Great story, poor Ann. I think that she fell in love, got pregnant, and either died giving birth to the unwanted child who her parents either killed or let die and then walled up in her room, or she lived through the birth and knowing that the baby was in the wall drove her insane. I do think that she was a real person.

This whole story has me wondering beyond that. It all has the signs of possession. Was there an exorcism performed on her anywhere in this story? Was the family actually protecting her, or thinking they were responsible and felt they needed to deal with this as they themselves also invited this man into their home and perhaps believed the unborn child was demonic? Would it be possible that Anne had already been possessed causing the family the need to put her in an asylum where they could get help, which is the case many times when this happens. May be way off the mark and possibly hard to believe but back then it wouldn't be, people believed in witches, demons, dark entities, evil and possessions. Do I believe it happens? Don't know but I view this type of stuff with an open mind.
I left a comment pointing out that when I go to settings and changed the playback speed from normal to 0.25 at 17:50 I hear a child say,"Mommy." I think you are correct, but perhaps she has already found her child.

This was a great story and I love listening to your accent. Now a couple of years back there was another story about her it showed pictures of her alive mostly bony, very long tangled hair and they( the authorities)took out of a locked room that someone had reported she was being kept there out of the way under lock and key. They had taken her to a institution where she lived out her life and died there never to be the same. I don't think that she lived very long. And like you said they had found the skeletal remains of a baby in the wall. Either way it is a very sad story and I hope her energy is at peace and happiness. I am new to your channel but the couple of videos I have seen I am already intrigued. And I am looking forward to seeing the rest. Thank you!
What a truly haunting story…..you narrated it so perfectly. Poor Anne, I believe she fell pregnant and the family were mortified and concealed the pregnancy and birth. The bones hidden in the walls, Anne was driven to deep despair and suffered great misery which ultimately led to her death. Thank you for sharing her story with us.

What a creepy story! My grandmother saw the devil when she was young , she was fine in life but she was a hard core church going lady and always sang songs about Jesus ❤❤❤ She lived to 86
Or, did Ann die, from the rejection and abuse she received from her family, upon finding she was with child? How many stories have we heard over the ages, of women, usually young women, who are ostracized by their family members, for getting pregnant out of wedlock? What you call the burial vault, being where it is, looks to me more like a spring, or well house. The electrical wire coming out of the church wall, goes into the ground, just beside the vault. I'm thinking a well pump... But that's just me.
I've herd a few tales of people buried in a chair upright, but the chair shaped coffin is a new one to me. Cool story though love these kind of tales. Happy Halloween from upstate N.Y.

Sad that the graveyard and the headstones aren't kept in better condition. As far as the story, I've never heard this story but very interesting. Horrible to think if the baby was alive OR dead it being buried in a wall like that. Very disrespectful to anyone. Just a sad story all around. Another question is those who saw the coffin in the 40s, they didn't write down their stories or share with anyone whet the coffin actually looked like? I'm NEW from Oregon, USA.
The remans were an infant. Not a baby as its skull was fully formed. Would she be left buried without her child? Many infants died for all kinds of reasons back then.In those days you were locked away for ridiculous reasons. I’d never sit and play cards with a dark stranger. Yes it makes a suspicious story.Many an incestual child was blamed on a convenient story of a "dark stranger" and the victims locked away to keep silent and be shunned.I hope that is not the case, yet something was not right here in this sad tangled web.

I am brand new to your channel and find it fascinating. A couple of hundred years ago belief in the devil was more prevalent and any odd or provocative circumstances would be explained by "the devil". That way the person could say they were not at fault...the devil was. I feel very sad for this young woman with her unrequited love and innocent little baby...and her tragic death. Can I be honest? I think the creepy film clips are distracting and take away from the already-intriguing story. The true story is already crazy amazing. I love your channel and will be watching all your videos. I believe Ann's daughter was born alive. Her parents took Ann's daughter before she even got to hold her. Ann did not survive the birth of her daughter. Ann's parents raised Ann's daughter as their own and named her Elizabeth Ann Hightower. When Elizabeth Ann was 14 years old, a woman who worked for Ann's parents was filled with guilt at knowing what Ann's parents had done and told Elizabeth the entire story. After the death of Ann following Elizabeth's birth, two stable hands placed Ann's body inside a wall in the house and sealed her inside the wall. Eventually Ann's body was removed from her tomb in the walls and given a proper burial, however, the halls of Hightower Manor continue to experience strange and unexplained events to this very day. Elizabeth Ann Hightower was my Great-Great Grandmother...

Rigor mortis disappears after 36 hours so unless Anne has some crippling disease where her bones were set in a distorted position I'm doubting the strange coffin design story. As for baby in walls wouldn't be 1st time a person young or old was walled up. The stranger if existed was just a man of ill intentions not the devil himself. Poor Anne may she be resting in peace.

I'm pretty sure she died from being so lovesick for her man. She possibly shut herself up from her family, especially her father for denying her marriage to her love. So grief stricken that she lost her appetite and died from the combined grief.
Very interesting story. I have seen boots built over cow, deer, or horse hooves to get through boggie ground and have no trail to follow that is suspiciously human.Cattle thieves and those avoiding detection used these boots to camoflauge their tracks.Could it be why the stranger was so tall and unknown? My Daughter always wanted to meet a irishman to marry, she sang the celtic music, trouble was she was stunning stil a good looking woman could not cope with her beauty never lived or married she has a strong spirit wont be messed about, but she got on with irish men, she said true men, but they found her spirit to much. She used to sing on the ferry boat from liverpool to ireland. So i never got my irish stepson, were not Irish.
That picture of the old woman is not her!!! That’s the woman from France who wasn’t allowed to marry her suitor. Her parents locked her in the attic and she was found about 25 years later by police and removed to a mental asylum

They say there's always a kernel of truth in stories. I see probable truth, 1. She got pregnant by the stranger 2. She most likely died in childbirth 3. She most likely died in the fetal position due to pain from said childbirth and rigor mortis set in and made it impossible to straighten her out without breaking bones and thus had to be buried in a crooked coffin .

I had heard of this woman before, but the speculation was that the man may have forced himself on her (hence calling him the devil), and she tried to hide the resulting pregnancy. She may have tried to hide the baby in the wall, whether she killed it or it was stillborn, then lost her mind at the horror of it all. Or her family's horror at what she'd done led them to send her away. Thought it was an interesting take.

That woman who's picture you showed wanted to marry a man that her mother and brother didnt aprove of. They found she was going to run off with him. Her mother and brother locked her in a room . The authorities finally got wind of it and liberated her but she was in poor health and poor mind . She was institutionalized until she died .
I belive in this story, seems like if it hadn't happened, folks over time would have said it was just folklore. That would have been mentioned through the centuries. From Sacramento, California.
So if you want to hear something really chilling, down by her vault at 17:50 you might hear a voice when listening at normal audio speed but if you go to settings in the lower right corner of the video screen and in settings go to playback speed and change the speed from normal to 0.25 you will very clearly hear a young child say, "Mommy." There is no mistaking it. Is Anne's child calling to her? Do you hear a voice say, "Good morning" at the very beginning of 2:05? If you start listening at 2:04 I think that would be helpful. How about at 8:53, do you hear "Our family" I enjoyed joining you on your walk through a very creepy cemetery. But if you listen very carefully you will find they all are.
I think all in all, Anne might have been suffering from a tediously crippling disease, which gradually worsened as she got older. Added to their woes, it's plausible she may have gotten pregnant from disturbing circumstances, surrounding certain indiscretions by a closer member of the family circle, than they were publicly prepared to admit. I don't know how a body of a child could be sealed up in a wall, without raising concern by members of the household, because of the obvious smell it would make as it began to putrefy. I suppose they might of explained it away as a dead rat, or some other animal that had met its demise in the woodwork.
Interesting; You poise a story as if it were an echo lofting in the air. Perhaps your foreign dialect lends to a credence that seals off doubt itself. In fact you tell this legend during daylight hours and my skin still reacts as if a cold wind hit only me. I’m sure that if Morgan Freeman the ultimate orator would hear you he would pause to listen and certainly strike his Hollywood grin in approval. As for me, let’s just say if we were sharing the same campfire and you began a story, I’d get up and move away. I’m not afraid of any man, I’m no fool but I do know that we humans only grasp the suggested bait today. However there is a moniker of truth to your legendary tale. I read the good book often and learn what I read. God made the woman for Adam by feeling mercy level pity in his loneliness. And oh my gosh didn’t God do some fine work at that creation? So much so that even some angels according to the scriptures took the human wives unto themselves and bore children with them. Now these fallen ones who were originally genderless certainly felt the pangs of lust, the curse of Satan himself. So to think Satan would take for himself a few of the lovely lassies of have to say indeed he would have. Perhaps this woman in your tale had just that right look. I can say that he comes for all who have a true ecumenical mission which is once again a blessing.
