I'm going magic all the way. I'm pretty sure it's the right choice, but also I would pick it even if it was the worst choice. I did that in Trailblazer and did not regret it for a second.
As the underdog in this race I feel like convincing the only person who has both played and helped make this league justifies my opinion of starting strength. To celebrate I'm going to set some mood lighting, draw a bubble bath and deck a goblin.
How are you gonna kill the quest bosses without ranged/mage? Unless you don't want to do those quests, but you get relics based on xp drops. So quest drops will be huge.
yoo cheeeeeeers! always love it when the new videos come out cause i missed the discussion on stream and it give me plenty to think about. that cliffhanger ending worked out clean and now i think everyones slowly convincing me to grab strength first for the first few days nad unlock magic later when i need it hah
if i can make str work and enjoy early barb fishing i might be down, but hoenstly i just love magic, its a comfort pick, its a safe pick for plenty of early tasks ,and more than anythhing its massivly utility. not to mention tps, enchants, AND early arceus spell book and more fluid unlocking of lunars quests later on. but almost exclusivlyyyyyyyyyyyy its all about the quests and goals i wnat ot have done by day 3 but by day 3 i plan to have str unlocked and attack for quests anyway hahahahahaha
Billybilly talking about attack made me realize the waterfall dungeon might be so crowded with people that it’s like super easy to not get attacked in there and grab an easy like 50 attack level with the xp multiplier
Waterfall at 10 hp is not that hard and even if you die you can get back in 3 minutes from Catherby. Range is not good imo, Magic is a solid pick all around and melee could definitely work as well with this starting location.
That Attack guy almost convinced me. I mean, waterfall quest at 5x would get you straight to level 46 attack, you'll already have access to Rune weapons like, 5 minutes into the league, you'll have completed the 10-40 level tasks, and you can complete 5 or so equip/special attack tasks pretty easily. And if you rush unlocking strength before doing waterfall, you'll get 46 strength as well. It's not a bad idea, I'm still going with magic though.
your wife is so cute!! I am respectfully asking for more of her idk which combat skill to pick yet but I think I'll just go with magic if I can't decide by the time leagues starts. easy safespots and the ability to alch while running around to level up your relics :)
3:55 I'm guessing mith warhammer for strength, mith scimitar for attack, magic or an elemental staff + bonus starting runes for magic, maple shortbow + bonus bronze arrows for range.
Don't have an end goal in mind for this league so I'll be going strength first and power to barb fishing will be my go to while I read up on all the tasks and relics being discovered when the league begins so I can put together of plan of what relics I want to aim for and then reverse engineer a strategy based on that as well as learning tips/get ideas from other players/content creators along the way
From what I can see, if you pick strength and then rush 20 fishing or 20 thieving which you can do in catherby you’ll have enough points to unlock attack. So I guess it’s not like you’re stuck with 1 attack for very long
Attack is 20 Sage’s Renown, I feel like being stuck without HP and Prayer (60 SR total including Attack) for so long will be relatively difficult when compared to Ranging/Magic and just grabbing Hitpoints (10 SR).
I think Attack is a trap. The changes to Warhammers means there's viable weapons up to Rune that use Strength only to determine if it can be used, and you should have both if you're going Melee before you take Slayer. A *Rune* Scimitar with *60 Attack* and 1 Strength deals *half* the DPS against low defense creatures compared to an *adamant* warhammer [which you can buy from a shop] with 1 Attack and *only 30 Strength* . You should have both before you think about taking on high defense creatures, so if you want to train early levels it makes WAYYYY more sense to start Strength and go Attack later.
starting mage because it's a requirement for some quests and it has skills that aren't combat only. I feel that combat can be started later, get a solid foundation first so it allows for efficient bossing/slaying and training. No one says you can't unlock range before you start doing combat tasks. Strength is also a good choice if you are planning to barb fish.
Crazy that I started this morning thinking I had locked in mage as my choice for the beginning of leagues, now I have no idea what I'm about to pick (not range)
Double post, but I'm going Magic first. I think Wintertodt is going to be OP in the early game - Crafting is the least important skill to improve to start it anyway, it will give early herb and tree seeds to start Farming and Herblore once you've got the points, you don't have HP unlocked by default so you can effortlessly stay low hp, and Firemaking/Woodcutting/Mining are only 30 points total. With all that in mind, Mage or Ranged make the most sense because you want to do early quest combat without having to cope with close combat. I think Mage is the best purely because all the quests that give combat XP more-or-less give it to multiple skills, so you want to do them later to get full use out of their XP rewards. Magic doesn't rely on early quest xp rewards to start, it's the fastest to train, and it gives fringe benefits like teleports and jewelry enchants early on. When you do start questing for XP, Magic makes the early Melee quests easy. My primary issue with ranged early on is it's much slower to train and it doesn't have any quest to help out with that - remember, all the Ranged xp quests require at least 30 Ranged, Big Chompy requires a fletching AND cooking unlock, and Shadow of the Storm requires a Crafting unlock and a boss fight that requires another combat style to be unlocked anyway. I probably won't take any Magic perks, but for the early game - as in before getting any relics - Magic seems like the best choice for speeding up unlocking other skills.
Everybody talking about the combat skill to unlock, but what's the second/third skill to unlock? After we get the initial combat skill do we want to unlock more combat skills ASAP? Or are we going to live with that choice and move on to skilling for a while?
melee is easy, but if you want to hunt relics early its hard to do aoe dps with melee. range you can chin for aoe dmg, but then you have to spend time getting chins. magic though... you can in theory get dt done super fast, even if you pay to unlock the quest, then its easy to burst/barrage multi monsters to rack up exp and relics super fast.
Personally I think mage is best bet, but for me I won't be doing any cb training until I have unlocked all cb stats, chances are I am going to be unlocking attack as my second cb stat then smash out the big xp quests then strength then probably do some barb fishing, also everyone seems to be forgetting that the teleport aspect of mage is actually a very small part of mage, I wanna rush high alch and other utility spells
If you're going to do the grand tree then you'll want to unlock magic anyway and it might be best to start with unholy warrior because I feel like you'll have an easier time unlocking mage relics so you don't need the starting one. Unless it's the one that uses less runes, then go back to ignoring attack.
Part of me wants to get to lategame Leagues and feels that it requires theory crafting. But I also just want to go in blind and have fun the way I used to play games
I like WC so I think starting with magic to get an easy rune axe off of tree spirits and later being able to high alch bows and get utility fragments is my plan
How do you feel about if in future leagues there is a league only boss or quest that would require the boosted power from the league to complete? It is fun to have all the extra power, but working towards an end goal besides points would be cool.
What if you went mage to start...but then _also_ unlocked ranged as another option ;o at least that's what I plan on doing lol the only downside would be if the relic fragment you got in the beginning was unique depending on the first combat skill you selected.
I'm thinking about piscarilius- great thieving xp there and it's a fishing town. Might try to just do a lot of kourend early game- I didn't play twisted leagues so it'll be fun. Still not decided on my first combat skill- ranged and mage seem obvious being single skills but strength and attack give you melee which won't take arrows/runes. I might just go non combat and see how much I can do for awhile before so I can unlock hitpoints and prayer as well
I mean if attack and str are only 20 points each. Easy tasks are 5 points each, so it’s only 8 tasks to unlock both? I imagine you can easily do 8 tasks with fishing/ thieving. Unlock magic first. AFK fishing at start, and do some early thieving. Then unlock str and attack, do waterfall, fight arena, do a bunch of attack tasks, and monster kills. Unlock range.
