The dredge ship you see is the cutter suction dredge Hampton Roads. She has been working in the port for several years deepening the port for large container ships. They started a port expansion project in the late 2010s and are finished with the main project but keep finding parts they want to further deepen. When you have rival ports like Norfolk going to 56 feet so that the large ships don’t have to wait on tide and such, the port business is very competitive. With that said, the Port of Savanna has grown significantly and is now the 3rd busiest container port in the US. In addition to good port facilities, it had both good rail and road connections. Little wonder it has grown so much.

Way back in the early 90's when the Raddison was just built,my ex-wife and I took the kids for a few days to Savannah. We had a 7th floor balcony room and I loved sitting out watching the river traffic and tug boats!

I lived in Savannah for 10 years until the spring of 2021 - this was a cool way to see this. I use to fly my drone up and down the river as well. Got some great shots of the river at 400 feet🌴

Great video, am a native of Savannah, now living in NC. Have been to the port a number of times, and up and down the river with Captain Sam, I believe was his name. My grandfather was a retired Merchant Marine Captain, and during my HS years volunteered with the local Preist to pick up sailors that played soccer against the Savannah team to get off the ship and have some recreational time. I got to go along and was invited to tour a few ships. Those were the days.

I live in Savannah, so this was VERY interesting to me!! I see these ships coming and going all of the time (I LOVE to sit on that beach on the river at Fort Pulaski and watch these beasts go by!!), but I never get to see them approach the dock! VERY cool!!!

Made it to the end. I live 30 miles outside Savannah. Visit often. Fish and just joy ride the Savannah River often. One time near River Street one of these beasts passed us in our 20ft Bonita. Looks like they are barely moving in the video but, in our tiny boat the wake thats made from these are awesome.

I live about 34 miles from Savannah in South Carolina. I've always enjoyed watching large ships. This is the first video I've seen of a large ship entering the Savannah River and getting to their mooring at the pier. I'm impressed. I hear that the Georgia Ports Authority is planning on raising the deck of the Hermatige Bridge to allow even larger ships to pass under it. I am interested to know how engineers plan on that.
