Have you ever wondered what still exists today from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair? What's still around from the Columbian Exposition? In this video I share some locations you can still visit in Chicago, as well as unbox some souvenirs from the Fair.

Hi everyone I've been asked this question a few times so I decided to pin a comment about it :) I said in the video that the statue was "destroyed by a fire" but should have said "destroyed with fire." It was intentionally destroyed in 1896. Here is an article about it: worldsfairchicago1893.com/2021/08/28/death-of-the-republic-the-fiery-end-to-the-golden-colossus-of-the-1893-worlds-fair/

How does a statue, isolated on the water, get destroyed by a FIRE? Or all the magnificent STONE and plaster classical buildings?

The statue was hollow and was deteriorating rapidly In January of 1896 it was deceived to eliminate it in a grand way, since it was the symbol of the fair. Since the Court of Honor was destroyed by arson in January of 1894, it was decided to torch it. The interior was loaded with flammable materials and torched. A large part of the city turned out to see this. The Great Basin was left alone until the Jackson Park rehab around 1904. In the winter it was used as an ice skating rink.

There's actually an infamously overproduced silver half dollar for coin collectors like me out there - there are so many of these, and since many of them were either left untouched with 1893 fair memorabilia or were not handed out by the Mint that they can still be obtained in mint (virtually untouched) condition today. There's also a quarter made by the Board of Lady Managers of Isabella, the queen funding the Columbus expedition - THIS one is tough to find, and very valuable!

There is actually one more world fair building left..it's a small one, and is being redone, but it's located on 67th and South Shore Drive for any Chicago folks interested in seeing it. Most of us pass by it everyday and see it but don't pay it any attention.

How was the statue destroyed by fire, it has been said that it was actually partially if not fully covered in gold. So i guess my question is where was it at when the fire destroyed it?

I'd recommend looking on eBay, or looking around at antique stores. I've found that stereocards are often thrown together in a shoebox in antique stores without any real organization, so you have to really go through every single one to look at the images/descriptions to see if it's from the Fair. I've found one or two that way! (Fingers get very dirty and dusty, but it's worth it)

Wrong about the plaster materials , all the buildings were not made out of this with Hemp, no way, and what about in Paris and St, Louis among many other World Fairs all over the world between 1875-1915 , that mainstream narrative is BS ! I thought it was Teslas AC lightening systems that lit up the 1893 Chicago World Fair and not Edison inefficient DC ones !! "The Chicago World Fair was illuminated using Nikola Tesla’s neon fluorescent lighting powered by his A/C system, it was a spectacle that amazed the world. The battle came to a head at the 1893 Chicago World Fair. "
