I only started learning how to play the guitar a little over a month ago & I'm documenting my entire journey on here so watching this was super helpful!
@@guitarmadeez So far so good... very frustrating but apparently I love the challenge haha! Your vids are already super helpful... offer tons of great insight that I'm sure I can use both now & in the future as I (hopefully) progress!
There are very well made guitars, well made, not so well made and there is firewood, but there are no "Beginner Guitars", there are guitars marketed towards beginners and 95% of them are not well made or firewood in disguise. Good advice to stay away from starter packs, also anything sold in a department store or online only. If it's lying flat on a shelf in a roughly triangular shaped cardboard box don't even pick it up to look at it, it's firewood. I'm a semi-retired professional Guitar Tech for over a decade and work on approx 150 guitars a year and see a few firewood and more than a handful of not so well made each year. I too am not a fan of Fender Acoustics just finished a repair on one about an hour ago. If I had the time and equipment I'd make a video focusing more on budget and the type of music they want to play. If you listen to and want to play acoustic rock , country or blues get an acoustic with a solid top and laminate sides no electronics/preamp. You can always add it later or you will most likely want a better guitar anyways by the time you need to plug in. Pick one suited to your physical size if you are taller than avg Dreadnaughts and Jumbos are fine if you are petite a Parlor, OOO, 12 Fret or Auditorium might suit better. If you are a child under 5ft and small hands a Baritone Ukulele tuned to DGBE works great til you grow into something larger and is perfect for travelling too, I have one. Budget $200 minimum for guitar Yamaha, Seagull, Alvarez, Takamine and Ibanez. Setup $50-100, Fret Level $100-200. If electric is your thing your 1st should not be something with a whammy, tremolo, Bigsby or Floyd Rose etc. You want a hard tail to avoid tuning issues until you have enough experience playing in tune, playing out of tune is not enjoyable for you or anyone who can hear you, plus they cost more to have Setup. A solidbody Les Paul, SG, Tel, Strat or Super Strat from Epiphone, Squire or Ibanez is the perfect place to start around $300 add a Boss Katana 50 MkII for $270 and you can enjoy them the rest of your life. But most likely you will "upgrade" but your original rig will be easy to sell if needed. If your budget isn't enough for an amp or parents don't want the noise a semi-hollow body is loud enough for you and quiet enough for them til you move out. Look at Epi ES 339, 335 and Kat line or Ibanez Artcores start at $350 the Epis are more. Remember if you are not sure it is better to save longer and get something made better than to get the cheapest one you can afford right now. The less you spend "cheap stuff" is hard to play, sounds bad and has more resale value if you try to get rid of it as "firewood". When buying new try and negotiate a Setup as a condition for the sale. If not get it done as soon as you can afford to or save up enough to do it when you buy. It makes it easier to play and sound better which makes it easier for you to enjoy and learn quicker. Only buy used if someone you know and trust and is capable of setting up the guitar in question looks it over and gives the OK.
This! You hit the nail right on the head. I think most people don’t realize the importance of the setup. The fact that when you buy it, you have to then pay an additional fee to a shop and maybe not see it for a few days doesn’t sit well with most. But it’s CRUCIAL! I didn’t go too much into it and i wish I was more of a luthier myself but I have so much respect for you and what you do. How’d you learn to work on guitars? I’ve tried and I always end up having to take it in to have someone touch it up, lol! Great advice! Do a video! I’d love to check out your POV on this type of stuff. Thanks for watching buddy! Keep rockin!
Hey man, I found your channel by searching for a tutorial on redemption song. Yours by far is the best!! I’m new to playing guitar, my gf bought me one for my bday which just passed, so I’ve been learning for about a month so far… I know the intro to redemption song but the verse is giving me problems..friends keep telling me to just learn a new song but I’m going to feel incomplete till I learn the whole song lol..Have any tips for me? Thanks man. Love your videos.. 🎸
Hey buddy! That's awesome! I'm glad I can help. Which part are you struggling with? Maybe I can help you. :) The best advice I can give you overall is to stick with it! Learning the guitar is one of the greatest things I've ever done and if it was cake then everyone would do it! Just keep at it, stay consistent with practice and you'll get there. I appreciate the love brother! Keep Rockin'!
@@guitarmadeez Thank you so much for your response! And Absolutely! I honestly think I just need to stay consistent like you mentioned. As of right now my strumming and chord switching just sounds like lots of noise lol..But I find beauty in the struggle. Learning to play Guitar has been super therapeutic for me and I just can’t wait until I learn my first song.. I will definitely upload once I get it. 😁
Hey Stet! Not at all, usually they include it in the price. You just have to look at the Ebay listing. I've bought some great guitars off Ebay. The sellers will also pack it with tons of padding and loosen the strings so it wont be a problem. Cheers bud!
