In the third week of our series Paper Chasers, we had the amazing opportunity to hear from Pastor Robert Morris of Gateway Church in Dallas/For t Worth, Texas. He brought such a practical example of the importance of Tithing. Today we learned that Tithing is a test, it is biblical and it is personal! This man truly helped me, I saw his sermon back when I was 17 and went through college, when most people are broke with as much 20k in my account. I make a point to give my first check everytime I start a new job and some how money just comes from many different avenues and I'm at a surplus instead of a deficit.

Same! In fact, we paid cash for all my husband’s tuition. He got his BS in chemical engineering, then his masters in education and applied behavior analysis. Now he’s going to med school. We have paid $60k in cash tuition, and we’re able to give almost $20k to our church last year- amazingly, on an income of $58k. On top of that, we were able to feed 80 people every week from our kitchen without ever going broke. Money would come in the mailbox, random class action settlement checks, cash gifts, inheritance, refund checks, stimulus, free food, etc.

I’ve started to tithe at my church and I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been doubting if I can afford to since I never know how much I’ll make day to day. Pastor Robert saying “you’ll never be able to afford to tithe until you tithe” is exactly the message from the Lord that I needed. I’m going to keep doing my best to put Him first, especially in my finances.

You don't have to tithe your "finances" if you don't have it. You will end up broker. Tithe your time to share the word, tithe the first hour of your day to spend in god's word. There are other ways to tithe, other than finances. Robert Morris makes you feel like you have to tithe money. Not true, I can show you in the bible where the old Mosaic law of tithing money does not apply anymore, why because when Christ died he did away with the old Mosaic laws, he left us with 2 things. 1 have no other Gods before Jehova. 2. Love your neighbor as your self.

I can truthfully say that tithing pays. I was studying and working, struggling with my finances cos I could only work part time. But I decided to keep tithing and God came through for me at the time when I had less than £10 in my account - I recieved funds and food from an unexpected source. God honours his word, he will never let you go hungry, keep tithing. think of it as God only wants 10% the 90% is yours, he will come through for you. He loves a faithful giver.

If you are a true believer of Christ, you are not under a curse. Don't be fooled by prosperity teachers like Morris who preach a false gospel on giving. Reach Malachi 2&3 and understand the actual meaning of tithes and offering and who God was specifically talking to because it wasn't to us today. God bless you ❤️.

I really liked the analogy of God giving you funds and only asking you to give his wife 10% while He's away. Of course he won't keep giving you an increase when you're dissing his wife (the church) like that. Take care of his wife while he's away. Simple enough🤷🏾‍♀🥰

@@ivy0130 it would be "your increase". So if you have a business, it would be your profit. E.g if you have a $10 product that cost you $3 to create, then you would tithe on the $7 profit. If someone is "gifting" you money for upkeep, kind of like an allowance, I believe it would be more considered as cheerfully giving an offering on it and not necessarily tithing because it's not the fruit of your labor, it's just God blessing you through someone else. You can still tithe on it though. I'd say pray about it and see where God leads you.

You can't rob God and Paster Robert Morris isn't speaking from a biblical context. Nowhere in the bible did God or Jesus ever ask anyone for their money. He's cherry-picking verses in order to lace together a mandate for people to give money to a religious institution. You are free to give as you are able and lead. Don't let anyone persuade you you have to give them money in order to be "right with God." Blessings in your giving.

@@tanyajessica5138 He misinterpreted some of the scriptures to fit his agenda. 1. Tithing does not have to always be "monetary" 2. He says "You will not be cursed if you can't tithe with money". false, you can tithe your time, food, goods. The point is it comes from your available recourse, but most important, tithing comes from the heart! Jehova does love a cheerful giver. 3. He mentions would you skip out on the check? This is false teaching. 4. Jesus came to fulfil the law, the old Mosaic law was to tithe, correct. But when Jesus came and died the old law was not to be forgotten but it was fulfilled. He left us with 2 things. Love your neighbor as yourself, and have no other Gods before Jehova. I'll send scriptures to back my statement

Tithing has blessed my life. I was always struggling. A friend told me to tithe just anything I can do. So I did and trust me my finances are still the same . Nothing has changed in terms of income however I have been able to manage better. Also I get random people gifting me what I need without asking. Honestly I could be needing something for me or my daughter and not even tell anyone but Pete are always calling me for things left, right and center. ( I take hand me downs too because they always work for me) But like if you come to my house you would never know I'm jobless and a single mom. I have everything provided. Thats not my own doing but God's trust me

I have been a faithful tither since I was in high school, even when I was unemployed from whatever I would get from family or anywhere else I gave tithe. God provided me with a job, and when the pandemic hit, my job became even more secure, and I made even more money. When people were talking about how tough things were I could not relate, I was provided for in every corner. I don't care how tight my budget is, I am going to tithe and give my offering.

We out here! But there were some parts of this sermon that missed the mark and were either a reductive reading of the Bible, an out of context reading, or just plain wrong. It is what it is. 🤷🏾‍♀️ That being said, we should be cheerful givers who regularly go above and beyond 10% in our generosity, but that doesn’t mean everything Pastor Morris said is contextual and scriptural. 🙈 I love TC nation though! Because in the deep, we can have these conversations and go to the Bible for instruction. Don’t just listen to me. Don’t just listen to this sermon. Listen to God!

@@thekiaradanielle I agree; it's good for healthy dialogue. Fortunately, we still have a choice about being cheerful givers and asking God directly if we're uncertain about whether or not we should be tithing. I can say personally that faithfully tithing has literally brought me from glory to glory and my life is starkly different from my life prior to returning to God what's His in the first place.

@@thekiaradanielle listen to other sermons by Pastor Robert Morris and you’ll realise that preaching and using scripture out of context he doesn’t do. He studied theology and I’ve also have a bachelor of Theology and one thing I’ll tell you is they teach us how to properly divide the word of God. Exegesis and hermeneutics, How to break down book and verses and reading in context. We have the four W’s and the H Who wrote the book ? When did they write it? Why did they write it ? Who was the writer talking to ? How were they communicating? We study the culture and the times around the books and so many other things.

Robert Morris is a creative and persuading speaker but most of what he is presenting here isn't biblical. The bible doesn't give us the option of monetizing the tithe. That's something man invented after the bible was written.

Robert Morris is a very good speaker and a good persuader. His theology in regards to tithing is biblically errant. He's ultimately another Prosperity Gospel advocate that takes scriptures out of context and ad's to scripture to support his point(s) as well. There's no such thing as a biblical tithe that was received from earned wages. Blessings in your giving.

In 2017 something broke off me. Suddenly I could think clearer and I began to see people for who they were. I was able to stand up for myself better. I stopped accepting disrespect as the norm. I wasn’t sure what happened. I was chatting with an old friend recently and she noticed the improvement in my life. She asked what I was doing differently. I honestly couldn’t tell her. All I could say was “something broke off me.” My life is happier and more joyful than five years ago. I’m watching this message and thinking 🤔. I realized something broke off me when I started titheing regularly. That’s when the change happened. Titheing brings other benefits besides money 💰 as well. ♥️♥️♥️

Thank you for FINALLY breaking down the purpose of my offerings to God 1st! This TOTALLY explains the struggles of my family. After hearing a sermon from Pastor Mike I started trying to get myself in line with tithing and asking the Holy Spirit how can I do this with so many things requiring my attention as a single mother. It's amazing how the enemy has been throwing debt collectors at me since the Holy Spirit has been unveiling the IMPORTANCE OF TITHING. I PRAISE GOD for these teachings.

I have always had excuses when it came to tithing, I have been unemployed for over a year, God has been providing for me and today I received money and the first payment I made was to tithe.
