Yeah, SMT and Persona games have always done that. Not a fan of day 1 DLC. The only way I can justify buying this stuff is the fact that the quality of the games is actually increasing rather than declining. Most developers do it for a quick buck and the extra money doesn't show in the final product, but Atlus seems to actually value the extra money and puts work in to make it a fair exchange. Still don't like day 1 DLC though.

@@blkxbr as far as I know Demifiend is already in the files (also as a party member, which we know we can't have even with his DLC) so essentially Atlus is locking some stuff that's already in the files behind a paywall.

@E SMTIV had a ton of DLC like this, even day 1. It's good DLC overall but not my cup of tea as a concept

@@enzoidd I mean who cares? it’s DLC. I wouldn’t care if it didn’t make that much sense story wise , it would just be fun to play as Demi Fiend in a new setting after all these years. They could just do the typical “strange portal messes with the flow of time” like they usually do in JRPGs and Crossovers, and then say this is a Demi Fiend from a different timeline. Like each SMT game has multiple different endings anyway, so different timelines wouldn’t be too much of a stretch.

@@enzoidd Is it all that different than having Raido or Dante on your team? It is just part of the fun of Megaten to be able to use ridiculously strong bosses and abilities yourself. You can literally recruit Satan, Lucifer, & Metatron in just about every game despite them being leaders for their specific factions. In Devil Survivor 1 I can literally use Metatron to defeat YHVH despite Metatron being the leader of YHVH's forces on Earth. Why not just let us use Demi Fiend for the fun of it?

The decision to put DLC came more from Atlus executives than the devs themselves. So just if it's a problem for you, buy the base game but not the DLC. It does not seem to be anything major anyway.

@@walter4180 When looking at the issues present in the world, locked away content in a video game thats already made is really just a "first world problem" issue. Companies are going to do what they do, make money. Might be legit, or could be shady. Vote with your wallet and keep it movin. Lets be honest here, if you really want this to change, you better hope that they dont make a killing of the DLC. If they get that money, no amount of complaining will change them from doing it next time.

I bought all the DLCs. It's love&hate. Mephisto and Cleopatra DLC is garbage. Feels like they didn't even try to write in those DLC. The quests are too short. The only saving grade is Cleopatra is arguably the best support. Mephisto on the other hand... Don't waste cash for him. Definitely not worth it. Demi-fiend DLC is definitely worth it.

@@HollowGolem Well, Idunn is a really good healer but her unique skill "Golden Apple" has a really high MP cost, I think Daisojou's prayer has aproximately half the Mp cost :p, anyway is good to have options.

My first SMT game was SMT 1 on the iphone. It wasn't a remake, it was a port and I loved every moment of it. So I would say it has aged well.

Well, there is an easy mode this time, so you can play easy direct, now, i understand if by bragging right, you play on hard but still buy the dlc, but that does deafeat the purpose.

Yeah, I never cared much for the exp or glory/app points grinding since the games normally have a great level curve. But I can never get enough Macca. I wish I just had the option to give myself unlimited Macca. It would drastically improve the game experience without messing up the difficulty. Because normally I screw up the level curve because of how much I grind for Macca. Just being able to skip that would be wonderful.

Yes, except no. The fact that it took you to a separate map was actually extremely good for one particular thing in SMT 4 - the fact that it would make spawning certain fiends (most notably Chemtrail, but also Trumpeter) much less tedious. But that's about as far as it goes, and the way fiends were spawned in 4 was pretty terrible to begin with.

Money is not really a problem until late game though as the compedium becomes EXTREMELY expensive. Battles pay macca and there are a ton of relics you can sell on the shop.

Good luck! I recommend trying out other games in the series if you like smt v since all of the games I've played (including spinoffs like persona and devil survivor) have been great!

I'm going to get my character up a few levels first since it seems you have to be around lv 30ish to start most of these.

I ended up doing this and then realized pretty quickly that the Mitama DLC's take away much more from the experience than they add. I still don't regret buying the whole thing, but turning those off right away is for sure the best call.

I mean good for you it's your choice but don't you think that paying full price for a game and then they intentionally cut out content that is already included in the game files just so that you pay half the price of the game again is very bad practice and anti consumer? Again it's your money I love this series but Atlus is gettin very greedy here I don't mind paying for a dlc that's extra content like big new area with a new story and multiple new demons but what they're doing here is just locking some demons behind a paywall even the demi feind dlc is terrible all the fiends are usually part of the compendium now they locked them all behind a paywall that's disgusting tbh.

Shiva can also drop enemies' defenses rock bottom in a single turn (no matter if buffed or not) and it's almighty and targets all. I have to agree tho. Getting Artemis early on to lower enemy defenses 2 stages is god-sent for tougher boss fights. When you beat Shiva, there's almost no one else who can beat you except for Demi-fiend tho. No one else hard to try him on.

Cleo is a pretty good support demon with her resistances, Frolic is a double debilitate without the accuracy debuff that also charms, and she's pretty good in the attacking department too, so she's far from useless. If anything, Mephisto is probably the weakest of the bunch, but he's a good beatstick.

@@thelegacyofgaming2928 That's blatantly false, only a small handful of enemies are even immune to more than two status effects, and most male bosses have no resistance towards charm. I was literally just fighting Demifiend and had him charmed alongside Cu Chulainn. It's simply a matter of the chances being far slimmer for bosses than mobs. Point is, as a general rule, if they're male they can probably get hit by charm.

Tbh in Nocturne either Dante or the devil summoner were part of the game depending on the version and you didn't have to pay extra for them plus all the lucifer quests and the fiends so the entire DLC bundle which costs half the price of the full freaking game is pretty disgusting tbh, my advice take it or leave it just buy the game and pretend the dlcs don't exist.

@@alenezi989a3 If you want to be technical, none of those characters and quests are in base Nocturne. If you bought the original game, you have needed to buy the Maniax edition afterwards to get that stuff. (Side note: The Maniax edition was the one that got localized, so people outside of Japan didn't have to double dip.)

@@123christianac because these additions were added later after they made the original game and at that time there were no way to add other than release a new version of the game, what's happening in SMT 5 is they literally cut these parts off and resold them as DLC, the data is in the game the DLC you buy only unlocks them for you, either way its a bad practice to encourage, other games have DLCs but here they just locked out part of the compendium behind a paywall.

@@alenezi989a3 The amount they "cut out" in insignificant. 3 demons and the fiends. You can easily go without the 3 demons. There's literally two hundred demons for you mess around with. In the Fiend's case, it is obvious that the devs wanted them as a DLC quest that ties to Demi-Fiend. Saying "They are in the game's code," doesn't mean much as it doesn't tell you whether they were meant to be playable normally or not. A lot of games have functional assets in their code that you wouldn't access normally.

If you beat him, you get his Essence, which lets you use his signature moves (more specifically, the moves that are actually signature to him in this game: Javelin Rain, Deadly Fury, Gaea Rage and a new skill, Chaotic Will, that halves the enemy team's Press Turn Icons on their next turn and has a chance to Insta-kill). It also comes with Freikugel, but that's not signature in this game. Alternatively, his essence can also be used to make you immune to everything except Almighty.

Games go gold before the content is finished, but you still have staff that need work to do in the interim between gold and release that you don't want to lay off because the playerbase WILL encounter bugs. That's when they do this stuff.

Oh trust me demi fiend will probably be one of the biggest walls you will face in gaming, he is one of the most powerful characters in the megaten universe.

The DLC demons are strong, but not massively overpowered. About the only thing that you could consider overpowered would be the final reward for the Return of the True Demon quest (The Demi-Fiend's Essence, which gives you ludicrously strong skills or immunity to all non-Almighty elements), but that requires you to beat the Demi-Fiend, and *he's arguably harder in this game than he was in DDS (and **_that_** fight is widely considered one of the hardest boss fights in JRPGs, period, mind you)* and BY FAR the hardest boss in the game.

She's a standout design for sure. She'll probably be worth it but I wish the fiends were part of the base game.

Honestly don't buy the dlcs they're just stealing your money at this point, play the game it's great and got alot of demons you don't need those extra one which in all honesty are nothing more than cut content resold back at you even after you paid for the full game

We don't even know what level she's be fusable at, we likely won't be getting these guys till ingame anyway, plus we have to fight them first so they ain't given to us for free like the P5R dlc Persona's

Day 1 paid DLC is evil. Free DLC I don't mind much. The Japanese VO DLC is actually a pretty good idea.

They're all mid-game bosses, so no you can't get them early game (at level 8 the first one dealt me damage equal to 6 times my health bar, and it was a normal attack

There's no obvious points to fight them, and they even appear out of order of how you'd expect their power levels to be on the maps. Levelwise, you can do the challenges at around 30, 60, and 80. Obviously, playing on Normal or Hard might crank those numbers a bit in either direction.

I'm mad about all day 1 DLC. It should have just been limited to the extra Mitama which is like paying to cheat. The extra boss fights that are already on disc and locked out are rediculous and I'm not happy about it, but I'd have no problem if this game was a base $80 instead of $60, because this is years of polish. If buying those DLC means SMTVI is made with the same level of love, this is one series I don't mind having to pay extra for.

@@Codeoftherpg I wouldn't say pay more because $60 was the asking price in the early 2000s era and that was justified because of the price of disc production, they are still asking for that price while using cheaper methods of distribution. It's a business tactic they use to cut corners where they can.

@@melancholyman369 Oh yeah, digital copies should be relatively cheaper. However, the physical distribution and even digital distributions are a minute fraction of a game's production cost. If prices kept in line with when gaming really went mainstream in the 90s, the prices would easily be >$100 each just to match inflation. But the market grew, and a lot more people are available to buy even niche games (SMT has been very Niche and 1&2 weren't even allowed western releases at the time due to Satanic panic bullcrap) so the revenues are much higher even if only a small percentage of the market buys a game. I'd love if every game was just $10, but there really is a wide range that's totally justifiable in 2021. $80 for a game with no on-disc DLC shinnanigans wouldn't be too crazy, but instead we've got options like the "digital collectors edition" which (imo) over shoots and over charges for the "full" edition but I still consider it a trap because it's nothing but a digital license. For my theoretical $80 for a full SMTV, I'm expecting a physical copy - one that retains its value, can be shared, and even resold. A lot of $60 Switch games I've bought used and resold for a net loss of $5 due to shipping because Switch games hold their value immensely. A decade ago even my physical jrpg collection sold for more than I bought it for in the 90s/00s, but publishers don't like that secondhand selling, which is why they push these digital editions as the "best" on big releases. I'll take my physical pre-ordered Steelbook edition over the "digital collector's edition" any day, because in the end, who actually has a collectable with value? SMTV will be one of those games when the world goes up in flames in 2041 will probably be worth more than the $60 it costs now, so that's a good reason why I wouldn't mind this particular game being sold with no stupid day 1 DLC at the added expense. However instead we're given a choice, a $60 incomplete edition for those who don't care or don't want to spend more, or dropping an extra $20ish to get an even better of a very well polished game. In theory, I hate it all, and feel it's leading to a divide in gamers based on wealth, but my biggest disappointment is reserved for games like FIFA and any full price release that ends up costing hundreds of dollars for the idiots sucked into it. At least LoL, which can cost 100s, is F2P and lets you get everything of importance for free just by playing (only cosmetics require real cash, and even then, I got a lot of free skins from winning small tournaments). Tldr the market has become far more flexible than the standard $60 AAA price point that most people see. I'd like to go back to everyone playing the same exact game for the same price than these tiered systems, but some games are at least still worth the extra.
