What To Actually Write With Your Fountain Pen 

😂 great video! Apart from all the self inflicted rules and procedures mentioned there is one thing that can bother you when writing: you storytelling mind goes way faster than your fountain pen writing hand. Sometimes I “force” myself to write so fast that even I can’t read what I wrote.

I tend to use fountain pens for pretty much everything now, except when I am in the bus or in meetings and a multi-coloured ballpen is more practical than having to switch pens to use a different colour.

I appreciate you as a role model for the analog community.

For what do I use my fountain pens? Yes. 😁 I seldom write with anything else. And so exactly the types of things that you mentioned. Thanks for pointing out everyday uses, other than the special occasions. The "A" nibs for the Parker 45 are accountant, as are the "posting" ones Esterbrook has (vintage, not the brand that usurped the name.)

I've decided to change the style of my cursive font, to compliment the fountain pen and take advantage of its writing characteristics. I consider that to be a reasonable starting point.

What do I use my fountain pens for? Bullet Journaling daily, for which I have a dedicated Franklin-Christoph #28 with a needlepoint nib and Diamine Registrar's ink, previously De Atramentis Dark Blue Document ink. Letters, Thought Journaling, Record Keeping, and Manuscripting (working on my first book now.) Caligraphy and Handwriting practice is probably the single most common thing I use them for, especially my super broad nibs. Just started working with my first quills for calligraphy. The only ball pen I use anymore is a Tombow pressurized pen that we use for the grocery list on the fridge, because it writes at that angle without skipping or stopping. Relearned cursive just last year, and started writing in cursive with ease for the first time this year, though I have a long way to go to improve my script. I love flex pens for cursive and moderate roundhand style writing, but flex nibs that last are expensive. $$$ I often use replacable steel dip nibs for this, but have a few vintage flex pens. My flexiest pen is in need of a sac replacement, which I am waiting to buy the parts for. I grew up writing a lot, though I was very disorganized with what I wrote until I finally started bullet journaling three years ago; now I index things and am able to find anything I wrote with ease. I stopped writing frequently altogether in college, when I developed writing and typing pain. Switching to dvorak and an ergonomic keyboard got rid of the typing pain, but only when the fountain pen bug bit _me_ did I realize I could return to daily writing again while also remaining comfortable. I'm writing more than ever, these days. Brian Goulet is awesome, but his expertise is on the pens themselves because he has been exposed to so very many. His taste in pens is pretty different from my own. I like your videos for the demystification of the creative writing process and tips on how to avoid getting in your own way during that process. Have you messed with Franklin-Christoph much? They are my favorite manufacturer and they have some amazing nib options. I love their Music nib, their needlepoint nib, their SIG nibs, and their gold nibs, especially the cursive calligraphy model. They have a steel flex nib but it's not my favorite; still quite nice but GIMME MOAR FLEX! I mostly just use it as a fine nib with no pressure.

All my fountain pens are sub 30 dollar pens. Some are great. Some less so. I use them for almost all my writing. My favorite is a Wordsworth and Black with EF nib. I keep it loaded with Diamine writer's blood ink. I switch out which ones I carry from week to week. When working I usually have three in my bag. I use them for notes to self and others mainly. I use them to fill out maintenance logs. I write on boxes as well. When at home I write in a rhodia pad. I write random thoughts. I write pangrams, song lyrics of the song I am listening to, labels in front of me. Just for the sake of writing. It doesn't matter, I just enjoy the act. It calms me, my mind can focus on a single act and get a reprieve from all the things that scream for our attention. I play with different ways to form the letters. Thanks to your instruction and encouragement, I may try to write something creative... maybe. No matter what I choose to write I know it will be relaxing because the end result isn't the point... the act is. Thank you, keep up the great work.

I'm very curious about your fountain pen collection. I saw pelican, i saw parker 51 and maybe a pilot. I haven't seen you showed any preference about your fountain pens. Love your video, makes people calm and feel good about writing again 😊

I really enjoy writing my novels in them.

I wrote my first ever sonnet today. I actually used a pencil to draft it ✏️ 😞 😀 But I used a Kaweco Skyline to note down my research into the 'rules' for sonnets.

I do think even with most people using bic ball point pens sometimes I am somewhat curious how long the ink would last once they have written in their journals and have that journal stored away once it's done being I don't think I haven't heard to many people keeping their writing work they have done with their cheap ballpoint pens

I use my fountain pens for writing in my journal every day (which I credit for keeping me married for more than 35 years, as my husband doesn’t have to hear all of the thoughts that rattle around in my head), letters and cards (I am kind of known for all of the cards that I make)), and my daily to-do list. I keep a rollerball around to use when someone has given me a poor-quality journal, and a ballpoint pen when I need to fill out a form such as a mail-in ballot. One or two mechanical pencils live in my house, and that’s it. (My hubby prefers Fisher Space Pens for all of his writing, but he grew up in Florida during the Apollo days, so he’s a special case, and can be excused.)

I use vintage flex-nibbed pens for day-to-day writing, but mostly for calligraphy, which I practise by writing silly and/or inappropriate things.

I always write with my fountainpen. In private it is for years the same pen. For work I have to replace it regulary due to little accidents ;-) So these pens are more price-friendly but.... still fountainpens ;-)

Is Parker Sonnet an expensive pen for beginners

I'm saving my fps for creative writing - should I ever be inspired! For general scribbling and cursive practice, I use a Pilot Kakuno. That said, I use ballpoints and pencils for writing in print script as I sometimes feel more comfortable writing with them. They would - with print script - be an excellent way to write a first draft. I'd use cursive with my fps to write subsequent drafts by adding notes.

Write with a calligraphy nib and whatever you write instantly becomes ... Art!

I use my fountain pen for personal + work journals and all the different things I study, from chess to languages.

I se my 149 pens to attempt to do creative writing, that is, I am trying to complete my first novel. I use my Kaweco Brass Sport fps to journal everyday, and I use assorted Lamy Al-star fps for short notes, shopping lists and other misc. things that I need to write down.

I use whatever fountain pen for whatever writing. I bring out the OMAS for big writing. Writing that will one day change the world....
