I remember a campaign were a White Dragon was under a curse that kept her polymorphed as a young girl. An attempt to introduce her to art led her to swiping all the glitter she could find and later covering her sleeping quarters with it. Her attempts to lie her way out of it reminded me of a Monty Python sketch.

@Deathcoldan The intelligence of an ancient white dragon in the 5e Monster Manual is 10, and an adult white has 8 int. 10-11 is said to be average human intelligence, which bears out in the humanoid stat blocks at the back of the MM. So any "high school graduate" equivalent is probably of equal or greater intelligence than that dragon with over a thousand years of experience. That said, there are 2 stat blocks for humanoids in the MM with lower intelligence than the ancient white dragon: the berserker, coming in at 9 int, and the tribal warrior, coming in at 8.

@@TheSunStudio1 would still beat most creatures it came across. the number of creatures that could beat it is low, especially in it's native habitat. a team of frost giants and frost wolves could definitely take on a younger dragon easily, but it will still require them to find and catch it first which is a completely different struggle

@@zionthedragon8866 I agree. I mean I added them to my campaign, and my husband even got a lucky roll his familiar is the Obsidian dragon. The way I explained it while keeping it fair and balanced. The obsidian dragon Raylor was banished by the rest of the gem dragons. And it wasn't over a difference in opinion. He goofed and as a punishment he was forced to relieve his life from an egg. So, all of his stats are that of a young copper dragon with his memories intact. He can only be used once per day for twenty minutes, because he's a baby and not an assassin like he once was. I wasn't expecting the lucky roll, but its been fun and interesting all the same.

@@silentasher2390 eh, obsidian I wouldn't count as TRUE gem dragons, much in the same sense as purple and orange for chromatics, and steels and iron for metallics. Poorly written, and only exist to fill a gap. Obsidian and steel are by far worse, a wanna be "edgy" little kid's fan fiction. Also, I didn't think a intelligent race counted as a race to be a familiar for.

@@zionthedragon8866 Well I put it on a list of possible familiars as a joke. I never thought he would actually get it. So, I relented albeit grudgingly since I like an idiot made the list. Which is why I added the restrictions, because he is not a true blue familiar. He's toying with my husbands character. So, the spell didn't truly work, but he is leading him on. It was the most likely scenario since he is very intelligent. They are always verbally sparring, and there are times when I purposely flub a roll since I play the dragon. To signify that he is either bored, sleeping, or just wants to see what happens from the sidelines. Yeah its a crappy thing to do to a first time player, but I wasn't prepared for what might happen. So I tried to make the best out of an unknown factor. And it's very rare for an intelligent race to be tethered to another, but this dragon likes screwing with people.

@@arcangleGabriel Compared to other dragons it is yes. But its not so stupid that it can't understand abstract thought. Which is something plenty of animals can to at least a simple extent. Such as realizing if you do something and get a reward for it you generally remember how to do it again. I'm in agreement with Peteman on this. I think they're plenty capable of thinking, they just prefer to take the brute's way of dealing with most things.

@@MrSylvandragon Maybe you should take another look. The ancient white dragon has the highest int of any white dragon: 10. The stat blocks in the back of the monster manual assign commoners the same intelligence. There are only two stat blocks in that section with lower int: berserkers at 9, and tribal warriors at 8. Literally everything else is 10+. However, that said, even baby whites have higher intelligence than your typical beasts, so I think you could easily get away with giving them the same kind of cunning as a wolf or some kind of cat.

Think of it this way, there is only One type of dragon. Once they get old enough they can shape change. Or they learn the Spell: Baneful Polymorph, becoming what they Want to look like and reshape the forest animals around them.

We killed an adult white dragon in a single turn each player. We're a 4 player party. It was sad for the dragon. It didn't even get to use it's saves

Elijah Naney I actually much prefer the Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon it’s a much better fusion than Ultimate in this case 2 heads are better than 3

@@afont13 The only use for the Ultimate Dragon is for the Alternative Ultimate Dragon because it gives it an extra attack. But the Twin is the best IMO.

Jason Dossett Lol that basically, also if you remember the silver dragon video, the way metallic dragons act in the presence of a chromatic dragon they can kill is absolutely “chilling” and scary AF, so definitely genetic memory. Like how a lot of humans intrinsically dislike or even fear snakes, spiders, and the dark.

Here's my understanding to try and rationalise it: If a White knows a Silver is in the area, they will try to avoid it, but if they are confronted they WILL fight. Like they avoid a fight if they can, but if a fight is inevitable they WILL fight.

@@austindiver9267 no, not in d&d's case, it's a fixed magical inherent nature of the dragon, and the dragon rarely can have it's alignment altered. The closes is making a lawful neutral, and a evil one neutral, EXTREMELY rare cases to make them the complete opposite in case of the player. But in D&D the dm can always make his own lore, or ret-con it if he wants.

I'd model it after Aqua from Konosuba. Have it follow the party around in human form mooching off of them and try to take all the credit for everything they do. Like, "we all you only succeeded capturing the bandit leader because I, the Great and Powerful Dragon Smolax, was there to help." while it was actually outside making a snowman out of his frost breath the whole time, or at the tavern serving the coolest, frostiest ale to everyone there (on your tab of course).
