As a white farmer this problem is even worse if you don't know how to manage it correctly, from my experience the key is get a labor contractor and hold him responsible for everything ,don't mingle with the workers be savage on the contractor when you have to let him understand the responsibility you expect but also don't be stupid and just leave your whole business in someone else hands and if he and his team cant manage get rid of the whole bunch don't keep any of his employees tell them to apply for a new job at the new contractor ..don't stick your nose in the business of the contractor let him pay, hire and fire remember what ever happens on the farm is the responsibility of that contractor stipulate what you expect ,create a worksheet and schedule that way it will remove a huge burden from you so that you can concentrate on more important things

If you want your management to be effective, you make the verified ones shareholders in the farm. You enter into a contract with them that they will own a certain percentage of the flock if they breed them well. For example,they own one pig when a sow successfully raises 15 piglets to slaughter size. With this, they'll take ownership of the farm, knowing fully that the survival of the flock is where they profit. Tina, what about that guy that usually use dua deep acaricide to spray the cows when Mr Sempex was still around? That guy looks like someone that is committed. Thanks for this information. Udeze Anthony.

bad idea ... how you get rid of them if their attitude change? also they don't care they still going to hold you responsible after it failed and in most countries the labor law protect them and they know it ..done it wore the shirt ,this method doesn't work in africa

I think it is important to professionalise management by putting workers on performance contracting. Also have a clear monitoring and evaluation mechanism and reward in the business venture. Clearly in a region where there is scarcity of jobs workers would like to join ventures with high sounding promises. When this is put to test it flops. What gets measured gets done. At your level of work you may need to consider taking up a professional manager and directors then Tina and Grifton become supervising executives. This is because.of the extent in investment l see in the farm that l love.

Now my fellow farmers LISTEN if we are to succeed in farming as a BUSINESS we must know and understand and accept the BITTER fact that NEVER i repeat NEVER leave your farming business more so in the first years of starting in the hands of so called managers. MANAGERS are supposed to you yourself the owner..u must be in position to involve ur self in all activities of the farm in the first atleast 5 years ......give an example a mother can not leave her newborn baby to anyone in the first days of its life....why do we farmers do that and find it normal to just be driving periodically to check on our farms just. Construct a house there for u to stay n supervise each and every thing.....if we dont do that we r still making losses.....me am telling u. You dnt know how many incidences that i save or intervene everyday that would have led to major losses if i wasnt there...... Its rare for Business men out there eg in trade to set up a big shop with millions of money den hand it over for strangers to manage in the first stages...its so rare....pple work in their businesses day n night unlike us farmers. Am on ground but the stories ive witnessed of workers n managers....i conclude by saying that if u cant participate fully in ur farming business in the initial stages please dont start...dont say i didn't tell u
@guidinglightorphansinc.5255
Good point. You gotta guard your 💰. Setting up a temporary structure for yourself is cheaper than the losses you may incur. You interrupt the pattern of theft, laziness, bickering and more

This video is particularly on my goat/ cattle project. This really scares me.Am based in UK and my farm is In kirihura district.Most of the time,it’s workers running the show. Having said that,I have noted with concern certain characteristics that are prevalent at my farm.I have lost lots of young goats & calves.

Indeed it's better to train your own manager so that that person does what you want. You ought to have repoting items set. You should ensure that some aspects like vaccinations should be done in your presence for confirmation of the activity because you may not like it when the disease hits. Other workers will fear telling you in time.

Thank you Tina and Grafton. I subscribed to your RU-vid channel long ago, and have learnt a lot from you. This info about management of the farm is the best. You are correct, right attitude is crucial. You would rather get a person with a positive attitude and train them on what to do, than get a mean, wrong attitude person that has the skills! He won't benefit you, instead he will poison other employees minds!
