That’s not the most common reason why most travelers get Bali belly. It is because most travelers are ignorant of the fact that a lot of small independent eateries in Bali get their vegetables locally grown with water that is contaminated with home fertilizer (guess what that is) and a lot of small restaurants and Homestays wash those vegetables with the same contaminated water instead of bottled water. So you gotta be real careful where you eat salad or burgers with lettuce and tomatoes etc.

Good video, that's the real reason for Bali belly in my opinion. Been to Bali 13 times, and only got it in 2013 on my first trip. My mate and I shared the same dish at Made's Warung of all places, and copped it for a few days. A third friend that didn't have that dish, was ok, so we knew where we got it from. It's getting better though. More locals are using the tp method than ever before. 🙂

Bali belly most often is from water, you can not drink the tap water here in Bali but you will be getting little bits of it daily whether you like it or not. I live in Bali and one thing I do here just like I've done in all the developing countries I've spent time in is I brush my teeth using tap water, always, that causes me to injest a regular tiny amount of the water which enables my system to maintain an immune response to the bacteria in the water. As much as you need to be careful with what you eat and drink here if you totally isolate your system from any of the microbes and bacteria in the environment anytime some of these manage to sneak through you have zero immune response to them and you are gonna spend the next few days shitting through the eye of a needle. I mean if you're just here for a few days on holiday then sure you can probably manage to do that, if you're here for a longer time or living here you have to allow your system to acclimatise and build immunity, the only way to do that is to allow some exposure to the local environment.

Dude, this was an awesome video covering sensitive subject. Good on you for educating the vacationers to Bali or Indonesia in general. I'm Dutch-Indonesian but grew up in the states. I grew up washing my bum with water, all my life. Most larger restaurants have sinks out in the main dining area to wash your hands because most Indonesians eat with their hands. But yes, small warungs will most likely not have a sink. You are right, bring wipes everywhere you go.

Hi Murray , I have a few questions about the ECD ( electronic declaration form ) that everybody must fill in before arrival at the airport of Bali . 1. From when can we fill in this form ? ( 24 hours before landing in Bali ? ) 2. Must we fill in this form on the smartphone or at home at our computer ? 3. Do we get a proof of this by mail and must we show this at the airport ? 4. On the form we must fill in the number of accompanied baggage and the number of unaccompanied baggage . What does this mean ? Is accompanied baggage the hand luggage that we take with us in the airplane, and the unaccompanied baggage the bigger luggage ( suitcase ) that are in the luggage compartment in the airplane ? If my wife and i have 2 handluggage and 2 bigger suitcases with us what must we fill in on the ECD form ? I am sorry for these questions but we want to be sure to fill in the right number on the form . Thank you very much in advance for your answer . Greetings from Belgium

What a big issue not to do something about, they just navigate around it. The least that could be done is supply a separate sink with soap. Makes you wonder were you come in contact with the mess, probably everywhere.

There is another way they do number 2, its with a normal toilet🚽, but they use a thing what I call a bum gun. Its like a little spray of water from a Hoses, 🚿😊

It would be very easy for one person whose left handed to accidently contaminate the water ladel, then someone touches it with the right hand there afterwards and they get infected.

If you know how to use a squatter properly it's not as bad as you think. Take your pants right off for a start, then don't be trying to do a half squat holding yourself up in the air basically pretending you are sitting on a toilet that isn't there, you have to do a full squat right down, the backs of your thighs should be against your calves although that is very difficult if your not used to it, once you're down like that everything back there opens right up it spreads your bum cheeks for you there is minimal mess to deal with afterwards, if you're squatting right down you don't even have to give it a push like sitting on a dunny you just relax and it shoots out, if you do a half squat like a bule who misses the conventional toilet and pretends he's sitting on one it keeps your bum cheeks closed and you are in for a total disaster to deal with after, once you're finished you grab the water scooper and while still in the full squat lean forward a bit more and pour the water on your tail bone area, it will just flow exactly where you need it to flow, if everything goes well there is very little more you need to deal with back there, full on poo hand is what people who don't know how to do it properly experience. Once you are used to this it's not anywhere as bad as people think it is. Another thing that is relevant about this is that people usually try to keep their daily routine so that they use the toilet then mandi (shower) afterwards all in a single visit to their own kamar mandi at home.

Not sure whom toilet did you show in this video but it seem very primitive., in a touristic area all bathrooms are much better set up. That’s my experience. For crossing the island have toilet paper with me and hand sanitizer tissue and gel.

Using an Indonesian loo, without T.P. Would put me off visiting Bali, I reckon. Having to extricate #2 out of one’s bum, with the fingers, sounds wholly off-puttingly unsanitary not to mention the mechanism of actually using the squat toilet itself.
