This is what a lot of people on social media don't understand. They're saying Julia is doing a terrible or lazy accent. What they don't know is that the real Anna talks like this.
After seeing your comment I wanted to check if it was true, and I didn’t find an ounce of resemblances between their accents. However Julia’s accent in the series was very satisfying to hear so I don’t have any complaints about it.
Couldn’t find videos of Anna with a very similar accent but yes her natural voice is very valley girl so I assume Julia decided to highlight the German accent to enhance the role.
@@SoundBlackRecordings you clearly didn’t went to listen to the real Anna but yes your lazy attitude still found some time to comment out of pure ignorance 🤦🏽♂️
@@bulldoglove7631 Bulldog...that is exactly how Anna sounds in real life...A fake European accent that couldn't be nailed down. Anna tried to sound aristocratic. So created this accent.
@@carunaroeders5236 Anna tried to hide the fact that she was Russian...So invented this accent to disguise herself as a German Heiress. If you listen to the real Anna.. she sounds exactly like this..totally fake. And people were always trying to guess where she was from. She always recoiled when they guess Russia.
But that's why it's extra embarrassing. All those elite Americans are so uncultured that not one of them noticed such a glaring discrepancy?? Crazy how she managed to outsmart them in so many ways, for so long. Made a fool of them for sure
I found myself rooting for Anna everytime, even tho I shouldn't. 😭 Julia's portrayal is just so endearing, so amazing you can't help but be taken in completely.
@@editk7019unfortunate truth is that narcissists and conmen are charming and cunning; their whole job is to make people fall for them otherwise everyone would see through them
It is an extreme understatement to even say that Julia literally BECAME Anna!! NOBODY could have played this role even half as well as Julia. She was Anna Delvey!
@@KokoMoorad *language and *its evolution. "it's" is a contraction for "it is", while "its" is the possessive form that you meant. I understand that language evolves. If she said "Julia literally became Anna" it could be understood as simple hyperbole and I wouldn't have made a joke about it. But, to say that it's an "understatement to even say that Julia literally became Anna" is just silly and excessive to the point of meaninglessness.
I want her to succeed at everything she does because the payoff of watching her performance is always enjoyable. She definitely embodies her characters and crushes the performances!
Julia is *phenomenal*. I'm a Russian with a pure, neutral American accent (Americans think I'm one of them) and I could never tone it down to sound like a Russian who's trying to sound native. Let me just say - Julia's is one of the most accurate portrayals of this I've ever seen on film. I can't believe how talented she is. And don't get me started on Ozark...
@@floa.3565 Yeah, I think what may have happened is that she got it while learning English in Germany, so it's very possible that Julia copied it very well. Some of her vowels could easily be German, underneath the overwhelming Russian intonation :)
This show was great, from start to finish. I had a love/ hate relationship with Anna's character. When an actor is able to tug at your emotions like that, they have amazing talent! Julia deserves more than one award for her role in this show.
Loved the acting of Clumski too and and also the girl who played Rachel and the lawyer..and all the characters were top notch acted. Seriously a great series👍
Julia Garner is getting double nominated in 2023 award season; for this role and as Ruth in Ozark. She is definitely WINNING an Emmy for this role. She’s beyond brilliant.
I’ve watched some interviews of the real Anna Sorokin and she cracks me up with her blunt and dry humor, as well as the fact that she was just ballsy enough to do all this. I totally understand she is a narcissist/sociopath and a criminal, but if I randomly met her in a club, we’d probably have a good time together.
Why are we glamorizing a scammer, thief and criminal yet again? Whether or not the people she scammed had money or not, we need to stop lifting up people who do not deserve it. But also fail to contribute anything to society outside of their selfish, corrupt, greedy, & immoral ways.
@@Just999Me My words. I find the finishing words of the video ('Anna is a masterpiece') a little unsettling. Definitely to her gratification or motivation for other aspiring scammers.
Julia Garner kicked ass in this series. I was astounded to learn she was also filming this most recent season of Ozark at the same time. What an incredible talent she is! Brava!
I wanted to slap the shit out of Anna throughout the show, and had fantasies of a hit man gunning her down in the street. I was infuriated at Vivian Kent for feeling sorry for her at the end. I hate con artists
Julia is a top notch actress! She has the ability to play sweet and tough characters like Ruth in Ozark and as cynical as Anna, and through her acting we can see what is going on inside these characters, Julia is EXTRAORDINARY, I love watching her performances!
Julia Garner's performance is excellent. I am having difficulty with understanding why people liked Anna, why they thought she was a good person and why they found her trustworthy. She reminds me of the fictional Bella Swan from the "Twilight" series. I didn't understand why everyone, especially the Cullens, rallied around Bella. She was obsessed with Edward, period. She wasn't particularly nice. But I digress.. It's evident that Anna is a sociopath. All of her friends' insistence that she is a good person and really rich is unfathomable.
By Anna picking up the tabs and buying nice gifts was her way of getting into their good graces. Anyone can be nice if they want something from you. Just like the hotel clerk, she really used her.
Shondaland work is always amazing and I liked the actor selection for this miniseries. I loved seeing all the Scandal actors too! Great work! I also appreciated the portrayal of Anna and the psychological principle of persuasion. She embodies such power in persuasion.
Julia Garner’s comments ‘how gentle she is’ ‘childlike’ validates how con artists actually draw people in, no matter how smart or savvy they are. I’ve heard con artists & narcissists described as charismatic. I’m guessing she (Delvey) has been able to use her skills since her recent release from prison in 2021 since she did not show remorse in her most recent interview.
This is the reason why all the sociopath/psychopath/outsiders are famous. People dont particularly like them in the sense that they approve what they do and represent. They are curious about the characters, the intention, everything because arent we all attracted to abnormalities in some way? What i like about the show is how the story was written. One it feels really 2022. Second is besides talking about this rich famous wanna be socialite, it reflects the state of the society we are in. we are in an economy where young people want and feel the need to build something on their own more than ever before. I found a lot of the quotes used thru out the movie amazingly true and relatable. Anna Delvey lives inside every one of us. But obviously she is radical and in a bad way. She wanted to create something big. But her action/ execution is wrong and detrimental to society. Thats why she failed / got rejected. Somewhat reminds me of the story of Elizabeth Holmes. I also really enjoy the educational aspect of the show. It literally walked us thru the process of someone going pitch their ideas to investors and set up an amazing marketing plan to get PR for her business. I’m not sure if the real anna sorokin was really like in the show, probably not. But the one in the movie was really described as someone who is fearless, unbothered, brave, quick learner, serious and passionate. The ball of a 26 go into business meeting to secure $200mm (knowing that shes con artist). The determination and conviction this woman have and gather for her dream to come true. Like any teenagers/young adults can relate to this. We all say we want something that represents us, but seriously how many ppl put in the amount of work/thinking/shamelessness/uncomfort to make it happen? Bc if u aint, look at Chase (the other character) , that will be how your dreams end up. U cant be soft/naive/nice all the time when it comes to your dream. And i feel somehow the radical portrait of Anna makes the dreamer in me learn that we can never half ass in our idea / u have to believe in it 200% and fight for it knowing the the odds are always against you Lastly, we have to talk about the way women is describe, hollied, praised in this show. Both Anna and the journalist represent the emotional world inside of most housewives. The journalist didnt let her baby stand in her way of finding herself / dream. Anna didnt let Chase decide whats good and not good for her. She didnt let his selfishness bother her. I seriously relate so much from this aspect of the show. If u are women, u know how much u sacrifice for your family and sometimes your husband/boyfried dont understand/care. Not because they dont love/care for you. But bc men have their own social expectations they need to fill. They think the money they make ultimately is more important because they will be the main breadwinner and their wife will be living okay just taking care of them and the family well. Like hell no. Not anna. Not Vivian kent. They are all out for their dream bc at the end of the day, no one cares abt your dream. They have theirs. And if u throw your identity away bc your husband/parents/basically entire society doesnt care, u will end up not caring either. Like a deferred dream. A dried raisin. Again, im not complimenting Anna Sorokin for what she did, but seriously, her character is relatable. And the writing, the acting is impeccable. The film director was able to curate many different social and personal issues from this one bizarre character. The fight of the good and bad in us. I just adore and love it so much. U dont need to agree with me. I dont care if u do either. If it makes sense for you, why dont you admit it?
I LOVE YOUR REVIEW. Strongly relate about focusing on your own dream because nobody cares about your dream. I don’t condone the way Anna did it, but I want to manifest an Anna in me to reach my dream.
I can't believe I actually read a long youtube comment in its entirety but loved your review about the 200%. Same reaction when I saw the show. When it comes to your dream, maybe you need to be a bit delusional, or visionary if you actually make it happen lol.
We've been doing that a while. These days we worship people sole for having a giant ass they post all day or because they walk around with Kanye and a stocking over your head. We're f'd.
It’s such a bad German accent, but apparently that was the real Annas accent so great for the actors, but weird how people actually thought she was German
Awful, rubbish accent. Like Gaga’s italian accent in the Gucci movie. Sounds like russian, not German. German accent is nothing like this. Plus Anna’s english is much better in the interviews. I found this accent annoying in the Netflix movie.
I first saw Julia Garner in her role for Electrick Children (2012) and I could immediately tell she was something special. I'm so happy to see her blow up with all these juicy roles. Very talented actor.
Love her acting, I still think BEN is alive! Wendy is acting really weird about his death and his Ashes. I’m thinking she put him in a Hospital to get help?????😀😀😀
Just finished watching. I remember being so amused by the story when the article came out. Julia is amazing. I was equal parts in awe, angry, frustrated and amused by Anna Delvey - which I guess was the point of the show.
That's the whole point because she glamorised herself but the series brings out that she certainly isn't some sort of heroine - she used people atrociously.
people talked badly about julias accent, but i watched interviews of the real anna....anna's accent was just as awful. how anyone believed this woman is beyond me.
I’ve just finished the series, it was very good indeed, but Julia was amazing in her portrayal of Anna, I only binged on this because of ozark, yea Julia is a very good actress indeed👍👍
Making this kind of person the hero of a TV series says a lot about our society. That's all this person would have dreamed of and that's what you give her. The message to our children is "Go on, be a fraud, walk on everyone's face, fake your friendships, one day you'll succeed".
The accent was the oddest part about the role. I've seen many interviews with the real Anna and I did not hear anything like the one Julia used, unless Anna's accent has softened over the years. Very compelling story.
I agree. Julia's accent may have been consistent and "authentic", but she didn't sound like Anna. I liked her acting, and I was definitely entertained by the series. But she didn't capture the real Anna's...allure. Which would have made the whole thing a little more credible, I think.
@@kittysitter2023 100% agree to every assessment! I love Julia. Had I not seen the real Anna, it may have made it better for me. Reminds me of how I felt about the Tammy Faye movie / Jessica Chastain's portrayal. But they all are amazing!
Gentle!!! I did not find Anna gentle at all. She was quick to criticize you if you were over weight, didn't wear high end clothing, or shoes. This woman was vile and deserves to be in jail and/or deported for what she did.
People don't realise she BEHAVED "gentle" in front of the actress, that does not mean she IS "gentle". This actress is just describing her experiences with her.
She did a fantastic job in this role. I was repulsed by the real humans involved and even the dopey sympathetic team involved in creating this series but her acting and presentation was excellent. So much felt volcanic, tense and just below the surface and she gave a glimpse into the the intense inner workings with just the tiniest eyebrow wiggle or flash of the eye or diverted gaze. A magnificent job Julia, well done.
Both Julia and Anna Chlumsky deserve an Oscar for their talent, I mean their playing Anna and Vivian's characters reeled me in soooooo completely from start to finish ughhhh
I LOVED her in this role. I thought she was adorable, fun, smart as well as 100% convincing -- esp when I finally saw "the real deal." Shonda was brilliant to buy the rights of this story.
I watched this purely because of Julia and her performance in Ozark. She did an amazing job as Anna. Such a shame the show had a a lousy plot line though. Look forward to seeing her in more films/shows.
