Afol & The Kid discuss Lego boxes and what to do with them. Store them? Squash them? stack them? Pack them? Recycle them? Build a fort?
How much do Lego boxes increase set value?

Depends on the set for me. If its a larger set, I cut the seals on both sides and flatten them and save them. I save all the boxes and instructions for my modular sets and UCS sets because that DOES impact the resale amount quite a bit. I actually just sold the box and instructions to the Chicago Architecture set for $50, so there is a market. I glued the set to a shadow box so it will never go back in the box so that's why I decided to finally sell it. Great topic for a video! I've wondered what others do regarding the boxes and this video and the comments are great! First time to your channel and subscribed! Can't wait to see more videos.

Thanks so much for your comments and for being part of our channel. That's why we keep them.... but when space is limited it's a weigh up of whether they will get damaged or whether its worth protecting them for postage in the future. Selling just the boxes and manuals though now that's a thought! But postage is quite expensive here in the UK. It's definatley a good idea though 😁 will have to look into that

I always keep the boxes and instructions. To me they’re as much a part of the set as the bricks and pieces.

Not Lego related, but I just love the dynamic between you two. It makes me smile every time. Awesome video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I cut out the picture to use as reference when I'm working on a MOC mixing different sets. I just put the piece of cardboard in the tray with the pieces of the set.

That's a good idea when making your own creations. Do you break all of your sets down for pieces?

I’m considering just keeping the boxes for the iconic sets: UCS Slave One, Bugatti etc. This is the theory but ............

I think that may be our plan.... but it's difficult to decide what's iconic 🤔

I kept the torn down boxes on the shelf for a couple of years but late last year, I realized that I needed more shelf space. I ended up cutting up the boxes and keeping the best pictures which gave me back roughly half a shelf. I have a feeling that eventually I will have to learn to throw them all out but for now that is where I am. And don't get me started on instruction books...heavy sigh...

Seems a good compromise for the time being..... but like you say I think we all know we have let go of the boxes.....eventually 😂 but one day never seems to be today....or tomorrow

I'm at the point where I have to let the boxes go. You made a good point when you said there's so many collectors out there these days, the sets are made in such huge numbers these days the boxes are really not that rare. I have too many of them and they're taking up too much valuable space. I have flattened them down, but still. I'll probably try to make some sort of collage with some of the artwork and put it on the wall, so I can actually see it.

It's a tough call.... but I think once they are gone you qont keep them again. Manuals too.... wont be long before Lego goes digital only. Best of luck with separation anxiety. You can do it!!!!

I tend to toss my boxes and keep the instructions for future reference. It's on my todo list to make a nice binder for all the smaller instruction books and sheets.

It's a good plan for sure. I fo wonder what with instructions all being available digitally....whether Lego will even print them for much longer 🤔
