My desk setup also has a keyboard tray. While it was almost in the way (2mm space to spare) my desk had a different problem: the weight :P . My desk sagged down a bit tooo much :P . As for the pedals: I always experienced problems with pedals, because my floor is a hardwood kind. The Fanatec pedals stayed in place as much as the G-pedals: It worked for a while until the rubbery pads started collecting dust. They have been mounted angled backwards ever since (to resemble bus and truck setups a bit more) and fixed to a piece of wood that hooks over the wheelcross of my deskchair so that they can't run away :P .

You shouldn’t be attaching a direct drive wheel to a desk in the first place. Yes you can but no you should not. If you’re buying a direct drive wheel you should have a stand setup. There is a cheap but good and portable stand and seat. Next level racing has good ones. Don’t suggest people to buy a new desk. Buying the 8nm boost is so when you’re drifting and sliding you can still feel the bumps in the road. A street car with power steering only has about 3nm of force in the wheel. A real life drift car has typically 7-12nm of force so the upgrade is for those wanting to see what it feels like in a real car. The stock 5nm force peaks while sliding and you don’t feel any of the details in the road while drifting. The 8nm is for more fidelity. Not just for more weight. With 8nm force you can set the wheel base settings high but in game low and it won’t be super heavy but will still have high torque for transitioning while drifting and will be able to have those torque spikes when you hit bumps while drifting or sliding. All the cons in this video relate to having it mounted to a desk but you still are telling people to get a desk. A desk heavy enough to maintain the force of this wheel is gonna be the same cost as some full cockpit setups. Most on the low end are only 250-350. If you are wanting to upgrade to a direct drive you should have a cockpit setup or stand before you get the direct drive. I have a csl dd qr2 with the 180boost 8nm upgrade. WRC Xbox rim. Shifter handbrake and the csl inverted v3 pedals. This works just fine with the gt lite portable foldable seat and stand from next level racing. Hopefully this information helps someone 🎉

Long story short, you have a desk and you hate the wheel because of that and then you play Forza Horizon, a game which doesn't even need a fancy wheel such as the Fanatec and just casually say 8nm isn't needed. Play a racing sim, not mario go kart if you want to enjoy the wheel and it's full benefits. Also, more nm means better detail on the car's behaviour, not just the strength of the wheel.

SPEND the money and get the 8nm! There is a difference between 5nm and 8nm. You feel more of the road surface and what's happening under the car than you do with the 5nm. The 8nm doesn't add much to the max torque of the wheel, but definitely will boost all the other small effects from the road surface. You can feel curbs a lot better with the 8nm also. The 8nm isn't there to rip the wheel out of your hand, it's there to enhance what's already great. And boy does it. Money well spent. Just get the 8nm CSL DD with the WRC wheel and Fanatec will send you 2 180 power supplies. You then have a backup or you can sell it. Also the Next Level Racing Wheelstand 2.0 works awesome for a desk setup. It will tuck under your desk, and you can move it if you want to. It's pretty heavy actually with everything attached to it. But it's super sturdy and doesn't move at all, and it has a lot of adjustability to it. The tray for the wheels of a desk chair is ingenious. I run the Fanatec CSL Elite Pedals V2 with the stiffest brake pedal I can get, and the wheel stand with my Secret Labs chair doesn't budge when I get on the braked hard. Best $235 I spent. And plus you can just get the seat add on later if you want to from Next Level Racing.
