I was born and raised in Blytheville. When the Air Force Base left the town went with them. Drugs and shootings have taken my city down the dumpster. When I was growing up the population was like 25-30k now it’s 9 k…smh just sad
North Korea has to grant you permission to enter their country. They deny entry to many RU-vidrs. They also will have an assigned “tour guide” to make sure people paint the country in the best light.
What happened??? I live about 1 hour from there. Bad drug problem (meth). Stay away Lamont, Blythville has a bad underbelly that you won't see in the day time. (Also the I55 interstate was built and people bypass Blythville).
There was an Air Force base there years ago and it was a hopping town! When the air base was shut down everything went downhill economically, very sad situation
I spent a summer living in Caruthersville about 25 years ago, it was a decent little town with some rough edges back then, but on a road trip a few years back I passed through to see what it was like and it was quite shocking how far that little town has fallen.
I lived in Caruthersville for many years before moving to Bly-Vegas in 2021. I still work there. I used to work at the shipyard, but that has been a few years ago.
I’ve always been fascinated with abandoned places only because it’s a time capsule of history, obviously I’m sad at the fact the place is abandoned. Makes me wanna jump into a time machine and go back to the time period in which it was hustling and bustling 😮
Our small rural town here in Oklahoma, began clearing abandoned properties, tearing down what's left of the homes, garages, sheds etc making them look like nothing was ever there.
My Dad grew up, some, in Martha, OK. That is until the Dust Bowls hit and Grandma and Grandpa lost their Farm in the Depression. My Dad would have been about 9 years old. Grapes of Wrath was their story, basically. They moved to Colorado and Grandpa built a beautiful little house and worked as a chef for the Railroad. The family sold the house in 1985. Now it's not there anymore, because the city widened the street it was on. We lived in it for 2 years in 1973 through 1975. How I miss those days.
When I was a kid, I used to think it would be nice to find an abandoned house, move in and fix it up, I thought it was possible, that was one of the pretend games I’d play
The Grayhound Station has been restored and is the home to Main Street Blytheville. It's on the historic list, such a great job restoring it. So many small towns in Arkansas and everywhere have changed so much over the years for one reason or the other. As many said I'm sure the Air Force base closing was a big reason sadly. My small town's downtown pretty much died because the interstate went through in the 70's forcing traffic out of downtown. We are not that far from the interstate and have businesses out there, mostly travel centers/truck stops which at least bring in tax dollars.
My family is from Blytheville (all passed away now) crazy to see you there! Dr John Quincy Elliott (my great uncle) and his dad, my great, great grandfather Dr. Frank Elliott of Blytheville owned a doctors office in town. The Elliott's are in Elmwood Cemetery. Is Dixie Pig still open?? I have memories of that bus station. Thats where my grandparents would pick us up when we came to visit!
I spent the better part of my childhood and teen years there, I remember the Golf hotel and Ritz theater that were on main street, went to Gosnell High School in the mid 70's, I use to live at Colters Clear Pool in Walker park during the summer, Blytheville use to be a beautiful small town. my first job was bussing tables at the Villa lol, Was shocked to see the Ritz is still there, I have a lot of good memories from there. From what I've seen Blytheville has turned into a 💩 hole, how sad.
At 12:99 that was a Greyhound bus station / depot. A VERY similar one is located in Minneapolis, now appearing as the First Avenue nightclub / concert venue where Prince made it famous as well as many others from the Minneapolis sound era of progressive punk, rock and roll and blues as well as other genres. The Greyhound station in Minneapolis was active in the 1920s-1930s to the 1960s.
I watch your videos every day! I live so close to dyers burg wish I could meet you! I can’t really travel right now bc of my job and toddler so this helps me imagine I was there lol. Thank you! ❤
My Father-In-Law and Mother In Law have lived in Blytheville, Arkansas since 2004.My Father In Law died in 2017. Mother In Law still lives there in the Base Housing they offer 55+ community. My husband (deceased 7 years ago),myself and our 5 kids HATED VISITING the Grandparents in Blytheville on Holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. As my kids got older, they begged us not to make them go to boring Blytheville. My husband began inviting his parents to come to our home 🏠 in Maumelle, Arkansas.
What a shame too see that town like that and those houses just left like that It makes me wonder why that happened a few shops closed well you see that anywhere you go but that's sad it's like the whole town has gone very strange . Brilliant video Lamont very interesting.Peace out Lamont ❤❤❤
Lamont I'm from London UK and love your videos. As someone who has only been US once I love these videos as you show a side of America I never see in other videos. It's fascinating to see. Keep up the good work I'm a fan of all your channels including your graveyard ones. My daughter walks in my room and says watching watching death again are we mum, not realising it's the history I'm interesting in not death lol. 😊😅
That '66 Rambler Ambassador under the tree is the exact model Steven Parent was driving out of the driveway of Sharon Tate's residence August 8th 1969 around Midnight. He was the first to get it from Tex Watson. The car belonged to his mom and it was a white one with black upholstery.
I am glad Lamont that you did that town my father was born there and this gave me some insight as to what my father and some of his family that lived there around 1920’s up to present day
Mississippi County Arkansas was known for its steelmaking second highest grossing steel manufacturing County in the US reduce cost Mississippi transportation down the river!
My parents had a huge satellite in the yard. It brought in so many channels. If you love buildings with the writing on them. You should visit Wabash, Indiana ❤
Watching this a month late. Hope you made it before sundown to Blytheville😂 anyway good job on the small abandoned town video. It was interesting and yes I do tip at Sonic. And I love all the old town architecture.👍👍
Hey coming to dburg...I live here...I am so excited...I watch you all the time...Elizabeth lansaw🎉 some folks call it dirty burg..I hope you make a video here❤❤❤❤
Hi Lemont good see you about , as you do these videos especially the older towns, some look like old movie sets or what they were designed as. Kind of cool to see the different deigns. Anyway glad tos ee you show different places, stay safe and cool hot here in Texas whew!
Hello Mr Lamont Thank you for stopping in my city of Blytheville, Arkansas. Come back anytime and I can give you real good tour. Safe travels. Like everyone comments good or bad about the town. My Name is Doc Spencer. Bless everyone
Well, I live in Blytheville, AR. I'm in the country towards the Missouri line. FIRST OF ALL, it is pronounced "Bly-vil." It is also known as "Bly-vegas." One reason the town has dried up, is because there used to be an Air Force base close by. It was closed inthe late 80s or early 90s and the military presence went away. I grew up in Southeast, MO and Arkansas was the butt of a lot of jokes. Now that I live here... it still is. When I got my Arkansas ID, all my female cousins became a little more attractive. LOL! That's right Blytheville, AR. Where the men are men and the sheep are nervous. (jk) My wife is from Armorel, AR. A 'suburb' of Blytheville. If she sees this, she is going to kill me. Thanks for spending some time in our little fly-over town. You seriously need to go to the twon of Pascola in Missouri. It is so infamous, it is in the Urban Dictionary. This was a cool vid. Thanks Lamont.
Thee Arkansas being a butt of jokes thing is really funny, considering that it is coming from MIZZERY.[ MISSOURI] I WOULD ESPECIALLY SAY SO, SINCE YOU STOLE LAND FROM ARKANSAS.
@@alexandercoffman8319 "Is that a bootheel in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" The same guy who stole the bootheel also smuggled ten pounds of ice cream out of a nudist colony. Ouch! LOL
My sister lived in Blytheville for years and when she divorced her no account husband she and the children move to another town, she said it was not because of the divorce but because the town was becoming a hot bed of drugs and drug dealers and she wanted her children in a safer environment. I know when we visited in the early 80s it was some what shady then.
I was unbsubcribed from you I just happened to see this one ... This is about 45 minutes from me , wished I knew you were here I definitely would come meet up had Lunch , I been watching you for years !! Love your Videos!
Lol, I use to run thru there and play pool at the pool hall on main Street, back in the 90s, i think it was called Playtime Billiards, but people in those parts pronounced it as you said, I was gonna text that to Lamont, but you beat me to it!😉👍
Love your videos, Lamont! The movie poster is for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. It’s a new movie coming out in September. It’s a sequel to the original. A lot of the original cast are in it!
I grew up 26 miles from Blytheville in Missouri. In the early 70’s, my parents bought a Pontiac Grand Prix at Carlock Pontiac in Blytheville. I saw the movie Grease In Blytheville when I was around 13.
Here in Wichita, Kansas the old Spaghetti Warehouse (restaurant) has the old" paint on brick" business advertisement. Faded paint, of course. The next time I drive through "Old Town" I will stop and snap afew pics and email them to you. #FunFact about you, Lamont, that is interesting.... your like for that vintage building paint. Thanks for the share! .... and stay safe out there!
Hey, I'm in wichita also! 😅❤ There's supposedly a book or something that lists all the hidden things in wichita. I wonder if there's more than the old spaghetti works building. 💜
You should do a video on Otto Warmbier, the American kid from Ohio who went on vacation to North Korea and was returned to the USA comatose on life-support. He was accused of "taking a political poster off the wall" and sentenced to years of hard labor...he never woke up and his family took him off life-support. True Crime Loser did an informative video on him years ago. RIP Otto Warmbier 🙏
My Grandfather was a Pharmacist and had a Drug Store in Blytheville, AR … I remember visiting him when I was very young … maybe four or five? I have a small snapshot of him in front of his Drug Store … on the glass … a strip at the top was painted dark blue with .. Hughes Pharmacy and he’s is standing in from of it! Of course he moved several times … came to Malden MO and opened A Drug Store in Dexter, MO. That’s where my dad met my Mom! He was a Soda Jerk … had the little paper hat … she came in and he waited on her … she ordered a Coke and Pimento Cheese Sandwich! My Mother lived with my husband and I and I was her Caregiver for 15 years before she died and she still loved that kind of a sandwich … I do too! 😁
Nice video Lamont as always love to watch your videos from far far away From Malta even my dad watches your videos on the tv internet anyway have a nice day take care !
I live in Northeast Oklahoma. I moved here in 1998. I started riding motorcycles in the Oklahoma/Arkansas area since 2002. Every year there are more and more places closing down and more and more housing condemned. I see places I used to eat, places I used to get gas etc etc all closed down.
You ever ride from Talihina, OK to Mena over Rich Mountain? Such a beautiful drive especially on a bike. I was born and raised in Mena. Still go back quite often seeing as my entire family is still there.
@@JeepGirl45 I've been all over that area. Saturday we went to Ozone for a burger then did 123 to 74 to Jasper then over Mt Sherman to Kingston then stayed the night in Eureka Springs
That's my hometown. I used to work at that Save a Lot when I was 19. It used to be a Piggly Wiggly before that. There's no jobs there anymore & crime is bad. Everyone keeps moving to Jonesboro.
The video was fine. I think of my dads hometown of Templeton Iowa wirh 300 people so the nearest town was Carole Iowa that was much larger or 30 miles away. I remember going around the neighborhood and seeing many ending houses. My dads house had a sheep farm across the street. I would hear baa baa all night.
Dang Lamont - I been watchin you forever - wish I knew you were here in my hometown. That car is an old AMC Rambler Ambassador---- you were brave walking around alone. Many murders have occured in this town. -- You need a guide -The Ritz is an old movie theater converted into a mini concert hall - very nice. The bus station is original.
Major Tom, you speak the truth. A few years ago the murder to population rate had Blytheville as the murder capitol of AR. My address is Blytheville, but I live out in the country.
One of my childhood best friends whom I’m still good friends with today was actually born in Blytheville back in 1980. So he was an 89’s kid in that town until he moved to Orlando into my neighborhood and we’ve been friends ever since.
It is cool to see you doing videos from my town. Not very far from here in north east arkansas. Yeah Bedtime used to be an up-and-coming small city when the Air Force base was there, but when they closed it. It began drying up Now poverty and crime are the name of the game there and if it wasn't for nucor And a couple of other steel mills over there with the absolutely nothing
If you come to Texas again around Arlington there is a town just south of Arlington called Waxahachie there is a house you might like to see! The Munster house! They do have tours but check their website for more information.
