Father's speech about fighting even when you can't win spoke so deeply to me. It was something I've often thought or felt, but never could put into words. Easily my favorite game of the year, and one of the best games of all time, imo.
One of the best video essays on this game for sure, so good! Really thoughtful interpretations and analysis, and you got the developers in it too, hekki grace!
Huge fan of you channel since I've found your video on Citizen Sleeper, saw your posting of this video on 1000XResist and immediately bought it, after finished the game I can only say you did a absolutely amazing job with this video.
Oh man, absolutely loved this game and this was a great tribute and discussion of it. Bell rung, liked and subscribed etc! To anyone who watched without playing first, please try it if you can. The writing throughout is incredible and although major plot points are covered here, there's a lot of small moments and devastating call back lines that really build up the experience. It's also just a gorgeous looking game imo - not so much in terms of detail, more the lighting, framing, use of colour and so on.
Ok so either i made wrong assumptions and correlations or something is going over your head. Jiao had "something" on her skirt. Is was not chewing gum. And it was her brother who did it. And she only told Iris. And Iris told everyone
Thanks for making this. 1000xResist is a very special game with so much to unpack. I'm glad to see some deep dive video essays popping up now. I also appreciated the 13 Sentinels shout out. Both of these games are some of my favorite sci-fi stories, but I think you're right that 1000xResist does a lot more thematically with the constant twists.
9:00 tbh i never found the voice acting "understated" if anything this was first time in any piece of media I actually took a note of voice acting and i was very impressed. each character has such a personality from the moment they open (or i guess don't open in this game XD) their mouth. I wonder if derth of other animations is the thing that made me take a note of these, as there is not much else besides voice to pay attention to in vast majority of the cutscenes
@@MattHorton "bad" in the sense that its not conventionally overacted or dramatically acted? If that's the case, then maybe.. But this was also the first time in a game where I was impressed by how human the characters sounded. The lack of overperforming sucked me in to every word as if it was important and really helped me connect with these characters more than ever.
Hekki, six to one, Matt. It was a real pleasure to look at what other people carried forward with them from that game as being the most impactful. When I am recommending 1000xRESIST to others I warn them, they will be frustrated. I say "Not only the character you play has almost a full understanding of the society they live in and you know nothing about, but also they game will make you make choices you don't wanna make and deny the possibility when you really think you could use a right decision just about then and there." But also I appreciate the writing that really rewarded talking to every NPC with it's delivery of key cues in a blink-and-you-miss-it moments. For me the through the game 180'd on me several times, the line that threw me completely off the rails, was one delivered by Mimi the 50 in one of the last chapters, on the deck. Where she spoke about inseminating Iris's clones. And my brain immediately went OH MY GOD, she got killed because she tried that with IRIS HERSELF despite being told NOT TO. And then the ALLMOTHER... and then.... like the whole world collapsed on me in that one line of dialogue that really was not THAT Important from the bigger picture perspective. How I absolutely loved even the metaphor of shortsightedness running in Iris's genes and Healer obsession with creating BETTER, SEEING eyes later. But only when driggered with the need to protect Watcher. I appreciate so many little elements of this game. And I completely disagree with you on the Keepers perspective. ;)
I'm currently watching through this, but I'm glad to see others took as much of an interest in this game as I did. It was slated to be a "soon(TM)" project for me because when I played through it I was deep in the midst of another project that I'd been working on for the past year. Seeing this game get the attention it deserves makes me much happier, and I'll be sharing this video around after watching through it.
This was a very good video about an amazing game, thank you. I liked the fact you had your own opinion about some characters, that’s what I like to listen to. It also helped me having a better understanding of some parts of the game
of the many, many things i loved about this game, their spin on "darmok and jalad at tanagra" with the alien communication was a great piece of an even greater puzzle
So glad I finally had the time to sit down and watch the video. I don't have much to comment, because we've discussed so much of this in depth on discord (this is Lex, for the record), but I really enjoyed the way you approached the video and divided it up. I generally agree with you on Principal - I say "generally" because to me, it isn't really a question of whether or not she can be or deserves to be forgiven*, so much as whether her legacy should be brought forward when trying to build a new world, and the answer was a resounding "no" for me. (I also feel like the 'red' ending is less hopeful than the 'blue' ending, thanks to little touches like Blue's epitaph describing Blue as a terrorist, which made me feel like Principal was still influencing how history was recorded.) I'm in the same boat as you with Knower, as well; I think there's a really strong argument to be made for both turning her light off and keeping it on, and I almost wish there was a third ending/epilogue based on that decision, because she's one of the most fascinating figures in the game. *(I tend to think of forgiveness as being more about the person doing the forgiving than the person being forgiven - does forgiving a person help you or harm you? I think that can really change depending on the person, and that, if two people come to opposite conclusions about forgiving the same person for causing the same harm, both of those decisions can be correct; some people are set free by forgiving and some are trapped by it, some people can't move forward without forgiveness and some people cannot move forward if they forgive, etc. This goes for Knower, too - I think Kris would be completely valid in never forgiving her, the core sisters would be completely valid for forgiving her, and Watcher and Blue would be equally valid if they never forgave her or if they forgave her for everything, and all of those things can coexist. But that's just me - forgiveness means a lot of different things to different people, and I think the game does an incredible job of demonstrating that without trying to moralize about what forgiveness should mean to anyone.) Also, thanks for the shout-out at the end!
Man, that thing you describe in the beginning about not seeing the whole picture is how I feel all the time about many things I wish I understood. Old problem, already present when metal gear solid 1-3 were released. More and more, I just accept this reality, and thus just let memories and understanding fall away from me.
