A tortoise has feet and teeth, and lives in fresh water. A turtle has flippers and a beak, and lives in salt water. I have arms and legs and my own teeth although I'm 77 and live in Coorparoo. I love your videos Rob, and your hat as well!
Aggreed Rob, one creek must be named after you. Thx for the tour silly mistakes of the past such as the Beenleigh Rail station, and also its a limitation how many tracks it can handle the line is so busy and its all funnelled unfortunately I think going by its history if it floods than the Beenleigh rail station might need to be knocked down again:(

Kevin is a nice name for a creek. Bob is too , but many will argue Bob is a koala's name, especially my mates Bob Koala and Goof the wombat. Derek is also a good creek name as long as it doesn't get upset if people call it Derek the drain.
Love @WalkaboutWithRob and don't really mind the blatant advertising for local shops etc. but it is the fact he does it without any apparent financial incentive that really gets me.
Mate in the mid 80's my father started a business at the industrial park out near the brewery. Where the old space ship servo was .We moved into and old house on a property that boarderd the back of the estate off Octal St. It was called the Halfway creek homestead . It was old, had gas lines with mantles sticking out the wall, big enamal gas stove and you could get to it through Ormeau. The creek run through the property and I explored it all the way to the hwy behind the old pelerman gardens nursery. There where some bigger pools which had platypus in them . Your last creek was knowen to us as Townsends. We would climb down the old wooden bridge that crossed the Albert west of the Hwy at the rum distillary, were the rail bridge is now and catch bull sharks. There were a few creeks on the right as you head up stream from the bridge and two of them we knew as Bullock Ck and Hill Ck . These names came from a school mates dad that took us up there in his boat . Might help .
walkaboutwithRob for all 3 creeks has my vote ...as a resident of eagleby it would make my smile every time i cross those creeks which happens alot to know the man who discovered them.

I have ridden on an e-bike the entire length of Nth Stradbroke on the beach from pt. lookout and back and was such a buzz !!
The usual name is just a 'loading ramp', for either cattle or sheep. Most playing fields were low lying areas and these were a farm back in the 60s then was levelled off and part of the river over flow and dams became if I recall correctly land fill, after remediation became playing fields
Trolley Creek System 🤣 There is a lot of history surrounding Eagleby when the legal/illegal ferries went across the Logan and Albert Rivers. Some research into that area is full of stories for viewers 🥰 love the video’s you create 🤗👍🏼
Really enjoyed this. The cattle track under Logan River Road can still be used and have been used relatively recently. There are volumetric type leases that lead up to the cattle enclosures adjoining railway siding.
You are right, cattle ramps. Traditionally the creek by the abattoir would have been called Slaughterhouse Creek or similar. Unfortunately abattoirs were placed near waterways to get rid of their waste.
Another beauty Rob keep ut the good work I just happened to read another comment on doing a doco on the old southport to brisbane train line that would be interesting as I used to play on part of it and the old tunnel at the back of molindiner when I was a boy
Hey Rob, I grew up in Beenleigh in the 70s and 80s. And I remember the reservoir, we used to dare each other to swim in it. I used to live on tweedvail street and remember how Lehman's Hill used to be, and how steep it's incline was and then they closed it off after a truck turned over into someone's front yard..
also featured is a rare weather event in queensland called rain, usually limited to once or twice in any given year. this year however it wont stop happening
Awesome video as per usual Rob. Trip down memory lane. If I may add a couple of things, the cattle yards were built circa 1980 due to Logan River road being raised. That cattle track was the original Holmview road. Holmview road always turned left and went about 100 metres to dead end. Dad's dairy farm was river side of road Mr and Mrs Gadsby house were only 2 places until 1974. Gadsbys house is still there. The Holmview station as such was nothing more than a siding and would stop so dad could load the cream cans in the trains goods van to go to Paul's at South Brisbane. And for us kids to go to and from school in Beenleigh. The creek there is continually fed by spring water somewhere behind Teys. The old townsfolk would in dry times carry kerosene tins on a yoke to get water. The reservoir what is now Zander road was also used for the town's water supply in more modern times. That creek according to my late dad, the indigenous peoples of Beenleigh would put their dead people wrapped in ti-tree bark and tie them up in the trees. Where the netball courts are there used to be a Bora Ring. Courts were built circa 80's, so indigenous heritage is lost. Where the BMX track and football oval is was Bill Hammel's farm, mainly potatos. Thosbournes had a drink factory on George st. Right hand side heading out of town. Keep up the great work

I loved this video as much as and more than you enjoyed making it Rob. Waterways hold so much history. These days I suppose we are far more aware of the importance of clean creeks but I remember as a kid even in Toowong so close to the city, watching mums washing machine water enter the gutter and just under the street and into the creek. So normal. Thank you Clem Jones for the sewage treatment across Brisbane. I digress, I thought of Walkabout Creek too as a name but I reckon the Aboriginal name would be fantastic. In Sydney there are people working on a map which is gathering all findable Aboriginal names from various sources and filling this map in with the first names. A big project but so good. Oh and it would have been a tortoise because it had feet I'm sure for life in a rocky creek. ❤
Some memories from this. I lived in Sunrise St for a couple of years. Soon after I moved in, there was a stench like an open sewer. I was surprised to find it was the Teys Brothers abbatoir, just over the hill. Where the tip is, was a water tower, behind which was a dirt track that led to Waterford Rd, near where Logan Village is now. Doug Larson Park, better known as the duck park, was named after a foreman in Albert Shire Council. He apparently organised all the kids playground stuff that was so popular. Last time I went past, I didn't stop to look, so I wonder if that's all still there? I had been riding for seven hours, with another hour to go, so I was more intent on filling up at PK's, by the lights that used to be a mini roundabout. lol
Doug Larson was a long time employee for Albert Shire Council, as far as I am aware he 'always' worked for council. The Larsons lived along York St, between Kokoda St and Tobruk St. My older brother was and still is best friends since about 2nd grade with Dougs youngest son, Alan Larson. The area where the park named after him and the nearby playing fields was all a swampy former sand mining site. Doug was instrumental in the area being transformed from what it was to what it is now, a great many people sentenced to community service by the courts did their community service at the park/bmx track and Doug was the one who supervised them all.
I feel for the tent people. I'm currently parked on the side of the road, living in it with my puppies while waiting on parts for my vehicle. All my worldly belongings are in the ute and a trailer.

every flood they truck down the brook for massive clean up, pristine now, may-be they need to do a bike track .. many healthy users here..great for mental wellbeing to see nature vs dump
Tyres are in creeks because of $11 disposal fee. Solution: Tyre companies should have a compulsory tyre dumping fee included. Then old tyres can be accepted free of charge by any location.
nice place to camp.. in history of country tens of thousands of years in bush camps, and just a few decades in Mc Mansions, much less housework in a tent.. hope it's safe and peaceful ie no ice or grog .
Love your work Rob. I was taught a creek only has water in it when it rains, and a river has water in it all the time, so if they have water in them they really cannot call them creeks’

Hi from northern Italy 🇮🇹 i left Australia 20 years ago i was saddened to see People living in tents ,i think western countries are living a 1930s type of economic depression, corrupt,politicians ,bad economic management ,15 years of zero interest rates , and corrupt banks ,the middle class has diminished significantly since the mid eighties and nineties, politicians are never penalized for making bad decisions they retire on massive pensions Is ,John Howard,and Paul Keating,shrink government and let tge citizens run the economy like we did when Queensland was a colony and when we federated in 1901,

they ripped outconcrete around stones corner.. co-incidental to me pointing out diff between that and my local.. easy to ask council.. they're planting millions of trees ie green Libs, my local even puts in spikey native bushes for fairy wrens after flood flattened ones on brook bank..and I asked them, plus a few lemon myrtle, which is great cause only source I knew was mainstreet nimbin. but I lobby with a little creation or two especially after I notice works done like local loos in park. I highly recommend it BCC councillors are good people I find.

The original tribal ppl didn’t have names for things as we do in English. The language is a description of what is there or what takes place there. This is a major misconception .

He lives close by on the island in the Aboriginal camps , speaks the language of His mob the Gorenpul, and his family are original bloodline and go back hundreds of years. There are no references on line for this as its information that the ppl tell you directly and that’s how the culture works . But if you understand the meanings of some of the places around Brisbane you’ll see they are a description . For example bin kin ba - turtle there . Nyndurooplily - leaches/ sitting down place. Yungungarri - dugon place (Stradbroke ) Ningy - oysters (bribe island)
