My kitten was alone in the middle of a parking lot meowing very loudly and was panting, very tiny and was about 4 weeks old. He was also sick with an upper respiratory infection, had a bunch of fleas and eye and nose gunk. His mother was nowhere around so we picked him up and he’s gotten so big since then. Awwww! So similar how we found our second one a few months ago! Alone in a parking lot, about 4 weeks old, very dirty, sick, with one eye in very bad condition, with fleas, malnourished, mother nowhere around. But she never made a noise, she just opened her mouth but no voice came out. We took her home, bathed her, took her to the vet multiple times; sadly she completely lost vision in her one eye, but thankfully the other one is fine and she is otherwise healthy! We call her Bukitsa (small bite) because ahe was so extremely tiny when we found her. ^_^

I have a little kitten that my grandsons just found a couple weeks ago. The hardest part for then, they were near tears, was when I made them leave it for a few more hours to make sure the momma wasn't coming back. I want sure if momma was just moving the others or of it wandered off. After a couple hours she was still there so we brought her in and got some milk and a bottle for her. I think she was only about 2.5 weeks old when we found her.

It's not that hard to find outdoor cat colonies, you just have to do a few google searches and talk to some people. There is probably one close to you that you're not aware of. My town as fewer strays than a city 30 minutes away. And more 30 mins the other way. They might be more common near small forests.

This channel always reminds me of the rewarding experience I had in 8th grade with my Ms. Frizzle-like science teacher. Near the dumpster outside our school the lead custodian found a shoebox full of four kittens. They couldn't be more than 2 weeks old as only two had their eyes open with no momma in sight. It was wildly known this teacher was an animal lover so she brought them over to the classroom in the middle of the day and all of us immediately jumped on board for kitten care. Since they needed frequent round the clock feedings she'd bring them in to work with her everyday and since I was the student who dropped in to help take care of the other class animals (2 iguanas, 3 snakes, a turtle and two hedgies) I became chief kitten surrogate, carrying them around in a little pouch and preparing bottles and potty breaks in-between classes. I had a dog at the time at home who wasn't too kitty friendly so sadly I couldn't adopt one of them myself but a fellow classmate adopted one and other friends of the teacher the other three after they were neutered. Nothing more rewarding than 4 balls of fluff so sleepy comfortable they decide to pee on you all at once lol

A small percentage of 3 week old kittens can run due to sheer determination (and then constant practice because of that determination). A new barn cat had surprise kittens, and by three weeks old the only thing the hellion of the group wanted to do was run. She was sprinting when her siblings could barely walk without falling and was an absolute nightmare

A few weeks ago there was a kitten meowing non stop somewhere near my house so on the second day I went and picked her up. She was so tiny and scared, but she already had little teeth and was clearly weaned so I fed her and placed her in some boxes some neighbors had set up for the strays. At night, after I'd already went and fed the little one a couple of times, a limping calico showed up and took the kitten away with her. I lived nearly ten years in a neighborhood that hosted a feral cat colony, and even though we had an active TNR team, we couldn't keep pace with reproduction, so there were lots of new kittens. Two of them, brother and sister, became mine when we had a surprise heavy snowfall. They were roughly six months old when I adopted them, so taming them down took a good while, and they will never be fully cuddly. They are three years old now, and they're still with me.

@@1940limited My parents got a cat this way. He was sweet, gentle, and a survivor--broken tail, broken back (both long healed), and he went three rounds with cancer before we lost him. I still kind of miss him, even though it's been quite a long time since he passed. On the flip side, a friend of mine is in the early stages of this--a feral had kittens a couple years back, and all five still come by on a fairly regular basis--one of the grown kittens is already halfway to being a housecat, and it's still quite possible the other three might follow suit! Though perhaps not all with him, as he's not the only one feeding them. The affectionate one is clearly bonded to him now, though. It's interesting to compare notes with him; my most recently adopted cat is an ex-streetcat herself, and about the same age, so I've been able to offer him tips for how to interact with his cat, since mine's been hitting the outdoor-to-indoor-cat milestones a little bit ahead of his.

@@1940limited I'm sorry for yours, too-- I lost a kitten a few years back to FIP, so I know how devastating it is to go through that. From what my friend has told me, though the rest of the ferals remain somewhat aloof, his cat is now quite comfortable around him and his family--not lap-cat levels, but she follows him around and enjoys play, treats, and petting (and food, of course). Mine's in about the same place, though we're still working on some mild aggression issues--she didn't exactly have it easy, and it shows. I'm from the UK and it really blows my mind how many homeless pets there seem to be in the states. I genuinely have never seen a homeless dog or cat in the UK - most cats you do see are people's outdoor cats (you can tell because they'll have collars and be friendly and usually quite chubby - clearly well-looked after!). Plus, microchipping your pets is required by law, so there's less probability of people abandoning their pets. I really think the US needs stricter laws on pet ownership tbh because it breaks my heart to think of how many poor little kittens are born in the streets to suffer :/.

LUCKILY we have an awesome shelter that provided me with support and I had experience caring for bottle babies. I tried to catch the mom but unfortunately her home is a kitten factory. An alley that had at least 4 moms in a 100 ft radius (one brand new litter under the car my kittens came from). Thankfully after a lot of help from neighbors and the shelter, we are gonna trap the entire colony tomorrow and get all those kitties fixed and get the babies out of the streets! No one should have 19 kittens at one time! A lot of the rescues have on line applications for you to apply to help!THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH FOSTERS get involved go google cat rescues and fill out or express your intrest. Here in LA there are 5 or 6 looking for fosters who could have helped me if people had signed up to foster! Love your videos! A close friend of mine found my black kitty on a rainy evening in early August of 2019. He was approx. 3-4 months old & was malnourished. He also had a broken right leg 🥺 She looked for more kittens and couldn't find any. I went to pick him up because her landlord was going to toss him back outside (she wasn't allowed to have any pets in her apartment). I rushed him to a vet; no microchip. I instantly fell in love with him & I decided to keep him. He's been with me ever since. Best decision I have ever made. He was neutered the following month & the vet did an x-ray on his back right leg. It turns out that the bone had miraculously healed. Now his leg kinda juts out a little sideways whenever he sits but he runs, jumps and plays just like a young cat does 🙂

I did get a 4 weeks old kitten, that was poor, she had both ears totally closed with ear mites and worms😿 😢 I got her from an very alcoholick man, that had heard in town, that I was looking for to get a kitten. I new there right away, that she would die if I dident try to save her, so I did. Though it wasent a babykitten that I was looking for.. its a small city and people talk.... I took her right away to the wet. Where she had to get sedation to get all ear mites flused out. I was very anxie, because she could die from the sedation. 🤗❤️ But gladly she lived. I got milkpowder and 🍼... and Weigth her every day,to make sure she was developedly in the right way. My daughter wich was 10 at the time, she was sad that the kitten dident have a mamacat, (we named her Fighter because of her effortsly will to live) Anyway my daughter sowed a kitten mum out of an old furry coat. She did that in the place she was in after school, where they made all kind of creative projeckts with the kids. After she was feedfor night, we ha a transporting cage, where she was during the night except for feeding time There were all kinds of soft blankets, and ofcourse, the furry mammacat/mum replacement. 😸😺😻We had the cage stand on a chair, totaly close to our bed, so we could stroke her, while she rolled up intowards the mumma cat replacement. It was like haveing a baby again.. and thinking about it she was a baby cat.🤗❤️😻 During the day, she was never left alone. We had her with us on bikeriding, where she was in a micro leash then we puted blankets and other thing in the byclebasket in the front of the stearingwhile. She sat there and totaly enjoyde the rides. It was a realy hot summer so we did also have a bottle with wather, that were boild and then cooled of, we stoped along the way, and let her explore the fresness of the grass. We did also have her i a little gym.bag. On our stomach, where she sad on enough blankets so if she wanted to look out she could. Realy many people was curriues about, what we had in that bag, and when they saw her looking up with her small blue eyes, they was soldt.... And I remember that, I was so gratefull to have her, and see every improvement she did over time. Last year she learned aggiliety in my garden. And she was so good at it, that she almost started the lane before I was ready with the comand 🤩😂😽😸😺 This story makes me remember a realy good time. Thank you so much for that.💚🙏🏼💚 She was 13 years and 11 month, when I had to go to the wet, with her do to hyperventilasion.. from one day to another. First I got some medecin home with me, for her to take, to help on her breathing because her heart was strong, and there was not any ivvvvhhh sound while listen to her... after 5 days it had not helped, so on the 6 Day I went to the wet again. I asked for them to take an exray of her.. It showed, that her liver was shutting down and therefor liked wather into her stomach so the stomach was pulling on her lungs.. so there was no hope... 😭I was so so sad, and still are. It was only last wedensday. But she was brave to the end. She had been the most playfull cat Ive ever had, and there was no way for me to know, that she had cancer in her liver. (Said the wet, and I guess she was right, because she had been her playfull self all the way, also drinking, eating and go to her litterbox) 🌸🙏🏼🌸 So in memory of her 😻 I will end my telling here. Rest in peace my beloved and brave Fighter. 🤲🏼💗💕💕💕💕💕💕 I burryed ⚰️ her next to one of her literkittens, that had a stroke last march it got 11 years, and looked a lot like Fighter.. anyway they both have a really beautieful spot in my garden. Just were they normaly would roll around or lay down. With pretty flowers and so. 💗🙏🏼💗🤲🏼💗💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕may all kittens have a safe caring home🌸🙏🏼🌸

Several years ago, I was in my backyard with my two dogs when an orange kitten meowed from my empty neighbor's yard and walked towards the fence between the two houses. I was shocked it didn't sense the dogs and just went straight towards me. I was able to reach under the fence for the cat and could see its eyes were rather crusty and it was having some breathing difficulties. I called my shelter but they said they don't pick up cats. So, I waited until a family member returned with my car and took the kitten to a shelter, initally putting it in a cardboard box with a blanket on the back porch (I didn't want to bring it inside since it was sick). It was spring, like now, and I tried feeding it but it didn't want anything. I finally got it to the shelter and a few weeks later, it looked like they put it up for adoption, naming it Luke. I don't know if my city has a trapping program, though it does advocate for TNR. I didn't know anything about all of that back then, and I'd only recently found out about the shelter at all, so I didn't think about trying to find the mother and other kittens. But due to what I've learned here, I know now what I can do in that situation, starting with finding some traps. The kitten I found was either at 5 weeks or older as it walked relatively fine and its eyes were open, even if they were infected. Hope "Luke" made someone very happy :)

I found a little guy, about 5 weeks old, all by himself two weeks ago. He looked alright physically but he was very very scared, because he was right next a major highway! I go past that place every day on my way home and know for sure no cats live around there. So I took him in and found him a foster who can dedicate more time to his care. He's doing really well now, causing havoc and playing with his foster mommy's cats.

last year i was able to take approxx 14 kittens in the beginning of the pandemic off the streets. first litter was 2 week olds in absolutely horrible shape, second was some 6 week olds in good shape (whom i actually know the parents! they were our local community stray cats and i knew she had kittens somewhere!) third was some 3 week olds who had a mom but were in really rough shape regardless, and fourth was one very tricky little 11 week old that took us a whole MONTH to socialize. i got some criticism along the way but after watching this i know i definitely did the right thing. one from the first litter and one from the second became my two forever cats as well. i used your channel SO much to help me through taking care of all of them, so thank you so much!

Thanks for your videos! We were feeding a stray that we quickly found out was nursing. We figured out her hiding spot and we were able to capture mom and seven healthy kittens. Momma is very thin, so we are working on fattening her up and they all seem to appreciate regular meals and a warm place to sleep. We used your videos to assess age and to properly socialize them. We got lucky and they were rescued at 4 weeks. They have been with us 4 nights and they are already turning from little hiss babies hiding in their kitten nest to climbing all over us and asking for treats. Thanks again for your dedication. We were able to (likely) save eight lives!

Glad you have this video up. A month ago a (im guessing) 8 week old kitten wandered onto my patio. She seemed playful, clearly starting to explore and venture away from mom... I caught her because I was just about to put my dogs outside and I didn't want them possibly chasing her up a tree or something. I gave her a once over and it was clear she was a stray and not being taken care of. I called every vet in town and no one would see her. So I ended up taking her to the shelter since they could give her immediate care. Turns out she had a horrible injury that I'd missed. Prior to taking her in I was so worried I did the wrong thing. Somewhere she had siblings and a mama but I she was so beat up I knew she needed help. She ended up passing away from either her injuries or some unseen defect. Either way, I was glad she spent her last days in comfort instead of suffering.

Watching this confirmed for me that so far I'm handling a situation the proper way but we're just at the beginning here. One of the ferals I feed had kittens Thursday and she appears to have settled in at a point where the dirt from the landscaping planter is only a few inches or so from the bottom of the building where I live. Quite inaccessible if one wants to be careful, good concealment for a mother cat's purposes. Can hardly see in even with a flashlight but don't want to shine it in too much. This video gave me tips on what to look for as soon as I see these kittens and I check three times a day. I've been trying to capture this feral for about a year and she is very elusive. I have humane traps, but she's never fallen for them. If the kittens appear safe the first time I see them I'll wait until they become somewhat ambulatory before I focus on catching them. I'll still be checking them and feeding her. I have several inside cats and I suppose I've been practicing rescue informally for quite some time.

This was so helpful, thank you! I've hand-raised several preemie kittens here where I live and it's always a difficult call whether to take them or not. In every situation, I have to say, the kittens were either abandoned and crying for their momma for more than 8 hours, or they were covered in filth next to a garbage can and road. 😣 They've all found good homes, though, and the one that was filthy I kept and she's a super sweet fluffball now 🥰 I'm so glad I was able to help, but it's definitely a lot of work! I like how you added the "A" for ability at the end - that's such an important consideration, as it takes a lot out of you.

My adult son recently found a 4-week old kitten, cornered by some local dogs and in danger of becoming a snack. He had recently lost his best friend cat, so he's adopted the kitten. Fun fact, this kitten still needs to be pottied, something my son can't bring himself to do, so I will be doing that for the next week or so, until the kitten gets the hang of the litter box. We have a feral mama who is using our inground patio as a nursery for her litters (the joy of having cat boxes). She has four kittens right now who just recently opened their eyes. We are making plans to TNR her once the kittens are older, and find them a foster to take them in. We are keeping a close eye on them though, because she abandoned her last litter by shoving all of them into the undercarriage of Mom's Prius, which she herself couldn't get into to feed them. That was an … interesting day!

@@ghostofvalor4349 For my part, I only just moved in with my Mom a few months ago (had been living with my Dad previously), so this is new territory for me. For Mom, she has been trying to get my step-dad to handle it because he volunteers with OAR (Ohio Alleycat Rescue) and has contacts. Sadly he can be unreliable about some things, and this is one of them. I think he likes having kittens around, as he's named most of the community cats and can identify them on sight even when they look alike. I'm making sure to regularly poke Mom about it, because it does need to happen and she made the choice to step up herself this time. Plus, the complex we live in used to be pet friendly and had a policy of waiving the pet fee for any community cats you adopted, and Mom and her mate (her term for my step-dad) have a lot of friends who have been happy to take in and foster/adopt the kittens, so the local herd is relatively small.

Our little ones (not little anymore lol, they're almost 2 years now) were in a kinda bad condition, they weren't SUPER dirty, but they had fleas and ear mites and weren't super clean either, they were about 6 weeks old and lived in a pile of trash, we watched them for a few days and never saw the mom, maybe she could smell us or maybe there was no mom, because they lived on my dad's company's grounds where they are a lot of trucks, cars, and other machines, so not a very good situation, plus our old cat had passed a few months ago so we thought about getting a new cat anyway, so we picked them right up and brought them to the vet, got them vaccinated and chipped and now they're our babies. I'm so grateful to have found them to this day. They are so thankful and love us unconditionally. The other 4 kittens found other lovely homes

I have seen many kittens on the streets that seemed fine and I always said that I have no space/time to bring one home but this little guy changed my mind. I thought he was 5-6 weeks old because he was so small but the vet said he was 4 months old.
