What This Guy Does To His Wasted Attic Space Is Astounding You Have to See It

In 2014 this attic looked just like any other attic anywhere in the world. You can see the old bits of just-added insulation inside, for example, and the occasional work tool or stray plank of wood. But this particular homeowner saw the potential in this wasted space and set about creating something incredible.

One day I removed my lawnmower from the the shed. I had to put it in reverse in order to do this. After that I parked it in the backyard in order to refuel it. This required removing the cap for my gas tank. I poured the fuel into the tank until it was completely full. I then proceeded to start the lawnmower up which required turning the key in a clockwise motion. After that I drove the lawnmower over the yard with the cutting blades engaged. This allowed length of grass to be cut off at a much shorter length. When this process was completed the entire yard had an incredible new appearance.

I design trusses for a living, and there is no way the engineers I answer to would ever sign off on what this guy did. There are times when a load bearing wall will help transfer weight so that your not crushing the exterior walls but, that means the interior wall starts at the dirt and has a proper footer, pony wall and etc. A 2x10 is the smallest piece I use in an attic Truss and that if the room is less then 12’ wide.

The trusses are not supporting, so the weight and walk movement this will damage roof due to flexing of the tie beams, very least crack all the ceilings in the rooms underneath and eventually much worse such as failure of the truss fixing due to movement and flex. My own roof is constructed the same way. I wouldn't be comfortable doing things his way. Maybe square out the "room" and replicate the angle of the trusses on top to support the roof, then run 2x6 beams from hangers mounted to the walls to support the floor without relying on the ceiling beneath. Either way a roofing guy would be doing it.

Lmao,,in New York a complete code violation. Although I have seen builders do this before after all Inspections are complete, and of course after receiving Certificate of occupation. If he was to try to sell this property in NY at a later day all of it would then have to be ripped out.
@philipwall1025
@philipwall1025 3 года назад
In the US codes are very different from state to state and Town to Town.I would imagine the same in Europe. NY has gotten very creative these days ,with fly overs that determine if the occupants of a property for example filled the legal paperwork for that shed or pool.BUT KNOW YOUR RIGHTS IF A TOWN INSPECTOR COMES TO YOUR HOME YOU DO NOT LEGALLY HAVE TO LET THEM IN.I heard the story of a WW2 veteran, a great man ,that was a great father. Who worked several jobs to support his 5 children,was the neighbor that would always give u a hand if u needed something. He always did the right thing,for the people that knew him,fought for a country that he loved that not always loved him back as a Sicilian immigrant.When he was a boy in corona queens he remembered when the cops would call him a WOP.That derogatory term stood for without papers.But in his later years in life ,he respected the police,he respected local municipalities and there employees. So when a town inspector came to his house he let them in.The inspector walked around and wrote on a piece of paper, at 83 years old living on a fixed income, he needed GFIS in the kitchen, a bathroom in the basement demolished.Thicker sheetrock on the ceiling, a ac condenser outside moved the list literally goes on and on.Ultimately it cost about 20,000 worth of work.A ww2 veteran, a retired Rail road foreman who was suffering medically and living the last days of his life.Because he let a town inspector in his home.This man was my grandfather and would the town of brookhaven did to him as far as I'm concerned was criminal. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LET A TOWN INSPECTOR IN YOUR HOME. He bought this house in 1956,he did all the work on it through the years.He was never going to sell home he was ultimately going to die in it.The town strong armed him,sometimes it seems the town can act like LA Costra nostra, and they can do this legally.THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.

@chrischris4827
@chrischris4827 3 года назад
@@ILordSpawnI If you look at what his floor is supported by it is called the bottom chord of the truss. For a truss this size, a span of 24 to 30 feet, this chord would be a 2x6 at the most. It could span up to 30 feet, but for an example lets say it is 24 feet with a center wall on the floor below supporting it at the 12 foot mark. A floor joist supported at 12 feet should be a 2x10 so it is a code issue. But you could order trusses , at an extra cost, that are called( you guessed it) attic trusses that would, by code, allow you to utilize that space. I know that was a little long winded but I hope it helps.

I have a similar space. I would like to put down some plywood as a floor and install a sturdy, pull down ladder in the ceiling. The storage potential will be revolutionary and astronomical! I only plan to store thing up there that are relatively tolerant of hot conditions because it’s quite warm in the summer. The overall design will feature a unfinished “construction in progress” theme featuring sharp roofing nails driven through the ceiling for skull penetration wounds and cleverly serve double duty as retaining fasteners for the shingles on the outside of the roof. Wires will be elegantly draped randomly around the area and a single ceramic fixture in the middle will be adorned with a single bulb to illuminate the area in an almost overpowering but practical glare when I choose to occupy the space and will feature an actual string, imported from a far away land, that functions as an on/off switch for the latest in convenience. Stay tuned for the amazing 40min video (not including ads) You’ve never seen anything like this.

To be honest I have no idea if the guy used the term right, and I'm not going to listen to that again, but: a learning opportunity... Strut is a structural component of a truss which resists longitudinal compression. Tie is a structural component of a truss which resists longitudinal tension. Truss is a structure consisting of “two forces” members subjected to compression or tension only, which are connected together at nodes forming a rigid shape e.g. a triangle. So a truss is formed by a combination of Struts and Ties.

That whole job would be illegal according to building codes. You can never convert attic space into living space with a truss system in place. Changing the angle of the bracing compromises the entire truss. On top of that the bottom cross members were not designed to carry weight. In addition to flooring and furniture he even has a weight bench. This guy has no idea what he's doing This is what happens when a homeowner who no nothing of building codes attempts home improvement.

"but enough of the warnings..." Oh sure numnuts. This is what's known as truss construction. To do it right, actual floor joists need to be installed which in most cases at this stage involves removing the edges of the roof to be able to slip them in. Good luck with your home inspection when you sell... if you live that long.

One day, the day before Trash Day I needed to take out my trash cans so they could be emptied in the morning, so I walked out to my trash cans, I grab the handles and tilt the container, I roll it to the street. I continue this process until all the trash containers are on the street, but what’s amazing is I had more trash cans then the neighbors. My trash cans were way nicer looking, after the trash containers were empty, I washed those containers, then I roll them into the backyard where I store them. That’s how I made an amazing trash can line up

2x4 truss would not be enough to make a floor . 2x8 16 inch center or 2x12 2 foot center. for weight , with a weight bearing wall under the second story , states without code you can do this but when it caves in who is to blame. in 10 years the roof will be pulled from the walls .

Lot of states have no code people build homes out of 2x4 s on cinder blocks every 2 foot that's my point , But like Missouri you can live in a tin box and drink from a creek and no one can say boo. they do as they like , and sell it as a home . I come from a state with CODE if you do it wrong they condemn the home .

Investigators determined the new redesigned roof supports no longer help up the load on the roof. Check out "Let Me Know" new video titled ..... "What Was I Thinking".
