Yo guys, Today we talk about a few skills you need to become an architect. Do you need to be good at drawing to become an architect? Do you need to be good at math? Do you need to know karate? watch the video to find out.
Now this list is not comprehensive and i only covered a few of the skills that are actually needed, in fact you need a ton of skills to become an architect, but that's for another video.

Hey! Being an architect also involves problem solving . Wag kang matatakot sa math subjects. It is just for you to have a background on the structural aspect of counstructing buildings. Mas maganda sana kung icareer mo rin yan or araling mabuti. But when you are already an architect, you could consult the enginers for that. The challenge lies in coming up with solutions to a myriad of problems, on top of showing yuor creativity through your work.

I am already in my second semester of architecture school. But tbh I tend to feel down every once in a while, since it's a really hard major and I am still practicing my drawing skills. Its alright. Just pass all the college requirement for Math. At least you just have the understanding how math works on your profession. In the end its still the basic math which is in play. For a much complex computation later on you will have to hire a Quantity Surveyor and Structural Consultant anyways. Be on top of the game but don't be afraid to ask our allied professions for help. An architect should focus on how to get good projects, win the heart of the client and end user and of course get paid.

I'm a Filipino too and I'm scared of choosing my course for college, I'm having trouble choosing whether I'll take Civil engineering or architecture, I'm bad at mathematics and drawing too, I think architecture is much more suitable for me since I think the math in architecture is milder than civil engineering. I hope one day I'll come back to this video as someone successful. Thank you for the info salamat!

A piece of friendly advice : if you choose architecture, you will have to use more your drawing or artistic skills more than being adept at math. Design is from first year to fifth year: then you have visual technique subjects.,then you have the drafting subjects. On top of that, you must be creative, too. Because Design is all about finding ways to fit in all that is required in a project.

you can also use programs on computers like sketch up if thats easier than plainly drawing it out

You could draw straight lines first. Then curvy lines. Just simple doodles. Start by tracing on the simple images you would like to draw. Then if you are already confident just remove the image below. Repeat or copy. Later on you will be on your own. Imagine a kid on a bike with trainer wheels. Or a kid who is trying to learn to swim but still on floaters. Practice and practice until you gain your own style. Quick sketching could be a great on project site where there is no computer or printer around. Good luck!

I've been hype everytime I watched your videos, It strived me to work hard so that I can cope up with the stress on the day I will start studying architecture. But at one point in my life, on the time I watched this video and heard something I didn't expect, that I think that it will be my downfall, I layed down in my bed telling myself how will I survive MATH in architecture, I never imagined that Mathematics in architecture will be this complex. Now, I came up to my realization that I have to work even harder and do my responsibilities properly since I'm still in senior high school.. it was a pity that i discovered this video too late! your words and positive vibe inspired and comforted me in such a way that it almost made me cry. i was so pressured these days on what to do and what path do i take. i thought before that im already sure on what do i realy want to be but in a snap, i suddenly thought that im not. i was scared of failure even if i tell myself a hundred times that failure is a part of success and that you'll never succeed if you never experienced failing. fear consumes me everytime and it always affect my being. one of those hindrances that stop me is that im not that great at drawing and that i also suck at math sometimes. im also afraid of being judged. i thought that i could never be great since i'm stuck with those but i couldn't get myself to like other profession aside from engineering, construction and architecture. your words pursued and inspired me to conquer my fears and achieve what i desires. when the time comes and i obtained something great in life, i'll make sure to credit you as one of those people who inspired me. it's a big, big thanks for you ✨

If anyone is in high school who is thinking about architecture in the future, I'd say that take all the art classes! In architecture college, I found that we needed to create fast sketches for brainstorming, or showcasing ideas. Honestly, I haven't come across much math in my arch classes except calculus and physics is a major requirement but it always helps so that when design in actual construction come, you can understand the math behind it

@@stycheikim5214 no no no unlike architecture engineering doesn't require drawing skills. You will need very very basic drawing skills but in architecture your semester contains only about drawing and artistic skills therefore engineering is better if you love maths and practical physics

watch a lot of tutorials ,sketchbook tours on youtube,save a lot of designs and ideas from pinterest,dont be afraid to copy them because copying helps in learning the basics,and when you are confident enough try to make your own ideas and create them! no one is born an artist everyone starts from 0,it might not turn like you expected but you will get there eventually trust me im the least patient person you'll come across but even i have improved quite a bit by doing this

Architecture is art but also technical. because everything in your head (ideas) should be fixed to become a reality and that we need math. Actually its not that complex its still the basic math we use. There are other degrees out there you might be interested. Painting, Sculpture, Advertisement Art, Photography, Industrial Art, 3d Animation, Landscape Architecture, Naval Architecture, Interior Design, Community Design and Planning.. Etc.

My advice is to work hard and have fun!!:) Also start practicing drawing and arts early, it will help a lot in school:)

This was interesting! Even though you lace humour into all of your messages - this really motivated me, as deadlines are getting closer, I sometimes think to myself why do I put myself through so much stress when I could do something easier to study for (i.e something that only has lectures/exams instead of having to spend 20 minutes getting a load of pens and rulers ready), but then you mentioned that it’s not easy for architects, thats why its a prestigious title. And I’m not doing this for the prestige, but it made me think about the bigger picture and that I do want to make a difference. So thank you Llyan! ✍️

So interesting. I'm an architect in the UK and I would say that mathmatical ability is waaaay down the list of important skills. Being able to communicate is a far more important skill on a daily basis (as you progress so much time is spent writing e-mails and managing both staff and clients). The point about fear though was very perceptive. I feel like the job is a cocktail of fear, pressure and small wins.
