My great grandpa's whole family died in the Armenian genocide. He lived, escaped to Syria (which was under Ottoman control at the time), then fled to France, where many others fled too. Later he moved to Cuba, and then eventually Cleveland. He helped found a church called Saint Gregory of Narek in Cleveland, which he would give talks at pretty much monthly. After WW2 and the Holocaust, his whole thing became publically calling on Turkey to recognize the Armenian genocide, the way the Germans recognized the Holocaust. He said that it was in the past, and that we can move forward once it's recognized, but so long as they continue to deny it, the present will remain in the past. He died at 101 years old in 2007. I miss him, but I'm also sort of glad he didn't have to live to see what's happening now. He'd just be heartbroken.

France supports Armenia in part because there's a big Armenian population here, and also French from Armenian origin population. One of our most famous singers, Charles Aznavour, was of Armenian origin. Might have been related to a refugee wave around the time of the genocide, I'm not sure, but here we are, and now they're a huge voting block in France. The context of azeri's in Iran and outside is a bit complicated. As much as Azeri's identify themselves as Turks, they are most culturally related to the Other Iranian groups in the region and practice alot of Iranian cultural customs, not to mention that they were historically and currently are part of Shia Islam, and were the ones who Spread the faith throughout Iran. They were also an ethnic group that heavily involved, and Involves themselves in Iranian politics forming entire dynasties that opposed the Ottoman Turks, and lead alot of reformist political movements in history in the name of Iran. Even to this day, alot of Iranian politicians are Azeri, which includes Iran's current supreme leader who is half Azeri and half Persian, and is fluent in both languages. Azeri's are essentially a people who are considered to be half turk- half Iranians. The enmity that exists between the republic of Azerbaijan and Iran, stems from the fact that after the collapse of the soviet union and the rise of the Aliyev dynasty (the current dictators), the Aliyevs have essentially been whitewashing allot of the shared cultural History between Iranians' and the Azeri people, attempting to Turkify and purge any and all things associated with Iranians, even claiming some Iranian poets and historical figures as theirs and only theirs. Even religiously , they have suppressed the Shia faith and have been promoting Sunni Islam in their country. To add on top of that, the Aliyev's and the Azerbaijans have made no secret of their claim to the area's of Iran populated by the Azeri people living there. You can see why there is alot of resentment between the two governments. And to add an FYI, while the Azeri people of both countries want some sort of reunification, most Iranian Azeri's want the republic of Azerbaijan to join Iran, rather than the other way round which the Aliyevs in the republic of Azerbaijan want. Mainly because most Azeri people in Iran view Iran as their nation. And have been mainly against separatism, historically and currently. Despite this though, the government of Iran has still been very Itchy about this entire situation. There is more, I can talk about this situation, like how the area the republic of Azerbaijan exists was never called Azerbaijan, as historically the area was called Arran or Shirvan. The name change is only a recent thing, done under the soviets during WWII when they occupied the northern parts of Iran as a way to lay claim to the province of Iranian Azerbaijan. As you can see, the Aliyevs are using this to their advantage.

Armenia had been trying to distance itself from Russia lately, up to and including sending the first lady with an unofficial but symbolically important visit to Ukraine recently. The reason Russia didn't actually use its 'peace-keeping' forces or care about Azeri forces killing 8 Russian soldiers isn't just because they're weak right now, but because they actually want Armenia to suffer and, if Russia is lucky, even change its leadership to a more pro-Russian one. The reason they had their 'peace-kerpers' there in the first place isn't so much to keep the two countries from fighting, but more so to have more leverage in the region.

Y'know there were times when the Americans and Soviets cooperated during the Cold War... In 1957 there was a strange occurrence of an aurora around the Ural Mountains further south than usual... Due to the first ever large scale nuclear accident in history in Kyshtym Mayak... Soviets had a shit ton of gulag slaves working on their nukes with little care for safety precautions (between 1948 and 1958 over 17,245 got radiation overdoses and radiation seeped into rivers making people sick with radiation poison in nearby villages)... Shit ton of ppl got exposed to 570 milliSieverts when the yearly normal amount is 2-3... Many thousands of ppl got evacuated, farmers were told to kill their livestock and bury their crops and the government under Kruschev kept silent on it... Many people died with skin falling off and cancer and sickness... The US was aware of it due to interviewing someone in the immediate aftermath, and they kept quiet on it too... The Americans like the Soviets didn't want people to learn of the nuclear disaster and become panicked about the dangers of their cool new nuclear programs... The Soviets fortunately had a team of dedicated workers to clean up the radiation everywhere... Workers from the gulags who'd get awarded shorter sentences (or even pardons) and shorter lifespans as a reward for their work... These people were referred to as 'death squads' or 'death brigades' which says a lot about their future prospects after the clean up... Didn't clean up good enough though because in 1967 strong winds would spread radiation from Lake Karachay from the disaster and this would make a bunch more people sick with radiation poisoning... Bunch of villages got burned to the ground... For the CIA they were more interested in protecting the nuclear program than to make the Soviets look bad... In 1976 a biologist named Zhores Medvedev openly explained what happened and the US government worked to downplay what he was saying... Some fishermen in the area have reported catching fish with no eyes or no fins and staying there is still very much bad for your health... There's also this weird creature a woman showed up with known as the 'Kyshtym dwarf'... Supposedly a baby... Very weird... UFOlogists got ahold of it and disappeared... Anyway, I wouldn't suggest going to Kyshtym... Also in 2017 there was a plume of radiation sweeping into Europe from Russia, possibly due to another undeclared incident... Was supposedly relatively harmless, but far above the average amount... Also based on NGO soil samples this seems linked to the Kyshtym site, so it's possible they had a second nuclear disaster in the same place or something... Who tf knows, Russia isn't gunna say and the US if they know isn't gunna wanna talk about it probably...

But not in a million years will I accept that the side besieging and starving out the civilian population of an area is in the right. Not even if they got there of foul means in the first place - which it must be noted, many did NOT. If the Azerbaijani government were insisting that Armenia or the provisional government of Artsakh reinstate the properties that those other ethnicities were driven out from, while careful only to target military and governmental targets, and guaranteeing the rights of civilians who lived there, maybe I'd be sympathetic to the cause. Armenians in Azerbaijan had time to prepare, take their belongings and had decent conditions leaving. Azerbaijanis and also all other ethnic minorities in Armenia were taken out of their beds at night, put a gun to their heads and were told to walk in winter. They were hunted down by Armenian gangs and army on their way. You cannot compare the two. All Armenians had a home ready when they arrived, left behind by Azeris. A lot of minorities deported from Armenia however lived in refugee camps for years.

This was really interesting. Also, Geogia was kind of in the same place in 2008 as is Ukraine right now, where the self proclaimed republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia play kind of the same role as the east Ukrainian self proclaimed republics. The Russians invaded Georgia when Georgia tried to fix the problem with South Ossetia. It was however a little different in the sense that Georgia quite obviously was the agressor with regard to South Ossetia, because they went in quite firm with their army. All that said, Georgia mostly has the sympathy from Western Europe. I think a landing over the black sea in Georgia (not in Abkhazia though, because most of Georgia's coast is actually in Abkhazia) could kind of work. Maybe it's even more of a question from which harbour the troops should come, since Bulgaria is quite Russia minded, Romania is an odd country (albeit NATO). Maybe the best route is by Poland and Ukraine, I don't know.

For too long we tried to forget the genocide inflicted on them by Turkey for Turkey’s convenience. Even if we are to collectively recognise the Armenian genocide both in WW1 and now, Turkey will only continue to be two faced to the West anyway. Okay serious question: so the Armenians are christian majority people with not enough political allies, and treated badly by everyone around them, having to fight for their land. That sounds eerily familiar. Why doesn't Armenia just do an open call that they welcome every Kurdish immigrant from all across the world with open arms and declare themselves to be a national safe haven for kurds that are willing to form a joint representative democracy with equal rights and constitutionally mandated representation for them? Wouldn't that in just a generation or 2 make neo-armenistan one of the most powerful economic and military nation states in the area with real geopolitical pull? Armenia has 3mil people right now and enough potential land and natural riches to house way more and kind of become a consensual peaceful version of Isreal but for kurds and other oppressed Christian minorities in iraq, syria, iran, turkey and Azerbaijan. I mean of course it would be complicated economically if lets say 2mil people in those countries sold everything they had and migrated into a relatively economically small nation, but i cant imagine that really leading to a worse outcome in the long run than both groups of people are experiencing in their respective situations right now and for the past decades.

Why wouldn't Greece also support Armenia since they have a common distaste of Turkiye?

Don't you think NATO would side with Greece in a Turco-Greek bickering? Europe don't like Erdogan by the way.

@@kristoffervalen2935It would, but it's not a war between Turkey and Greece. The answer is Azeri oil; the answer is always oil.

Honestly I think, we need to stop trying out wars since we haven't cared about previous conflicts even current ones......😢 I would lean to religious channels to pressure peace over conflict. Even try multiculturalism approach. By the way, Arzeris founded Northern Alliance in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 soo i will not backstab them

Ramaddan is March to April next year !!! Go through Romania, then through Georgia. Georgia should look at it this way. If Armenia should fall, millions of refugees will end up in Georgia. And Georgia is going to be next.
