I used to watch your videos from my home country and yearn for the day I'd actually walk those streets. Now that I'm in Vancouver and that I've been to many of these places, your videos seem so familiar. I can't believe I finally get to call Vancouver HOME! Thanks for the beautiful tour, David.

0:13 And if you don't purchase a Day Pass, you'll be charged a $5 fee to travel out of the airport. Remember: The branch of the Canada Line to the airport would not have been built if not for concessions such as this fee. 0:22 It's unfortunate that the decals shown at YVR-Airport Stn here aren't applied at other stations. P3 much? 0:27 Locals such as myself would be happy to move if you want any seats facing the front; outside of rush hour, of course. Do yourself a favour and look like you're a tourist wanting to look; many of us are happy to oblige. To all visitors: Enjoy the first part of your ride from the airport, as you have fewer than ten minutes to enjoy the "skytrain" portion of the ride before you go underground. (Fun Fact: The North Arm Bridge, the second and longest bridge that the train crosses, was the longest extradosed span in North America when it opened. Extradosed being a new engineering form combining suspension and box girters (Wikipedia: "The name comes from the word extrados, the exterior or upper curve of an arch, and refers to how the "stay cables" on an extradosed bridge are not considered as such in the design, but are instead treated as external prestressing tendons deviating upward from the deck.) 1:26 Thank you, GTV, for mentioning the bus stop's name. Buses here now audibly and visually denote each upcoming stop and major transfer point to people aboard. *OF NOTE* - The #84 (from Olympic Village Station) does not stop at Stop #52061 (Westbound W 2nd Ave @ Anderson St). *I* *highly* *recommend* *that* *you* *take* *the* *50* ~ If you happen to catch the #84, be sure to get off the bus at Stop #59751 (Westbound W 6th Ave @ Alder Crossing) or Stop #50578 (Westbound W 4th Ave @ Fir St). (The stop numbers are for looking-up on Google Maps and the names in brackets are what your bus's audio and visual devices will denote). 2:57 Be sure to absorb Granville Street downtown. As a person who's lived in the region and has watched Granville since the late '90s, I hope that you'll trust me when I say that you can be between two worlds here: It was quite a seedy district up until about '05, and has been gradually gentrifying ever-since. Understandably, if you don't have the guts to walk E Hastings Street around Main, then this is your connection to the old world of Vancouver. The architecture harkens back to a time when the streetcar was king of the street; look up when you are there, because everything surrounding this district is clad in glass (there is, in fact, at the NE corner of Seymour and Robson, a building from the 1920s that has been re-purposed and clad in glass to match its surroundings); if you blink, this neighbourhood will be fully gentrified. BTW, *always* trust the restaurants that you eat at in the Vancouver region - tight regulation dictates that no one-offs get to serve you junk food. 3:22 Relatively recently this block of road (Robson, between Howe and Hornby) was fully 'pedestrianized' by the City of Vancouver, and it has become quite the gathering place since. 3:36 Big and awesome building because it was built as a courthouse in 1931 and became the art gallery in 1983 (remember that the city was only established in 1886; before then, the transcontinental railway only went to Port Moody - interestingly now served by SkyTrain). I mean, who builds an art gallery that looks like that? lol (this building will be repurposed in the coming years as the gallery has outlived its needs) 3:48 My directionally-challenged mother swears by this rule. Want to get directions downtown? Find the mountains and you're generally pointed north. 4:04 Do it! Do it! Do it! From a local, this is the cheapest boat tour in town, *and* you get to visit an awesome market on the north side to boot! GTV: 'Loving the steam clock trance. 5:00 Sorry to say, "Blood Alley" - though based in some form of reality - is in fact the remnants of a 1970s era tourist-draw. Up-until recently, even the streets were paved with bricks, but this too was done as a tourist draw in the 1970s. The good news is that an urbanization move of the same period was blocked by determined Vancouverites; because of their gumption, about half of this historic - origins of the city - area was not demolished. 6:25 I bet a friend during the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games that I knew where #99 Wayne Gretzky was headed in the back of a pickup truck and won $5 for knowing he'd be heading here. If it means something to you, the cauldron uses natural gas. 6:38 Douglas Coupland ( www.coupland.com ) created this work. I first knew him as an author when I was growing up, but, like folks such as Walt Disney and Alexander Graham Bell, he has many disciplines. You might actually see his rotating installation work on the grounds of the Vancouver Art Gallery. 6:48 *DO* walk (or, especially, bike) the Seawall west of Canada Place! 'Best recomendation yet! 7:24 Again: Enjoy these ancient touches of architecture before they're gone. The entire area is rife for development. 7:39 S'all good, but they're *Canada* Geese. No worries, easy to mistake. To a lesser extent, also stay away from - or, rather, keep your food away from - seagulls. 8:44 "...And if you decide that this is a mistake..." lol. 9:06 3 Km is about 1.86 Miles 9:11 Notice that there is no sign denoting this as a SkyTrain line? The Canada Line is actually a P3 (Public-Private Partnership, so it's operated by a private company), so technically it isn't even a SkyTrain, but we all still call it that. -- 'Figured that I'd add my two cents for once. Thanks for these vids. They really do make us look as awesome as we are!

Drink some booze and enjoy a delishious meal, expensive too but this place will be your best facebook/Instagram photo posts! It’s called Top of Vancouver Restaurant and is the #1 place you should not miss! It revolves for views so get that cell phone on panorama settings! All the areas in this video are seen from way up in the restaurant. You don’t have to walk all over the city, you’ll see enough right here! Most interesting parts of Vancouver is basically all in this video. There’s nothing much to Vancouver. It’s not a shitty place nor is it all that glamorous. Most people just do their chores, pay their taxes, walk their dog or something, maybe go shopping…really Vancouver is for people who like fresh air and fresh seafood, walking their dogs, do a bit of fishing and gardening, biking, some camping that sort of thing. Our pace is really slow and chill and there’s not much happening in Vancouver throughout the year in general lol. Most worth your while would be the Richmond Night Market, just don’t park here, it’s just off of Bridgeport station anyways. It opens from May to October. Another equivalent would be PNE, which has been here much longer. And gay pride, off Davie, July and August, and Italian day, which is off Commercial. But yea, Vancouver is a foodie paradise lol. If you like Shakespearean stuff, there’s Bard on the Beach, but it’s not really much, there’s all sorts of concert things here and there in Vancouver but you really have to be patient with this. Also, Chinatown is not Chinatown. Compared to other places, the Chinese community is really spread out here but it’s definitely diverse and strong. Richmond is where it’s at. Also, Burnaby. Metrotown and Brentwood are malls people go. Chinese malls we have Aberdeen, Crystal, Parker place, Yaohan, Continental, and more. And the Chinese food reflects that. One of the best in North America in terms of Chinese food.

@melissah9270
@melissah9270 4 года назад

I'm so sorry for Canada. Most things about a good Canada are not true, Including clean cities - beaches, and forests. It's a big lie. The first time I arrived in Vancouver in 2018, I was shocked. As soon as I left the airport door, I saw tissue, disposable glasses, and other garbage left in the city. The further I went, the more I saw them. Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, The United States, and for a short time in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Netherlands, Germany, and England, but I have never seen the amount of garbage that people leave in different Canadian cities. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec are no less than Vancouver. Canadian and Canada Governments don't care about this tragedy. I think everything that says about Canada as a clean and powerful culture is not true. You don't need to travel to Canada to see this. Just watch some videos about walking in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec. You will find the truth. Impossible for you to walk in a Canadian city and you don't see the dark side of that. Everywhere you will see garbage. You will never see this in Europe, Australia, the United States, Japan, and Korea. This amount of waste is not even seen in Malaysian, Indonesian, or Thailand cities. It is impossible for you to use public transport and not see a lot of garbage at stations or on the route. You will be surprised to find a lot of garbage even in the woods - by the rivers and on the beaches in Canada. I wish the Canadians woke up and had no enmity with their country. To be fair, I randomly looked at videos from downtown Manchester and Concord in New Hampshire - Philadelphia - Detroit - Chicago - New York - Baltimore - Denver - Nashville, and Knoxville in the United States, and Toronto - Quebec - Montreal - Winnipeg - Calgary - Vancouver - Victoria - Ottawa and Thunder Bay in Canada. we should be fair. The bitter truth must be accepted. Without any exaggeration. Completely impartial. I have to say that I didn't see a single piece of garbage in any of the US videos to convince myself. Without exaggeration, in all Canadian cities, there must have been a piece of garbage on the ground less than every hundred meters. It must have an important reason. I do not know. But this is a bitter truth. You can try. This country should be brought closer to its exaggerated claim. the truth is bitter. Certainly, some Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and even Malaysia are much cleaner compared to Canada. Of course, we should not forget that Canada claims to be one of the 10 cleanest countries in the world. And Vancouver claims to be one of the 5 cleanest cities in the world. Please go to East Hastings or Victoria Drive or Commercial Drive or West Georgia or Broadway or Main Street and judge for yourself. I am 50 years old and have traveled to 26 countries. Canada is far from its claims. I saw, homeless people, pooping and peeing everywhere and it's so common. nobody cares. I was shocked again. I endured for 3 years but every day going worst. late in 2022, I decided to move to the east because I thought that place has a stronger culture. I chose Montreal. I had heard it is the capital of art and civilization in Canada. it was absolutely wrong. Canada is Canada. I was shocked again, again, and again. the wave of homelessness, graffiti, vandalism, bad smell, terrible infrastructure especially roads in or out of the city, and above all, you can see trash everywhere. plastic bags, tissues, water bottles, and disposable cups. You cannot see any street or park or public place without these. This is impossible. surprisingly nobody cares. neither the people nor the government!!!!!!! please, don't be fooled by the advertisement about a good Canada. please, be careful. most of the things about a good Canada are deception This country is disappointing. Please, Please, Please, don't immigrate to Canada you would regret it absolutely. this is not a developed country, Canada is a developing country with huge serious problems.

First time I arrived to Vancouver in 2018, I shocked. As soon as I left the airport door, I saw tissue, disposable glasses and other garbage left in the city. The further I went, the more I saw them. Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, The United States and for a short time in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, , Netherland, Germany and England, but I have never seen the amount of garbage that people leave in different Canadian cities . Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec are no less than Vancouver. I'm so sorry for Canada. Canadian and Canadian Government don't care about this tragedy. I think everything say about Canada as a clean and powerful culture is not truth. You don't need travel to Canada to see this. Just watch some video about walking in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec. You will find the truth. Sometime you think they are enemy to their country
