Great piece guys. I'm planning on my first trip in June, and still deciding on how much time to spend between Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges. I do love the little tips on out of the way gems in this video. Cheers

I am an American that stayed one year in Antwerp as a student. I don't think there was the MAS Museum then. The Internet says it opened in 2011. I was in Antwerp from Summer 1993 through Summer 1994. Antwerp is the second largest port / harbor in Europe, after Rotterdam. I didn't know that at the time I was in Antwerp though. After Antwerp, I stayed in Ghent for three years as a student. Antwerp has a zoo near the central train station. It is one of the oldest zoos in the world.

Have you came back to Belgium since? We're actually covering Gent in our next A Day In... so you'll have to pop back and see what you remember/what has changed!

@@BiteSizedBelgium I was in Antwerp 1993-1994 and in Ghent 1994-1997. I last visited Belgium in Antwerp in 1999 and again in 2002, but I haven't been back to Ghent yet. I learned Antwerps dialect in Antwerp, but Gents dialect is strong and most students in Ghent are from other places, so I didn't get to hear it much.

What's your advice for first time visitors of Belgium.
@BiteSizedBelgium
@BiteSizedBelgium Год назад
@@sherifelsaman9476 Hey there! Not sure if you're looking for Jim's expertise (as he seems to have a lot of good knowledge as an expat) or ours, but our advice would be to have a small route or idea planned out in your head before you go to any city. Belgium is a pretty small country so you can see many places within a short period of time, but to maximize what you'll see I would try to bundle together things that are close in proximity. Other than that, I would suggest getting a bike card for easy transportation. And also remember, you're not obliged to tip at restaurants.

Antwerp is more than the center of the city. There are nature reserves and beautiful parks not far from the city. You can visit the port by Waterbus. There are lots of musea. Great restaurants and concert venues.

why not explain that in the past... as the legend tells Brabo used to operate a custom gate and expect a fee payment.... if people did not pay he would cut their hand and throw it in the schelde

Good video! Thanks to the author of the channel for this fascinating video! It is interesting to see how people live in other countries! It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
