Rough kiln opening today. Hope this doesn't happen to you but if your pottery happens to explode it. s pretty simple clean up. My Shop: lowcoceramics.... Instagram: / lowco_ceramics
Thats to many switches for me I would be doing this all the time lol. For about 150$ off Amazon there are ramp/soak pid controllers you can use to convert these manual kilns to hybrids. I'm doing that with my old Duncan, you could bypass the switches or keep them incase for some reason you need to shut a section off.
Been there, done that!!!! Just about an hour ago, but losses were low! At least this is a bisque firing and not of any real importance. There's always tomorrow.
Oh no! I'm so sorry that happened. Don't feel too bad. I've had the same thing happen on a bisque fire because I put them in too soon. I think every potter goes through this at least once, or something similar, like shaking up a jar of glaze when the lid's not on tight and you end up painting your studio (and yourself) a new color. 😅 Anyway, glad you were able to save some of those cool pieces!
Yep mine was used! It has been a pretty solid kiln! I just replaced the elements and I need to change out a couple switches at the moment. But those things just wear down with time
I love the fact that you keep your positive attitude and smile even after everything blew up. I am so nervous that my clay project is going to explode. I have never used my kiln yet, sitting in my art studio for 3 years, and just finished building Rudolph's castle and all of the figurines, and it took me so long to do them. I'm pretty sure they're dry.... but still. Your videos are helping me tremendously as I have a manual old Skut kiln that is intimidating.. Plus half of my work is low fire like the castle and then the figurines are med to high fire so I am at a cone / glaze wtf do I do loss. Ps I enjoy your humor as well. Had an out loud laugh on your other video when you couldn't see "s--t" looking in the peep hole because I was wondering the same thing!
Aww thank you! This comment made me smile so much! Also, the kiln is so scary and daunting at first. I promise it gets so much easier the more you fire it. My first firing felt so stressful but now it's no problem. I would just fire the different temperature clays in separate firings and it should be all okay. You got this! Take the plunge and fire them or you could fire something simpler just to do a test firing. Then firing your castle and figurines will hopefully be less stressful.
@@lowco_ceramics Thank you! and you're more than welcome! I'm glad I could make you smile :) I was thinking of testing a few dried non important pieces as well. That is probably the best thing to do. Man the stress lol. Keep up the videos I am glad I found your channel!
