That toilet bowl light is actually really helpful for person who are blind but still have light perception so they can tell where their toilet is when they go in the bathroom.

The spinny thing doos work well I can say from experience, we have 2 of them for when we eat outside. Since we live next to water, a lot of flies fly around and they help keep them away frm our food. Whilst you could put a cover on bowls and such, it becomes quite difficult when you have 5 plates, several bowls for salads/fries, another couple plates for meat from the bbq, etc. so these are a perfect solution!

the bug/fly repellant thingy is actually pretty good, it keeps flys away from the general area so they dont bother you when you're eating, and luke im not gonna cover my own plate every time i pick something up with my fork lol

Jessica has STRONG Drew Carey vibes, would absolutely watch her game show, rotate cast members out weekly and get some staff parings we might not otherwise see. Hope we see more of Jessica and content like this in the future!

Just realized the toilet light was the thing my wife's parents had for her grandparents to find the toilet in the dark. It actually works pretty well, and looked pretty cool when lit.

Great segment! Soap is a misnomer for the stainless steel bar. The thing is meant to remove odors, not clean. I bought one like a decade ago because it was cheap and looked cool, not because I expected it to work. My family is convinced that the thing works and it does seem to help reduce odors. The spinning bug repellent thing is fairly common in Asia especially amongst street vendors.

Wikipedia says the stainless steel soap doesn't work, but I've used it and it most definitely worked for me. I've seen the wiki page way back when, and the argument for why it didn't work was something like "Homeopathy is for idiots, go hug your crystals, this doesn't work". It really didn't have many arguments. I've used it, it worked. I'm not talking hygieëne, I'm talking smells. Then again, it might just be because you're rubbing on something. It's not like a wash cloth doesn't work.

The toilet light is actually pretty useful. I purchased one way back and it didn't last long before it just died regardless of batteries, HOWEVER; I would have continued to use it had it been of quality. It's really nice for late night #1s when you want to find the toilet but don't want to turn on the bathroom light and blind yourself.

I think the steel soap shouldn't be smooth but instead have tiny grooves in it for it to work. It just kind of peels off a layer of your skin like sandpaper as you rub it while washing your hands thus getting rid of smells like garlic, fish etc.

This 100% needs to be a regular segment, on the WAN show or as it's own show. Absolutely amazing.

Yes, my experienced was enhanced by this segment. Also suddenly Jessica's wheel game segment from months ago makes a lot sense after seeing their energy.

Some metals have an affinity for sulfur. That's why alcohol distillers often put copper in their stills. So the stainless steel garlic soap is probably supposed to absorb allicin and ajoene and stuff from crushed garlic by grabbing and holding the sulfur atoms.

18:00 We used to have one, we used it for removing fish smell from your hands after fishing. It wasnt perfect but it did seem to help a little

Stainless steel soap + actual soap (wash your hands with it), and it DOES seem to remove smell. I'm very curious about scientific testing of this. We use it at home, and it really does seem to get the smells off my hands better than just soap. The thing most people miss is that you need REAL soap as well as the stainless steel.

You can buy toilet seats with RGB nightlight built in from Kohler and others, in stock at home depot…..my wife used the power of veto. It was very effective

As a cook, there's an old theory that when you handle a bunch of onions or garlic, then you should rub your hands and especially finger nails on the metal of the faucet. Supposedly the metal reacts with the particularly stanky molecules that normal soap and water struggles with. I can confirm that it has an effect, but the act of washing your hands differently and more thoroughly while thinking about it is enough that it could be placebo. I have done 0 research on this, and have just heard it organically in many kitchens.

For the first item, I think you might have used it incorrectly. I work in metallurgy, and we use a very similar tool when working away from the labs. They can be excellent if they are used the same way you would use a microscope. Some come with LED lights and focus tools. They're meant to be used like

I saw the second item being used exactly as Jessica said ! Bugs didn't cale too close to the food vélo but it isn't really efficient at it.

I've had the toilet bowl lights for years now. They work only when it's dark and see motion and are RGB so you can set the color. Great for finding the toilet in the middle of the night and you never have to flip on the lights in the room. Batteries last a long time as well. As for cleanliness, you just clean it like anything else in the bathroom. It doesn't get very dirty if you place it correctly.

I feel like the toilet light thing is intended for being able to find the toilet accurately in the dark when you don't want to turn the light on. But still, a regular night light would probably be better as just a dim light. Also I think my mom has real silver silverware. It does get tarnished like real silver. Maybe nowadays there's only the ultra-premium silverware-phile stuff left for sale but there was more low grade stuff in the past?

I'm all for more of these shenanigans. The stainless steel soap is probably intending to capitalise on the chemical reaction of metal and reduce ones garlic smell. That's only really an issue if you eat so much garlic you basically sweat sulfur and permanently shell like garlic. Even then, I can't see this working so well.

A good stainless steel knife will get rid of the garlic smell from your hands. Just be careful.

I KNEW THE PROPELLER THING! Don't remember where I saw it but I've seen this asked in some sort of quiz before, and the funny thing is, the one they had shown was like 100-200 years old, so this is actually a super old idea! (I think it used to run with something other than electricity, if memory serves right and it actually was that old... Might have also been from a time when electricity was new. Since when do we have electric batteries and devices again?)

Those soaps do work for onion. I was hesitant but I got one as a gift and it worked as has been working for a year now. As for garlic I don’t know.

In hindsight, I no longer believe I have silver cutlery. 🤣

@Linus I think you are using the tele-lens slightly wrong, you can also change the amount of digital zoom to get the autofocus function of the phone trying to focus on the right 'distance'. I had a similar one and it needed a little figuring out or playing with it. Initially it was a little frustrating but once you figure out it is not that bad (not a manufactured trash)

That toilet bowl light I thought would be a light to help find light switches at night and I think that may be a decent use case.

I have one of those telescope lenses for the phone camera, and once you get used it can give you really good pictures, is specially useful for really far away stuff, just like any telescope

I know the live in Canada where I guess there’s no bus but here in the south everyone has those propeller things they work great.

So the spinny thing for insects is a real thing. A local restaurant in my area gives them out to the outside seating tables to keep the flys away. It actually kinda works.

Here in Australia, that fly swatter is common place. We've had one for years.

Good on Luke and Linus for letting Jessica's F slip by without making a deal out of it. Luke's face was funny, Linus heard it but looked unfazed.

I owned and used one of those toilet bowl things. It's very handy if you want to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and don't want to turn on the light and get blinded. The light is enough to navigate the bathroom to the toilet but is very soft, and once you sit down the glow is even more muted and you don't really need it then. Also, if you're a guy and standing to pee, you can aim super easily without blinding yourself. But yes, it does get kinda gross. But it's only the LED end and you leave it on the toilet the entire time so it's not that bad.

steel soaps to actually work for scent removal oddly enough.

That telephoto lens thing, a friend of mine brought it for a concert she was watching. She coupled it with the 2x zoom lens on her phone and, well, better than the equivalent digital zoom. Only marginally, but I think it's worth it. Given that you can't bring interchangeable lens camera to most concerts, which she has one. That being said, I am one of the people that would say to just enjoy the show, don't record with your anything, etc etc. The fan thingy, we actually have lots of those in my country in SEA, found in low-mid class road side restaurants. Well, the rudimentary solution. It's a small ceiling fan hub that the blades have been replaced with strings or a piece of cloth.

We have that exact toilet light we got from Temu and we love it.

I actually use that toilet bowl light. It is so useful. The light reflects off the toilet bowl and really useful as a night light. It's motion and light sensitive. So its not always on.

The garlic soap is actually sound, supposedly. I once heard a professional chef say that rubbing your hands on "something metal" gets garlic smell off of them.

She needs to be on more wan shows. She is such a character, and I love her!

Night toilet light is pretty handy - if you need to pee without turning on the lights, like when you're terribly sleepy and you don't want to completely wake up, cause it's a middle of a night and you're planning to go continue your sleep. The amount of light is really enough to aim properly :D But when I tested it I had to stick it to the outside of a bowl double sided tape and velcro, so it would be kept in place when the seat is up and easily removable and disposable at the same time.

Shocked Austin has not thought to do this.

I actually have one of those toilet bowl lights and its a really neat product, saves me having to turn on the light when I go to the toilet late at night and looks pretty cool too if a little bit silly lol

Those insect repellents are ideal for a buffet style setup outside. For your salads and meat for an outside BBQ. When there are 20+ people, there's always someone who forgets to cover the food.

Actually i've used one of the telaphoto lens dodads and mine worked ok, not great but way better than just trying to zoom, when you have a crappy camera its a cheap legit upgrade

Chat's right, the spinning obelisk fly repellant works. I went to a restaurant where the outdoor tables had them, just a bit larger. You put it right in the middle of the table, it doesn't get in the way like you might expect. The effect on flies is dramatic and immediate. It all but banishes them from a small table, even when there are a lot of them.

Those fly repellers are actually really good, they work.
