drives an old, cheap car and only wears expensive clothes when it's appropriate. She never flaunts her money and always tells us to work if we want money, but gives us money anyways of we really ask since we rarely do. But man, people do get very shocked when they realize she actually earns a lot from our business and always hung out in cafes in the afternoon (pre-pandemic, we just order coffee beans online and brew it ourselves now). Her rich friends who are part of the richest families in our province are also the same. Very simple looking people who do are quite frugal. The time it really dawned on me how privileged we were was when my mom treated my family and her friends to this expensive resto on her birthday. After that her friends brought us to this newly opened cafe that was very expensive. Told us to pick any dessert we wanted, and of course we picked cheaper ones out of courtesy also cause we were full. I can still remember how a pay check never landed on our table then I was told that the lady who told us to pick anything was actually the owner and was a good friend of my mom's friends. Damn. I'm glad we grew up working hard and living somewhat simple compared to others because we're actually grounded and know what it's really like for most people.

@@randyhusband8542 I think people need a family history to grow up on and responsibility of stewardship in it. Each item builds a story around it and helps us to remember those who came before us. I'm pretty well off. People probably wouldn't know from the car I drive, how I dress, live etc. However the old stereotype about shoes is kind of true. I grew up poorer and hated having shoes that fell to bits or needed replacing too often. I will usually buy the best shoes or boots in a shop and I wear them even when I'm rolling around in shabby clothes.

Recently I just realized how stupidly rich one of my best friend family is. The house that he's currently living in is his sister's old house. It got 1 stupidly large room that he said was a clothes warehouse and 3 average sized room (one of it is where he sleeps, it's a 4mx4m room and the other is for his friends when they come for a sleepover). One day I got curious and enter the so-called "clothes warehouse" and boom, it was a fucking luxury item museum. His rare collection of basketball shoes, his mom's collection of luxury branded bags and watches, his sister's collection of branded clothing. Just from a glance I can tell that the whole collection in the room must've worth at least $500k (I remember seeing at least 7 hermes bags and some other bags that I don't even know the brand) And a little digging told me that his mom is one of the founder of the most successful housewares brand in my country.

It's amazing to see how commonplace luxury brands and wealthy lifestyles have become. Movies from the 1980s usually depicted ultra-weathly individuals driving a Mercedes, shopping at Gucci and lounging in a pool next to a 4,000 sq ft home. That almost seems middle class now.
