What They Got Right and WRONG! USA Today TenBest Roller Coasters (2024) 

Steel Vengeance and Velocicoaster are missing from the list. I haven't ridden the latter, but still: WTF?

Sober up…..not a single Cedar Point coaster? Top thrill 2? Maverick? Millennium force? Steel Vengeance? The giant dipper is better than those 4 rides?

Ayy I see you got the phantoms revenge in the intro from kennywood. Kennywood is my hometown and I don’t really see kennywood get featured in videos so when I see it I be really excited and happy that more and more people get to see it. This is around the 3 or 4 RU-vidr I have Said this to.😂

Giant Dipper is an interesting pick. I've said it for years, it's the best and most well maintained classic woodie I've ever ridden. I honestly don't know how they do it and it must cost a fortune especially since it's a seaside woodie. I hope you get to experience it one day, it'll surprise you. Having said that and removing the location and historical significance, if you put G-Rider and G-Striker up against G-Dipper I'd take the first two any day of the week.

Fury325 is amazing I rode it after they fixed it and earlier in May 2024.

I have no basis upon which to judge your list. I've only gone to Cedar Point and Geauga Lake, which is/was local, over the last 50+yrs

I haven't even ridden Giant Dipper yet and I already know that it wouldn't even be in my top 10, twenty, or even thirty for that matter.

Having ridden Giant Dipper it is an amazing wooden coaster but shouldnt be anywhere near a top 10 list unless its for seaside amusement park rides. Its incredibly smooth for being a 100 year old coaster and gives surprising amount of air time

I'm betting money is the reason for the placements of their top ten, not actual reasons

Their list is ridiculous, especially with Phoenix. You are so right. It has got to be the most overrated coaster ever. It's good, but I don't think it's even the best in the park. I think Twister is better, and by a very wide margin. Phoenix doesn't make my top 100, and I think I would put Giant Dipper over it if I ever get to ride it. My rankings on the rest: 8. Mako 7. Wildcats Revenge (guessing--I haven't ridden it) 6. Phantoms Revenge 5. Fury 325 4. Voyage 3. Pantheon 2. Iron Gwazi 1. Lightning Rod (based on my 2022 rides)

Giant Dipper is a very good old woodie, but it's not 1 of the 10 best wood coasters, and the Coney Island Cyclone should probably have its place if the historical significance is the reason GD got that place. Cyclone is also a little bit better of a ride in my opinion. Phoenix is by far the best wooden coaster I've ridden, but I've never been on Voyage or El Torro, which was closed when I went to Great Adventure. It wouldn't put it above Iron Gwazi or Mako, which are my 2 favorite coasters from a pure ride standpoint without taking theming into consideration.

The Giant Dipper isn't objectively one of the top 10 coasters, and on May 17, I was 1st in line for it's 100th anniversary, so I love this coaster!

I think it’s because parks need to submit one coaster to represent them, hence why you don’t see multiple coasters for one park. I guess CP and other parks didn’t submit anything.

Phoenix vs Giant Dipper is actually a pretty tough decision, having ridden both. Giant Dipper has a better mix of forces, including some strong airtime and some of the best laterals I've experienced. I personally say it was the world's best coaster for 65 years, not being dethroned until the hyper coaster era (I'm ignoring trains in that legacy ranking, that's why I say it's a tough call today). But top 10 in America today? I don't think so.

It's a weird list. If you were to try and assess some kind of underlying bias (other than that the list is clearly focused on American coasters) I'm not sure what it would be. If you just said the writer wasn't very familiar with coasters and just picked popular ones that came up on Google searches you'd assume the list would have multiple Disney and Universal coasters as well as Millennium Force and Coney Island Cyclone. But that's now what this list is at all. It seems there might be a bias in favor of Pennsylvania and the surrounding region because even for as good of a collection as the state has they still seem a bit over represented for how small this list is. But then if that's the issue it would seem they threw in Giant Dipper randomly to help the west coast feel included without giving it much thought. I honestly can't figure out how someone comes up with this particular list. Think about it. Who knows enough about coasters to include Fury 325, Phoenix and Wildcat's Revenge but doesn't think to include Velocicoaster? And I'm not even saying what the order ought to be. It's just weird to have forgotten that when more obscure (by general public standards) coasters were included.

I remember a few years ago they put Mako at number 1 above the likes of Fury 325 and I think Steep Vengeance made that list whatever year it was. I've never ridden Mako and I'm sure it's amazing but Mako over both Fury and Steel Vengeance (which didn't even make the list!?!?!). Now it's number 2 and Phoenix is number 1? I've always found this list to be very odd. Almost like they put a bunch of coasters on a dartboard and whatever numbered darts landed on whatever coaster was up there determines this list. Sheesh...

The USA today rankings were garbage, clearly half the people who voted live in Pennsylvania. Top parks and top coasters both leaned wayyyy PA heavy

How I would rank them: 1. Iron Gwazi 2. Lightning Rod 3. Fury 325 4. Pantheon 5. Voyage 6. Wildcat's Revenge 7. Mako 8. Phantom's Revenge 9. Phoenix 10. Giant Dipper I will say you had me nervous that they picked horrible coasters. The top 8 are all in my overall top 25 (591 credits). Interesting nothing from Cedar Point. Giant Dipper is better than you think.
