What kind of manager do you have? Are they supportive? Do they provide you with opportunities to learn and grow? Perhaps they’re too busy to focus on your career, or mostly focused on their own? There’s a whole range of possibilities.
But hopefully, you don’t have the worst kind: a manager who is actively sabotaging your career.
It hurts to have this kind of manager because not only are they not helping you progress, which a great manager does, but they’re holding or even pushing you back. They can make your life miserable every day and even make you feel depressed.
Whether you react with anger and frustration or start to withdraw and even doubt your own abilities, it can be hard to figure out what to do about the situation.
In this week’s blog post, I share three strategies that can improve your situation if your manager is stifling you and not giving you any opportunities.
Once you’ve watched this, I’d love to hear from you…
Which of these strategies can you use to improve your situation or help someone else improve theirs?

It's the saying people don't normally leave a good job, they leave a bad manager.

Corruption promotes more corrupt people .... when you hear from others ... with the same problem .... it's not you ..... it's just a bad manager !

I was denied training and qualifications, passed over for a part timer with no experience (it was actively done behind my back, and then i was lied to), every time i asked for training or to be shown things or qualifications the answer was always no, without explanation (once when i asked why he said "i just don't want you doing it yet"). Another site was prepared to have me transferred to them, with the promotion i should've got complete with all the necessary training and qualifications. And my manager blocked it! Why would you do that?

Leave for a better company. The manager sounds like a control freak Narc.

@@beasaroseco5840 I asked him why? He said "I like to keep my problems in house" WTF! I said "Most people want to get rid of their problems. There's no reason to block it. If I went, you would've gotten rid of your perceived problem, the new site would've got somebody who's experienced and knows the brand, and I would've got the promotion I should've gotten here". A win win situation for everyone.

There is actually one more option which is record everything and get prove if your manager or a coworker it's intentionally sabotaging you. Because by law he can not and if he is making it difficult breaking the law and discriminating etc he is the one to be fired not you.

I was booked on a course, then COVID stopped it, when it was running again I was told it wasn't for me, so frustrated with them.

I requested to transfer to another dept. But CEO asked me to stay and fight. I said I can't fight my manager, he said find a way. I'm Sr manager, under director, then ceo.

My super and I do not see eye to eye, I don’t think we ever will. My company is amazing but I don’t feel amazing at work and life is too short to feel bad all day even when And especially when I am doing verifiably high quality and advanced work

The title of this video really ought to have been 'So your manager has sabotaged your career, now what ?' because lets face it, if your manager is doing just that, sabotaging your career.. then the last thing that's going to save it is watching a youtube video. I mean that with no disrespect to you May, or anybody in particular. If the seniors (CEOS and directors) are giving 110% backing and trust in confidence to the 'manager', you may as well start looking for a new job. No youtube video on earth is going to stop a manager from sabotaging your career - sorry if that wasn't quite what you wanted to hear, or read but its high time some people stopped being so delusional and started accepting the real world is run by powerful greedy people not youtube life coaches. nobody is going to save your career via a youtube video. FACT.

The truth is always better, for as harsh as it may seem to some. Is typical managerial technique to always make it look like you have an option. Hope is a more predictable motivator than despair. I wouldn't necessarily blame it on greed, but it is certainly impossible to get a manager to make reparations to a mistake of their own.

Some leaders are dysfunctional, toxic, shitty people and the YT video just brings awareness for those who don’t know what to do. It wasn’t the best tips dealing with narcissistic leaders.

Some companies do that, very disappointing, they should hire managers that among other things are mature.

I think my managers are adjusting my hours. I work 10 AM / 9PM on Saturday and Sunday I work 11 AM / 8 PM I think Saturday is supposed to be 10hrs and Sunday 9 hours. But when I check my whole hours Sunday says 8hrs

Companies must try to hire individuals for positions of leadership that are mature, among other obvious qualities the job requires because in some organizations it seems that the main requirements to be hired for manage or supervisor is to say as many jokes is possible and sped as much time as possible talking about personal matters.
