You will find the 70 is not the actual height of the tyre in mm but the ratio to the width of the tyre. So in this tyre the height of the tyre is 70% of 215

Tyre load rating have to match the maximum axle load on the Vin plate or you are illegal if stopped and checked and you can't just take maximum gross weight and divide by four as vehicles carry most weight on the rear axle . Check the manufactures vin plate for four weights .

Thanks for the great information. Clearly someone who knows much more than me!! I’ll check the VIN plate to make sure I have no tyre blow outs in the future 😂😂

Hi good vid thanks. I am guessing all that applies to a 2017 Peugeot Boxer? What do you do about a spare. Can it still go underneath or would it need to be door mounted? Thanks

Useful video. I went for 225/75-16 up from the 215/70-15 inch from standard increasing the gearing by 9%. I fitted Falcon Wildpeak AT3 which are snow rated (3 peak snowflake symbol) so comply with alpine regulations, unlike mud and snow tyres which are not recognised in Germany. Rides better, better traction, no negative impact on performance… oh and they look ace!

Didn't know mud and snow tyres were not a thing in Germany. You learn something new everyday!! I don't regret changing vthe tyres, really gives the van a morre rugged, safari look...and filled out the huge gap in the arches!!

@marcusoutdoors4999 was there a need to lift the suspension to fit in the tires or the stock suspension height is enough?

Hi... My Ducato tyre size rating is 16/14. The only All Terrains that are suitable are size 15. My insurance company says need to stick to manufacturer's rating, even though the rating is for commercial tyres. What do you recommend.
@CarlJones14

You missed some important points. You might only do 60mph, but your braking distance will be much longer, especially in the wet. Big heavy van can be difficult to stop on standard spec tyres. If you carry a spare, fair enough, but many ditch the spare as its dead weight, but if you go for anything none spec, you could be waiting around for a very long time. Most EU countries will not fit an individual tyre, they only fit in pairs. This could be a huge problem. The next thing is that a bigger tyre weighs more, is harder on the engine and clutch to turn said tyre. Remember, the vehicle was designed for a 15" wheel, although campervan manufactures like 16". Most big treaded tyres won't actually wear out. They are much more likely to getting past their use by date. I am thinking about ATT's, but common sanse says no. I'm also thinking about getting rid of the spare.

@@ducatomods5462 oh, I didn't mean to come over all negative. I am tempted myself, but I am cautious, so very careful off road. So on that basis, I probably won't fit bigger wheels and AT tyres. But I do get the look. Great video BTW. No need to reply. 👍

Great review would like to add I have just put Yokahma g015 geolander tyres on 225/75 r16 115 fantastic looking tyres with great road handling, road noise no different, ride is very good, but more important to me the tyre loading is the best around they are 10ply tyres along with the 3 peaks winter rating and cheaper than BFG

Remember that the weight changes when cornering. Then one tyre can have more than1000kg and other less than 600kg. At the moment Im running 235 55 19 with load rating of 105 . But I am after 235 65 17 108 all terrain as I had those before last year. And yes I wish I could drop the front a bit to hide the gaps 😜

Just put BFG KO2s on ours. Our mpg has dropped from 29.9 to 27.3 but the ride is 100 times better than the CP rated tyres.

Hi, nice overview, thanks for that I'm currently looking at BFG AT/KO2 tyres for my Movano. A quick question for you: Did you notice any reduction of torque due to the changed transmission ratio with your bigger wheels? Also just a note, I'm not living in the UK so things may be different but my understanding is that your tyre load rating needs to be at least half the load rating of the axle they're on. As well as the tyre's speed rating needs to be at least the vehicles maximum speed (according to the papers) although that may be different for M&S tyres. thanks!
@ducatomods5462
@ducatomods5462 2 года назад
My gut instinct is I have lost a few percent torque, maybe 2-3% but nothing noticeable, when you drive the van a lot you “just know” when things feel different!! The speed rating for my tyres I recall is 110mph, the 2.3L Ducato top speed is approx 95-100mph so safe enough for me! I checked the rules on load rating and it seems your country seems to have more stringent rules on load rating!

@@ducatomods5462 I was gonna ask the same question on load rating as I tried to fit these tyres to my ducato camper and they said it would not pass french mot, not sure how to get round this as I see so many ducatos with these tyres across europe , is france really that strict? i live near the mountains and really need them !!

@ducatomods5462 2 года назад
Hi. Thanks for watching the video. I checked French tyre regulations and for some strange reason they are very strict compared to UK. I think you need to ask president Macron to relax his tyrannical tyre laws!! (Can you not simply place off road tyres on after your annual check? Or insurance invalidated?)
@paullancaster297
@paullancaster297 2 года назад
Have you recallabrated your speedometer as your tyre is a larger diameter, your Speedo will display a lower speed, and will record a lower mileage (which will give inacurrate mpg). You should aim for the same circumference of the tyre when changing sizes.
@ducatomods5462
@ducatomods5462 2 года назад
Hi Paul I’m a complete amateur and didn’t have a clue about recalibration. The only reason I changed the circumference by 10cm was purely for aesthetics to fill the huge void in the arches. I will take a google about recalibrating my tyres though. Thanks

@@ducatomods5462 From what I can remember C is for Cambionet - Van and P for Protector - the sidewall is reinforced. Check the speed on the odometer against the sat nav it should give you an idea of the error. Not sure how you'd fix the issue, and depends on how and where the speedo takes it readings from. Keep up the good work Paul

@@ducatomods5462 What people do with imported motorbikes in the UK (marked in KMPH) is put stickers on for 20 30 50mph etc. Seems to be good enough for bikes but you'd have to check. Again on bikes you can use a GPS speedo and not even have a normal one fitted. Worth checking.

You say the tires you have fitted will hold up to just over 4000 kg ,that is only at maximum pressure ,which on your tire I believe is 69 psi .you're currently running at 55 psi which means the sidewall will create a lot more rolling resistance making more heat and the tire is more likely to fail , Campervan tires are a 10 ply tire on the side wall it will say 10 PR And will hold up to 1380 kg per tire your new tires are probably only eight ply possibly six they are 10 ply for a reason take care and be safe

The tyres supplied were re-treads and had no PSI reccommnedation on them!! Im purely going off how the tyre looks at the moment. Recently I increased to 60 PSI and the walls are not bulging and look how a tyre should look. I do check weekly for damage and so far, so good. Did a non stop 300 mile journey in the van last week and all ok. Thanks for the advice.

Actually, you're out of the technical limitation for the tyres. Fiat specifies that you can only mount 215/70 or 215/75 with 15" wheels. This is why you have only such a small space with the rear wheel archs.

Im sorry but I think the new tyres are underated for weight capacity and not likely compliant with the plated spec axle wise. Plus the speedometer and mileometer will be quite inaccurate.

Just a heads up for anyone so they aren't misled.. He didn't "increase by 10cm" as he said.. He didn't even increase by 10mm (which is what I assume he meant) because he got it wrong when saying the second number represents "70mm" "80mm" etc. It doesn't. It represents the % of the tyres width. Ie. 235/70/16 would have a higher sidewall than 215/70/r16.

Woah 102 rating is definitely not enough on these vans you have that wrong unfortunately! The rating required is based on max axle weight not the actual weight of van and conversion. The front axle of these vans is rated to 1870kg meaning you require at least a 106 for the front. The rear is rated to 2000kg meaning you need a 108 on there as a minimum. Those two numbers don’t add up to 3500kg which is you GVW I know but that’s how it’s done! Please correct this as it’s very dangerous!
