You just articulated one of the most ethereal parts of our human existence. Thank you, I have never been able to explain it with such precision. Hopefully that intrinsically human condition will win out over the self aggrandizement found within social media. Empathy and selflessness have become insults in many of our subcultures. If we want real change in our society. That is where we should start. The rest are symptoms. To find the cure we need to treat the source of the infection. Treating the symptoms is a losing battle. Until you stop the source, you never know when the infection will get beyond control.

I love this format. There's so much verve in Diana's presentation, and the difference in knowledge from Levi reminds me of early Brady Haran on Numberphile. When you're really knowledgeable about a subject it's easy to take for granted the long history of accumulated jargon and trailblazing discoveries, and so it's totally refreshing and accessible to have a video like this that brings the field back to really basic layperson stuff like "to accrete means to gather." Same exact phenomenon. It's the expansion or compression of the waves of light or sound that alters how we see and hear the objects. With sound waves it's a rising or lowering pitch depending on what direction it's moving in relation to us. With light waves the expansion or compression of the waves results in things getting a blue or red tint.

Is it bad when you asked why my first three thoughts were an Aurora being gravitationally lensed with a red shift to see… but hey that’s easy

Such an interesting topic I don’t fully understand but was captivated by your explaining of what was discovered and how it was possible.

I am interested. Could be a reflection on the other side of the event horizon. Like when Daniel Jackson saw himself in the Stargate SG-1 from the other side. Different colors means a different frequency and I hope they got it on video.

Absolutely zero news sources I've read have ever tried to explain X-ray bursts. They're always either "this mysterious scientific phenomenon" or "so everyone knows all about X-ray bursts, right? Okay, moving on", so I've never known what they were about. I had no clue it was so simple (relatively speaking, of course!). Thanks for laying it out so nicely.
