What Sewing Machine To Buy For Beginners 

I just want to sew WIGS & sew Clothes. I'm a beginner but, I want a machine that can Do Both!!! I've only made 2 blouses in Home-economics, over 30 years ago. My mom sews by hand. She's made curtains, furniture apolstry, by hand. She's had a Sewing Machine before & made my first Cougarett Uniform, when I was in JR. High. She stayed up all night, making my uniform. I appreciate my 87 yro. Mom. I know you're right in this video, because my Mom said the same thing. Thank You So Much & God Bless you.

Ive just recieved my Mothers machine, Singer, made in Italy 1974. Learning how to use it...going to try make a dress for the wife.

I'm so glad you went into such detail, theres no machine shop close to where I live and as a complete beginner I've asked around in sewing forums and none of them are telling me what I should look for...instead they ask me what i'm looking for....I DONT KNOW, I'M NEW TO THIS. :( Anyway, i'll keep this list in mind and look around online again. My Brother machine from Walmart works great. Easy to thread, easy to change tension, lots of stitches and under $200. Eight big quilts and five years of projects and it works great. Great for beginners, I bought my daughter one to take to college. Tutorials are easy to follow.

I used my old Bernina 117K (made in 1938/39) to make all my own clothes, and all my kids clothes. It still works, but it's heavy, and I'd need a table to install it in, and I'd love to do that, but my lovely daughter found a little used Pfaff. I'm using it, and I'm glad I've got it, but it's hard to get used to. I guess I have a lot of old muscle memory of the more industrial machine. Also, I learned on my mom's industrial machine. I have a lot of those stitches, and am getting used to using some of them, but I don't have the scissors or the stop/start buttons. It's fine, and I'm lucky to have it, and everything I see about new machines, helps me understand it a little better. Thanks for posting this great information.

Excellent information (and, you are entertaining also! ). You provided some information never covered on many other informational vids. The only issue was the visibility of what you were discussing (i.e. "The hook").... the camera did not adequately show what you were talking about. I can figure it out by going thru my own machine, but, it would be nice to be able to see what feature/part/item you are demonstrating. Very good info! Thank you! 🙂

I enjoyed your very informative video... reasons to purchase from a dealer and special features like automatic needle threading, needle up/down, thread cut at end of sewing, speed control AND that push button to begin sewing rather than a foot controller... I just advised my SIL on buying a new machine...she is a beginner. I told her above all...buy from a DEALER! No Amazon or big box purchase under any circumstances for a sewing machine! They are there when you need service, always.

I've just brought a brother machine from Walmart cause there wasn't a store that carried what I wanted. It's important to get the proper settings, stitches ect but if your a beginner and don't know how long you'll be interested in sewing or how often your gonna sew then I don't think it's a good idea to buy a "good" machine that costs couple hundred dollars or more then end up sitting in your closet for the rest of it's life. Hopefully I'm lucky and the model I chose will last me couple years then I can upgrade to better one after graduation😂

I am a beginner and just received a Singer 2277 machine which I ordered and have to get supplies, material, and thread I will need to do the job with. A top of the line machine wasn't what I was looking for since I don't plan to make this a money making business using the machine and just got interested after the COVID-19 pandemic. I already have an older pedal type machine which belonged to my grandmother, but never used it though.

I have an old Brother sewing machine. It’s not plastic :). They don’t have parts for it anymore. They don’t even have records of ever making it, according to Brother lol. The one thing it doesn’t have is a walking foot. I tried a universal one from a sewing machine store and it wouldn’t work. So if I was shopping that’s one feature I’d look for. Thx for your videos 😀

I wish you had a list of the requirements so once can copy it and take it to the store with them. I am in the market for a new machine but not one that will cost me four figures, there has to be machines out there that are good and don’t costa a mint.

yep, I have one with the needle threader but I never use it I cannot put my head on that trick I use a little metal threader work perfect for my eyes. I am a sewer novice still so the singer 3232 I got is for now for me learning proper then when my project progress I will definitely look at better machine

I am thinking of getting a new sewing machine as I would like to make some quilted things, not a king size spread but things. I would like a machine that would not skewer my fabric sandwich and would be comfortable sewing thicker than a piece of cotton fabric. Could you recommend something for me please. I have seen advertising in the local Wal-Mart on their sewing machines and I want one, but want to be careful about which brand I buy and the model as well. If you was in Arkansas and selling selling machines I would want to look at the brands you are selling and see about receiving classes on operating it.

I have ordered a machine from their and I have not gotten it yet. That was May 18 the next day they sent me an email telling me that they didn’t have it and they didn’t know if or when they could send it. I have tried to call and they hang up every time I try to call. Good luck with that company!
