It was honestly refreshing to get an episode focused on a character such as Gwen. It was great to see just a normal non-hero life for a member of the main trio!
@@TinChipmunk probs just use gray matter to solve a bunch of world problems. Also try to figure out the codes and practice with the aliens. (Mainly with Diamondhead as he’s my favourite)
Pretty sure Ben isn't responsible for her being in a wheelchair, since Matt Wayne said that Emily was still just mad about the "left at the top of the radio tower" thing and doesn't genuinely hate him.

No wonder Gwen's in college by 17. Knowing her, and the fact that she's only moonlighting as Lucky girl during college, she'll probably graduate before her 19th birthday. I think Gwen and Emily is what happens when you have a supportive friend with way too much on their plate, while Benn and Julie is when that same person isn't supportive. Because they did get along during the Highbreed arc, before Ben's ego got inflated.
I am dying to see a full breakdown of the "Prisoner 775 is missing" next week. It is one of my favorite episode of the entire Ben 10 franchise. And the final scene of that episode always make my said heart to beat faster and faster every time I see it .
This Episode definitely made the characters feel more realistic and relatable with all the school work, and that scene with the beautiful piano music while the Trio battle Animo was awesome 👌👽
Yes! Love this episode! Love focusing on the other protagonists which really ground the world of this story. Seeing Gwen struggle not only when she's with Ben and Kevin in a typical villain of the week fight, but also in her day to day life because it reminds us that these characters are still kids with normal lives and this episode was a nice reminder of that plus filled with sweet moments such as Gwen wanting to help Kevin with his GED
As someone who was forced to leave school young, Kevin at 17 feeling like he threw away his chance really hits hard. Alot of people don't realise how expensive and time consuming it is just to get an equivalent of what u get from finishing school when your young, and even then its looked down on as a lesser form of education.
It's really nice to see the daily life of a character in Ben 10. What do they do when they're not having to deal with a super villain? I'd love to have seen what Ben, Kevin, or even Max does daily.
This is one of my favorite episodes. It was nice to see what Gwen’s life is like outside of saving the world. The plot also reminds me of Code Lyoko and how the team was trying to balance school and save the world. Their actions also had repercussions. One example is that in one episode, they got detention for skipping class to fight Xana.
Y’know, episodes like this really make the world and characters of Ben 10 feel less “artificial”. And I appreciate that. Way better than them constantly being on the look out for danger in every episode and occasionally walking around on completely vacant streets or eating in some boring diner called “diner”.
@@cliffturbo2146 come on, they get their smoothies at an establishment called "Mr smoothies" for your sake Albeit to be fair, that's kind of a catchy brand
Just want to note that the red shirt is also a long sleeve. Maybe the red shirt is a long sleeve form of their uniform. And it's not mandatory to wear both. (Also note that Gwen's friend wrapping it around her neck is long sleeve too)
This always been one of my fav episodes in the original series. Gwen is such a relatable character to me so seeing an episode where we see her in normal scenarios feel refreshing,
A personal favorite of mine for Ultimate Alien. I do enjoy getting to see more of the heroes home life. I always wished we got to see more of Ben, Gwen and Kevin's parents. This may be my favorite Gwen centric episode on the basis it's the one that makes me appreciate Gwen the most. It was also nice to see Animo be treated as a respectable threat again.
Since Animo was in the Null Void for a while, I assume he wants his mutants to be at least equal to one of those Null Guardians. Like, I would assume that he sees those things as one of the best things to strive for and whatnot and thus he made his frogs stronger. Plus, I like to assume those frogs have at least a little alien DNA from one of the aliens in the Null Void.
23:40 My head cannon is that’s what Ben was doing when Sunder attacked him in singlehanded. He attacked them on the date, Ben turned into spidermonkey to get her to safety, webbed her to the radio tower as Sunder started chasing him and that’s where we came in as the episode started.
@@yassomesho4554 No, they had recently broke up in the Eunice episode. Then they comeback in future episodes, they broke up off screen in the first time
@@guto5285 Bruh she literally appeared in the episode where his hand was cut off and she acted like nothing was going on. Also the episode where Ben's hand was cut off was back in AF, not even close to Eunice's debut.
I actually love the idea of Emily or Gwen having a best friend in general introduced in this episode and I’m a bit sad it wasn’t brought back given the potential it could have. Depending on the episode, Gwen is played up as more or less of a workaholic, but a lot of the time it seems like her academic studies, magic studies and villain research are huge facets of her character and how she feels useful to the trio. I think it would be really interesting to highlight Gwen’s workaholism more, having her basically neglect self-care and relaxation in any capacity and needing to have a friend who looks out for her in that department, someone who she relates to but has a more laidback attitude towards it. It’s such a small detail but Emily bringing Gwen food this episode knowing she’d missed meals, and the implication that this is a trend, was really sweet. I’m always down for a supporting character like that who helps better characterize our leads and I think for all its good qualities UAF is sometimes lacking in that department, tho we absolutely have a great supporting cast. Also, not especially relevant, but I really like that they made Emily a wheelchair user. Always nice to get disability representation
Someone who isn’t part of the hero alien fighting circle nor absent from it for being a family member is a nice touch. Emily is a normal person who Gwen does, or at least did, normal things with. Doing homework, hanging out, talking about school, family, boys etc.
This episode really makes you appreciate Gwen with how she goes about her life when she isn't out fighting evil aliens. Honestly they should've kept the storyboard of Kevin grabbing Animo, it made a lot more sense than Ben doing it.
Oh yeah Gwen’s BFF remember her? She talked about her for like ever. And Ben definitely had a date with her prior. Even if the timeline may not line up if you think about it, having Spidermonkey and also not dating Julie. Edit: Don’t get me wrong, I wish we saw more of their friends. Just normal teenagers. Like does Ben have any friends except Gwen and Kevin at this point? And any that are just normal at that?
She took the school bus. Which honestly if I had Gwen's power set I would not be doing that I would totally teleport into the classroom a regular basis.
Animo did Ultimate first if you think about it. He's "evolving" animals into things that they would or could be with evolution. Except for resurrecting a dinosaur and a mammoth. He can quite literally bring things to life that have been dead for years.
I kind of wish we saw an episode with each of the trio in their every day lives outside of heroing. It'd be pretty refreshing to see how they balance both. At least we get Gwen's perspective
@@parkercomley8126 i am pretty sure ben dropped high school (which makes his worries from the first episode ironic in hindsight). kevin i think he works in a workshop
@@ianr.navahuber2195 isnt it stated on the wiki that bens school just give ben a pass so that he can save the world in ua and then in ov he wasn't at shool anymore.
Oh a full breakdown on a Gwen episode, been a lil minute lol. But yeah, i love more relative slice of life episodes in shows like these, ever since i was a kid. Kind of a new setting, new characters outside core cast and a new perspective on a character weve known for years but get to know even more
I also wonder if the null void affected his ability to get a drivers license. With him being a criminal him using a forged license would make sense. I imagine he would get an offical license after this episode.
I am impressed by how the frog in this episode did not have red eyes. At this point in the franchise, unless you came from the Aunor system and you are a bad person, your eyes must be red, so it is a nice change.
28:00 In most cases where a character adjusts their weapon, I usually don't think that it's to "get it to work". Here, I would argue that Animo was increasing the Mind Controller's signal strength/range to get a Mutant Frog to him as soon as possible. It might not have been on that setting due to it requiring more energy or because it may have still been in an experimental stage. This is, however, just what I think is going on. For all we know, this instance had Animo think that he could use the device on a lower setting and still easily win.
This is definitely one of, if not _the,_ best filler episodes in Ben 10, in my opinion. I had actually forgotten a lot of the Ben and Kevin stuff because I was so engrossed with the Gwen stuff, before watching this I only remembered the Wildmutt tease and that's it. This is definitely in the top 10 for me, probably number six if I had to place it now, not quite top 5, but close. I'm glad it got the full breakdown treatment, it deserves it.
For the uniform, it seems like the students have a base white dress shirt that they wear a red sweater over. The girls seem to mostly either not wear the sweater or wrap it around their neck like Emily
I used to not like this episode due to it not having much hero time but I think this is one my favorite episodes because of that. I love seeing the heroes doing normal things and dealing with juggling hero time, me time and their other responsibilities. This episode is one of the best
After all the recent Gwen centric episodes being quick reviews, which honestly were few of my favourites like Time Heals, In Charm's Way I was worried this was gonna be a quick review as well. Thank God this wasn't. Gwen is my favourite character in the Ben 10 series, especially her UAF counterpart
This episode alongside the one where Ben's grounded and Kevin has to fight the highbreed alone for a while always made me want an episode of just kev Even if it was just him hunting down parts for his car or tracking down old scores only to let it go or go even go an apologise to that guy he nearly paralyzed for 5 quid in ult keV ark
Also, for those wondering, the math problem doesn't seem to be solvable. At first glance, it seems to be one long part of an equation that needs to be simplified and then divided by the second part of the equation. Order of Operations could be used, but the problem with the first part of the equation cuts off with a multiplication symbol. At first, I though it was the variable, "x", but with the way Gwen writes out the rest of the equation, it looks to be a multiplication operation symbol.
Animo’s getting all his materials from his RU-vid Channel, where he uploads weekly progress updates on his new inventions and members-only streams of his schemes. “Welcome, everyone, to Kingdom Animolia, where today we’ll be taking my new batch of giant frogs for a walk!”
the part where you're ragging on the characters reaction to Kevin's knowledge, knowledge isn't some RPG stat "big number go big" it's knowledge in fields, Kevin has a lot of knowledge on mechanical work and telltale signs left as residual of their use. It's a surprise he has high levels of deductive reasoning though knowing his background it makes sense it was just the first time it was used in such a way. Schoolwork covers all sorts of fields of knowledge and while kevin would know math and most if not all sciences history and language arts is something he might struggle a fair bit with. on the algebra part, it's very simple just long so more tedious than difficult. it's just applying PEMDAS and breaking it down bit by bit, though the equation's not complete to really solve it. the part we do see is just making big numbers with multiplication that are subtracted only to be hit by a positive big number multiplied by X so that side of the equation is probably just a small number like just a glance I think if that side was just equal to 0 X would equal 3 or something. you're math is off, numbers with variables are never combined with ones without the same variable (60-192-4488-11216+5329X)=(-16836+5329X) is that side simplified (though mental math probably got something wrong)
I love how Kuro is just casually wearing this wig and mustache, he doesn’t mention it or anything, nobody in the comments mentions it, it’s just...there
I think the school uniform is mandatory, but flexible. Like, the teachers understand that some students gets comfortable without the red top, and they simply let it be. Since stereotipically , in America, male students are the ones who mostly care about things like school rivalries, in the episode all the boys wear the complete uniform, while the girls only wear the shirt and the skirt (with of course the exception of Gwen being Gwen). I dunno, i just think it makes sense.
ok so Kevin mentions how he wants his car to be water proof several times throughout the series and I thought there was going to be a big pay off with that and they never do anything with it lol but I guess Kevin does everything proof his car in omniverse
Some schools have a uniform but are a bit more relaxed about it. Like yes there is a official full uniform, but some parts of it are more optionol, so maybe the Red Shirt is simply optionol and they dont HAVE too wear it.
I don't want to take away from any of your other content but God damn it Algebra 2 With Kuro might be one of the greatest things you've ever done I'll take some more of that please!!
I can't remember if I posted this on another video or not, but I'd love to see another member of the crew do a breakdown of Danny Phantom. It won't go on for as long as the Ben 10 Breakdown series, but it's only fair since both of them are important to 5YL.
Enjoyed seeing the side of Gwen's everyday outside the norm, Kevin should've got one too, and if frogs were gonna eventually evolve into what animo's did, I think they'd be the new apex predator lol. Looking forward to the next episode of Algebra 2 with Kuro
Kuro: "They're Dr. Animo's mutant frogs, I don't think they deserve that level of strength". Hate to be that guy, but frogs are actually pretty damn resilient and strong in their own right. Certain types can be frozen solid and slow down their metabolism to survive, others have impressive regenerative abilities not to mention the already impressive leg strength to achieve their high jumps. Some are poisonous due to specified diets and are lethal to most creatures. In addition, there exists a species known as the hairy frog (Trichobatrachus robustus) that lives in Central Africa. What makes it special is that it's able to break its own finger bones at will and USE the shards as weapons to defend itself, and is later able to heal the damaged tissue moments later. So I wouldn't write them off as just your general minions of Animo, if he had access to the right ones, they can be formidable foes. And also, I do wonder (and I'm not trying to start any fights for those who suffer from physical handicaps, let me make that clear), what if Emily found the Omnitrix and the device did what it did? It's been stated several times that it turns the user into the most physically fit member of the species (evidenced by Bullfrag looking drastically different from most incurseans). Would that mean she'd be able to walk without the need for her wheelchair?
You know, as awful as it would be if Ben putting her at the top of a radio tower was what ended up leaving Emily in a wheelchair, it's still _really_ bad if Ben left a handicapped person at the top of a radio tower.
Honestly the former seems to be more and more possible if you think about something. Why would he take a disabled person to the top of a radio tower? Even if he wanted to fly her around (somehow). Why a radio tower and not a big hill or even somewhere nicer then a radio tower?
YESSSS this episode got a full review IT'S WHAT SHE DESERVES. This one and Catch A Falling Star are my 2 "I hope they get one but doubt it", 1 out of 2 so far, great.
20:48 maybe the models got mixed up like in monster weather where Brad and Shaw was at the Shag Carpeting concert except instead of a background character it’s an actual character with dialogue
I like Gwen in UAF a lot, so I loved seeing an episode focused on her and her daily life. I don't know why but I get really excited about characters having certain abilities and being recognized or praised for them. I hate when they're forgotten and never shown again. I enjoy seeing Ben's photographic memory, fighting skills in human form, Kevin's technical knowledge, and Gwen's overachieving life. Gives more depth to them. I feel like Gwen is really underappreicated even by the writers a lot of times. I hate it when they just nerf her when she's actually pretty powerful and a skilled and smart fighter. She deserves more love. Also, I did enjoy her friendship with Emily. It was sweet.
I didn't even notice until just now that Gwen's brother is never seen or even mentioned in an episode centered around her life outside of heroing, the writers forgot about him that badly.
This episode is one of the most memorable for me. I watched it when it first aired when I was a child. I think the piano music really stuck with me throughout my life. I only really remember the last bit of the episode. It’s Nice to feel that nostalgia
I feel like Ken Tennyson could have been the new grampa max. He could have been a plumber in training who always seems to have just the right gadget for the scenario.
I loved this episode, it was pretty great to see Gwen's perspective and her school life. Also, rewatching this episode sparked a "resentment" toward Natalie.
@@guillaumegrignard7437 I mean, not liking her character. I love Ben's parents and Gwen's dad. But Natalie kinda sucks. She's not awful or anything. It's just I would never want to be around her.
@@ItsKeysama Her performance isn’t really high energy. It’s more like a worn down person (I can hear Romana III in her voice though). The closest we get to her with a fleshed out personality with interests is the start of the episode where Animo sells mutant eggs.
Gwen was drawing attention from the frogs in that fight. Considering the difficulty Ben and Kevin had with them, Gwen just being an additional, untouchable target may have been the only reason they made it through
Kuro, you can be invulnerable without being strong enough to back that up. The Worst is invulnerable and is barely stronger then a human so Cannonbold having higher defence then attack power is plausable.
I absolutely love your breakdowns of Ben 10. Even though I've been having a really rough year, the content you make inspires me to keep going. Thank you so much.
Seeing a normal life isn't something yoi usually expect from ben 10 most of the time, so this truly felt refreshing, as always I'm glad for more breakdowns on the channel Glad to see another video
Ben 10 isn’t really known for having characters that are disabled so to see that kind of representation is really nice, and I do have to give them props for not making it feel forced or being too in your face about it. Also I’m pretty sure the name of this episode is supposed to be in reference to the famous song by Kermit It’s Not Easy Being Green
Kuro. I think you misunderstand the point of school uniform for private schools so ill try to explain it to you since I used to go to one. and I’ll be using Gwen’s school as an example. The complete uniform consist of the red sweater, the shirt, and the pants sometimes you are given a tie or bowtie either one that is handed to you. (My school we had to use a tie). now you might be confused why some characters have the red sweater on and some don’t but the simple explanation is it’s their preference no one is forced to put on the red sweater. As long as you come to school in the assigned school uniform that you most likely bought (I did) and nothing else … the swearer is completely optional. Some might choose to put it on to hide stains in their uniforms if they forgot to wash it(i was guilty of that) but apart from that the red swearer is optional. And the only required dress code is that you wear the school uniform. In some schools the uniform is included with the school fee(mine was) so if you come to school in something other than that you could get a warning or sent home. Sorry i went on this long tangent I hope you have a better understanding of how private school uniforms work now
This actually was a good episode but yeah a shame we didn't get a Kevin one. Then again Kevin background abd family has beeb changed so many times the writers were probably not keen in making a definite retcon that would stablish what the heck is really going in with him outside of saving the day.
