I think the biggest problem Fast and Furious faced is the one that life dealt them and that is the tragic death of Paul Walker. You can dissect the action of all the movies in this franchise, the characters that were added throughout, and the plots that developed but the real anchor of the first seven movies is the relationship between Dom and Brian. After the loss of Paul, the movies lost an essential element that was irreplaceable. It's that simple.
I got into the campiness of Fast and Furious. The first one. But Fast Five is the reason why so many loved the franchise. It had a pretty good plot, decent pacing and the action was good. I stopped at Seven because it felt like closure. A touching tribute to Paul and seeing Dom and Brian go their separate ways. It just felt like an actual ending. Personally never felt the need to watch eight, onwards. Though Fast Ten looks interesting because of Jason Mamoa.
I have seen FastX, and they did try and fix the messes that was F8 and F9, but the action itself is just dumb imo, i didnt even enjoy it because it was too over the top. But the start of fastX was pretty decent, but for me it was just a massive decline over the movie
They have absolutely embraced how silly and ridiculous the movies are, and I love it. Idgaf if the X trilogy ends with them traveling through different franchises to help Frodo and Sam get the ring to Mt. Doom after battling Darth Vader and The Witch King while Jenko and Schmidt from the jump street movies are dancing at the entrance, I'll watch it.
Fast and Furious is like an all you can action buffet, depending on which one you want it can either be bad or just really the worse If you care about Brian and Dom so much, F&F 1-2, 5, 6,7 would be the ones to watch. If you actually like cars, respect the culture, yet having some American branding on foreign soil, Tokyo Drift is for you. Honestly among all 9 films, I have a whole lot of respect for Tokyo Drift because it is the only installment in the series where one gets to experience actual Car Culture without the underworld getting too much of a clusterfuck to deal with. A solid depiction of 90s Japanese street racing world, and nearly Initial D and Wangan Midnight vibes. Sometimes I wonder if this film should be called Fast and Furious, or maybe it deserves its own line because it's so distinctive from its cousins and siblings. It may even be more Fast and Furious than the next films after it.
I think it was the simplicity of it that attracted folks to it I understand the need to raise the stakes and practical effect But they did it way to far The movies were grounded in some levels of “realism” but eventually that was thrown out the window
@@EntertainTheElk to make money yeah but should've made it into another franchise, because the name "The Fast and the Furious" would have been nothing without the OG
The Rock being absolutely drenched in sweat is awesome. It shows how he's really not accustomed to that climate and that he's highly stressed. Nowadays, he probably has a clause in his contract that says his character isn't allowed to be sweaty period.
I’m about to rewatch the first 7 or so but I think 4 is aging better than 5 for me. You contradicted yourself by saying 5 had all the elements that made the series great and that’s why that’s when the series was born, but you said prior to that it didn’t have any street racing that the series was founded on so make it make sense. No disrespect though your video is well made and you clearly put a lot of time and effort into it but we’ll have to agree to disagree.
Personally, 2 Fast 2 Furious is a hilarious buddy cop film and is a total recommend. Fast Five is also one of the best action movies ever made, the bank vault scene being largely practical was so insane to see. Out of all of the films, those two are without a doubt the best
Born - and died. Don't get me wrong, I'll still watch every installment they throw out there. I'm a huge fan of 70s and 80s Kung Flicks like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan and I'm also all in on all the ridiculous 90s action flicks. So Fast and Furious is up my alley. But I do think the soul of the franchise died at 5.
The Fast And The Furious follows the plot of Point Break except one very big, key difference. I owe you a ten second car. And because of that, some other key differences become apparent…the biggest one being love interest Tyler wants nothing to do with leader Bodhi while love interest Mia is Dom’s beloved little sister and are together for the long haul.
Admittedly Fast X suffers from a long running franchise fatigue. It's a lot more toned down after Fast 9, feels like a step back in that department, the plot is just there to tie together less impressive action sequences. 7th movie had airborne dropped cars, 8th movie had a sub chasing the crew, 9th had them fly to space. 10th? A bad CGI drive down the dam. That's like winding it down 3 or 4 movies.
I remember when driving under a semi was kool! Even that bends the realm of belief, semis aren’t raised high enough… but now it’s just absolutely STUPID!!! where the chick will fly out of a crashing flipping car and land perfectly in another car jumping through the air 🤦♂️ Like WTF?!?!?? C’mon!
You have to lock your cynicism in the closet to accept this franchise. From day one the idea that a group of punks in Hondas would have truckers in 18 wheelers peeing their pants sets the pace. From there it just gets nuttier and nuttier. There is no reason to pick through it nit by nit.
I still can't get over Armageddon, big ass asteroid heading towards earth, and NASA recruits a bunch of oil drillers. And a chief oil driller, bossing NASA scientists around... 😂
I was never a true Fast & Furious fanatic, but it was somewhat entertaining. I stopped watching after "Furious Five" because it just became too unrealistic for me, but they're now on their 10th film so they must be doing something right.
The answer is it just embraced the awesomeness, and uses Role Playing Game Logic. If you think of the F&F franchise as a modern D&D game it all makes way more sense, and is 7times awxomer.
I saw the movie Grease for the 1st time in my entire life & I loved it! I was more excited about the race in that movie than these Fast & Furious movies 🤦🏽♂️
I think hands down the funniest character in this entire franchise is the Rock's Hobbs in Fast Five. That dude says the most outlandish lines and it's hilarious. He's also a perfect no nonsense foil for the team in that movie. Such a shame he had to become an almost main character and too watered down. I really enjoyed the overly serious way he delivered his lines in Fast Five.
I love the fast and furious but like on 9 it was getting werid going to the moon.. fast x had alot of combey in it to me.. They still did not kill Brian off that will be in 2 years from now.. But it did not show.. And Doms sister did not even play in it maybe 10 mins that was it.. to me sence Paul Walker really died i only like the ones with Paul Walker in them if not for him the show would never made it... alot of people think Paul walker was the 1 who made the fast and furious and im one of them...
I dunno I am sick and tired of people bashing these movies. Why can't it be fun escapism? Why can't an original IP play by comic book movie rules? Honestly we all outgrew the Need for Speed Underground era so it made snese to make them into spy racers. Also if you compare it to its direct competitor Mission Impossible these movies at least have a long running story. Having said that 8 and especially 9 were awful. X was actually really fun and good. Momoa killed it
There's 1-5... perfect ending. And then everything after...I'm just happy the themes arent anti-nationalist. Fast X is a masterpiece in a way, and would only be improved by having no dialogue. Just dont tell Vin Diesel - he takes it seriously.
I get that you probably arent a car guy. So I actually hate what they did. I liked the admittedly cheesy but still somewhat grounded look at street racing. While they had some technical mistakes in the first few films they were just there to add drama, like NOS exploding (it cant) and funny scene with Bryan playing with a laptop in the middle of a race at 140 mph. Etc. But you can see what they are trying to do from a stakes POV. Now they have went into fantasy, with endless nonsensical technobable and turning Dom into a mythical superhuman. Its ruined and I gave up on the whole thing after 5.
i heard he was supposed to return for 2 fast 2 furious and he asked for a bigger pay so instead of bringing him back they decided to replace him with tej instead. Lmao i do agree just watched the first f&f and "NOOO MONICA!!! was the funniest shit in the film.
Especially when you consider that even the goon who owned the Yenko Camaro in 2 Fast 2 Furious got to make a cameo comeback as a goon in Furious 7. (I believe he was the dude impaled by a tree during the mountain chase)
I've only seen Tokyo Drift as I had multiple recommendations for it and I was aware it kind of sits outside of the franchise to a degree, and despite thinking it's really not a very good movie I have a pretty big fondness for it; genuinely one of the most 2000s things I've ever seen and think it serves as a pretty good time capsule.
Tokyo drift was actually a car movie for people who like cars. It's the best in the series as far as car racing movies go. Fast 1 point break but with cars Fast 2 buddy cop movie with cars Fast 3 car movie entirely about racing Fast 4 drug running movie with cars Fast 5 heist movie with cars Fast 6-9 different stories that have nothing to do with cars but randomly here is a cool car that has superpowers.
Fast Five was the best ending where everyone drive off into the sunset with the money they stole but Furious 7 is seriously where it should’ve ended because Paul was gone and the ending was perfect for their family message but also because it left no loose ends because we saw how Han died and the aftermath to it.
If you watch till 7 you have a solid racing/action franchise that's just great fun at times. After that it felt more like a transformers movie without the transformers
I have always said that we need a F&F and Transformers crossover. Imagine Dom riding Optimus Prime and them both saying something Let's roll family. That would be cinema.
@@iplyrunescape305 BS... It all ends after Tokyo Drift, and totally ends after FF 4 >>>> And actually Tokyo Drift is one of the best from all the 4 movies >>>
hobbs and shaw makes more sense because of the protaganists being actually highly trained people, doing things that could actually happen instead of dom flying 20 feet into a windshield and not having a scratch on him.
You nailed it. Once the 6th entry was released, you could see the trend toward doubling down on the bigger, louder, and more bombastic aspects. It's such a shame since the 5th entry really knew what it was after the franchise couldn't really figure it out with each previous 4 entries.
Honestly, I think the franchise passed away with Paul Walker. The brotherhood between Brian and Dom was the heart & soul of this franchise. Without it, these films just feel empty and soulless. Part 8 had just enough "dumb fun" to be somewhat enjoyable, but 9 and 10 are just dumb without any of the fun... just awful.
The change was the departure of Brian O'Connor. It's the same reason why most people don't consider Tokyo Drift an Fast n Furious movie. Think about it. Brian was the main character though all 7 movies. Dom was a secondary character. RIP Paul Walker
In my opinion, the problem with the franchise isn't the films themselves, but the fact that Universal gave Vin Diesel too much control over it. After 2 Fast 2 Furious flopped critically, Universal believed it was because Dom wasn't in it, so they practically begged Vin to show up in Tokyo Drift. They not only gave him the rights to the Riddick franchise in return, they also made him F&F's producer, giving him free rein to do whatever he wanted with the storylines of both franchises, hence why starting with the fourth film, Dom was slowly replacing Brian as the central focus. The films being Vin Diesel ego trips is a common joke in the community, but from what it seems, that actually does seem to be the case.
I bet the day when F&F died is when Brian rides to the sunset in F7 (the perfect ending bc the saga woul've ended strong and it was a very touching tribute to Paul, probably the only moment when this franchise "family" concept felt authentic) or when in F9 Tyrese breaks the 4th wall telling how absurd the movie is minutes before crashing a car to a satellite (absolute jumping the shark moment).
Yeah, you're probably right about the day it died. And yeah, Tyrese breaking the 4th wall about how absurd everything is was definitely a choice. I guess that was their half-assed way of excusing them going to outer space?
Fast 5 is when the series died. Would've have been a more impactful series if they just stopped at 5, took everything they've learnt and developed a new franchise, focused on action, with ties to the original franchise. Now all we have is a series of movies that doesn't know what the hell it is or wants to be at this point.
Fast 5 is a really weird movie to me. It functions as both a finale to the franchise 1-5. And ALSO the opening film of a new franchise 5-etc. The most impressive thing is that it actually pulls this off!?
The first is still the best because of how grounded it is. The later ones (after 5, which was actually pretty good) are just preposterous when you remember these blokes were stealing DVD players before attacking submarines and tanks for the shadow government. Might as well be G.I. Joe at this point.
i am a kid of the 2000s, i grew up with need for speed underground. as such i love the first three movies and i think it's been downhill ever since. out of the trilogy i think tokyo drift is the best, with a story that actually _revolved_ around car culture and didn't just use it as the backdrop for a crime movie.
i liked when it was true to racing and realistic gritty street life at its core, and characters all had flaws and went through changes of thought. It was an action movie about cars revolving around Dom and Brian (and Roman) but after Paul passed they lost the entire core of the series. I think 2 fast 2 furious is the direction they should’ve gone. not to outlandish, some comedy, but still serious, gritty and mysterious
If this franchise became an anime, it'd be more believable. This seems something anime creators would do over the duration of their series. Something like Dragonball started simple then now it's totally different.
The newer F&F series movie plots and and reminds me of when I was 6 and was playing with my Hotwheels on my bed. I had these extravagant stories and now i can see they are coming to life!
A friend told me Fast and Furious last entries featured a supervirus, space, FBI, and ciberterrorism. I thought he was joking. Then I read the Wikipedia. I don't have the balls to watch these movies, too much.
That's why Fast & Furious became the worst because it was no longer about Street Racing, then all the characters died and they brought them back to life like Gisele's who fell from a high place and then was still alive. Han's is even more realistic because he has a Hologram in his car because he survived. this is the worst they ever went to the outside world with the Rocket Car WTF! Sean who became a Drift King and then suddenly became a Scientist. then Dom got superpowers I hope they bring back the old fast and Furious the more realistic one but I still watch the Fast & Furious Franchise I watched it when I was a kid but I hope they bring back the Racing in the Franchise
When I was really little, only the first 2 films were out and they were my favourite films of early childhood. I was so obsessed I would always run around pretending to be Brian's green mitsubishi from the first film. But now the franchise has turned into another mission impossible with Vin Diesel instead of Tom Cruise.
I've always hoped that the final entry in the series would harken back to the simplicity of the first few movies, focusing more on the street racing aspect, rather than huge spectacle and ludicrous action set peices and schizophrenic physics. Frankly, the series should have ended with Fast 7 though..
Fast Five was my entry to the series. My dad just said let's go see a movie have a guys night. I didn't know what to expect because I never heard of the franchise or saw a trailer. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I still rank it as the best in the franchise.
My theory is car manufacturers were getting pressure from lobbyists and the government to help stop street racing and from there manufactures let fast and furious know they can’t use their cars if the movie is centered around street racing. 1 2 and Tokyo drift had street racing feel but then it transitioned to action adventure with cars. Street racing was massive in the late 90s and then went over board in the 00s because of fast and furious and games like need for speed underground. Just my theory
Stopped caring after fast and furious 5, where’s my tuning cars, car racing and my girls in a bikinis. I watched Tokyo drift more than 10 times. Nowadays looks like transformers and I don’t like transformers movies.
