🌼2023 Update 🌼: I ended up planting these 90 'Pipit' Daffodils on my balcony in the fall. This last method I shared in the video was an experiment, but it seems to work because they all bloomed beautifully this spring 😊

This is so helpful, thank you! It seems like most other bulb gardening videos have tons of planters or garden bed space to work with. So happy to finally find some info for container only gardens with limited space. Excited to see how my bulbs do!

Thanks for all the info you gave in your video. I didn't knew that the tulips are not blooming again, good I looked the video before taking care of the bulbs

Glad that you liked it! Yeah, they tend to come back better when planted directly in ground in the garden, but it pots they will not perform as well as in the first year unfortunately.

Super useful this video! Ok now I know what to do with my crocus which are all dried. I bought quite a lot of tulips actually in Amsterdam and they are now blossoming, I will try to keep them after that. I also have a bag of tulip bulbs that I bought (outside) Keukenhof, good price by the way, but those I have to plant them in the fall. Now I was not a great fan of daffodils but seeing your video, well you convinced me!

Happy to hear that you enjoyed this video 🥰! Haha I am obsessed with Daffodils! They are my favorite cause they all look so different and unique! I bought some Tulips for my grandma in Amsterdam last year and she said that they came back and bloomed beautifully in her garden this spring. Hopefully yours will do the same ☺️!

Excellent presentation. You are a wealth of knowledge. I will carefully remove my daffodils from the pot and then let them dry out in my garage. Do you have a video presentation on how to plant them and what time of year should I plant them in my flower bed for next Spring blooming? Thank you!👍

Hello, cette vidéo tombe à pic demain je m'occupe justement des bulbes de printemps que j'avais planté en pot 😊 Le feuillage est bien séché et retombant j'ai attendu un bon moment pour que les bulbes se rechargent hihihi Par contre j'ai une question pour les bulbes de muscari car j'ai vu qu'ils font comme des "cosses" rondes est-ce qu'il y a des graines à l'intérieur que l'on meut récolter pour les semer ? J'ai du muscari directement dans la pelouse qui pousse tout seul chaque année au pied de notre cerisier j'adore 🥰 et plus les années passent plus il y en a, j'ai supposé qu'ils se resemait tout seul. Mais là en pot je me dis que peut-être on peut récolter d'éventuelles graines ? As-tu une information à ce sujet ? Merci d'avance pour ta réponse et pour cette super vidéo 😊

Merci beaucoup! Je suis ravie que tu as trouvé cette vidéo utile ☺️ ! La plupart des bulbes se reproduisent par division souterraine, où le bulbe mère produit de nouveaux bulbes bébés sur le côté. Les cultiver à partir de graines pourrait être une expérience intéressante ! Je n'ai pas essayé personnellement par contre cela peut prendre 2-3 ans avant qu'ils mûrissent et produisent des fleurs... donc faut être très patiente haha! Il faudrait les semer en automne car elles auront besoin d'une période froide pour germer 🌿 Bon maintenant que mes bulbes sont rangés, je vais tranquillement regarder ta vidéo d'hier ☺️ Bonne soirée!

Je trouve tes vidéos toujours très intéressantes! J'ai semé au dessus des bulbes. Crois-tu que ça fonctionne? Autre question! Où conserves -tu les bulbes?

C'est toujours un plaisir d'apprendre que vous aimez mes vidéos, merci 🥰! Je les mets dans un sac en papier et apres dans une boîte en carton, posée où je trouve de la place dans mon appartement. Gardez-les dans un endroit sec et frais et ça devrait aller. Super idée de semer les graines de fleurs au dessus! Si elles germent bien, je ne vois pas la raison pour laquelle cela ne fonctionnerait pas 🌸

bonjour, j'ai regardé cette vidéo après celle de ce samedi "réponses aux questions" et j'aimerais rajouter une question concernant des jacinthes d'intérieur qui ont merveilleusement fleuri en janvier, février et dont les tiges ont continué à pousser quand j'ai coupé les fleurs fanées, nous sommes en mai et elles commencent tout juste à un peu jaunir, qu'est ce que j'en fait? je coupe? je laisse sécher? je les sors du pot? merci pour votre aide et bon weekend

Bonjour! Traitez-les comme n'importe quelle autre bulbe. Laissez les feuilles mourir naturellement et coupez-les. Déterrez le bulbe, coupez les racines et laissez-les sécher pendant quelques jours. Stockez ensuite les bulbes dans un sac en papier jusqu'à ce que vous soyez prête à les planter à l'extérieur en automne. Il est également possible de les garder en pots en permanence (c'est-à-dire dans vos jardinières à l'extérieur)

How much rain do you get? It is really surprising that your bulbs do not in containers. I have been gardening on my small open North (slightly NW) facing balcony for 15'x5' (5+ years) in zone 7b. I have grown just about everything annual and perennial, but spring bulbs have been a 100% disappointment. They rot everytime no matter I plant in terracotta, add 40% perlite to the potting mix, shelter it from winter rain...BTW, I grow roses, clematis, honey suckle, dahlias successfully with the 4-6 hours sun available at the edges of the balcony from April to September (max sun in June and July) with sun exposure mostly coming from overhead and then west. I heard you say in another video saying you don't grow Dahlias because of lack of sun. How much sun do you get during the growing season?

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that! Well in this case I guess it's best to dig them out indeed. I personally have never had one bulb rot and we do have a lot of rain in summer and autumn. Last summer it rained literally every single day for a month. That's amazing that you get to grow all these flowers! I bet your balcony looks lovely 😍! 6h of sun that's a lot actually and it is sufficient for most sun loving plants and vegetables. The afternoon sun that comes from the west is also more intense than morning sun which is my case. My balcony is north-east facing. The planters on the railing get at max 4h of morning sun, the ones on the floor get less, some of them none, as the balcony wall casts shadow on them. I tried to grow Dahlias, they did not produce many flowers and the flower heads didn't develop properly due to lack of sun.

@@17m2garden My bulbs rot away BEFORE they bloom! I have had slim to none success in trying to get bulbs to survive let alone bloom. They need to be out for the winter chill but the rains and cold combined seems to get them every time, no matter how well draining the mix. Only a corner of my balcony gets six hours, that too when the day s are the longest, for a month or two. I have had other problems growing Dahlias and have given up on them. The year they did the best, there was a broad mite infection (came from some African violets) that distorted, stunted and wilted the dahlia and messed with a bunch of other plants including peppers. It's amazing how many pests and diseases can afflict plants, more so when they are living to cheek to jowl! But hey, it is hard to stop growing/getting more and more plants..Yes, the balcony looks great for a few months. I do start a lot of annuals from seed and it sometimes appears that the time it takes from seed to first bloom is as much as the time they put out a good display. :)

BTW, how wide is your balcony? I have a railing and not a wall and that certainly helps with the sunlight a bit. I also have two 4' long narrow benches that I place against the railing on the eastern corner to elevate the plants so they can get more sunlight, especially because the railing planters are competing for and blocking the sunlight. Every year I optimize the sunlight a bit more. I also have a 5-6' narrow Ikea wooden stand in the east corner.

@@sarikasingh2150 Oh that is so frustrating! One of my followers on IG told me that she also experienced bulbs rotting in the past (she lives in zone 6 or 7) but she was determined to make them grow. She said that now she never waters her bulbs after planting and when it gets really cold and rainy in winter she places the pots in a tiny, zippy greenhouse that she has on her balcony and it works for her. But that sounds like a lot of effort tbh. I personally think that it's best to focus on plants that grow well instead of trying to force something that is not suitable for either our climate or particular conditions. My balcony is about 1.2m wide. Haha the things we do for our plants! But it's very clever to use benches! I often reverse one pot and place another pot on top of it to elevate plants.

@@17m2garden I actually made those benches myself so they would be the right height and width. 😀 I also use tomato cage wires as plant stands to elevate them - that way there is space to put another less light demanding plant underneath it, same with benches! It really is great to see you and some others here doing full fledged gardening on balconies and providing so much useful content and motivation to others. I stick out like a weirdo in my housing complex with a colourful jungle/motley crew of plant s on their balcony. Most balconies are bare, only a handful have a couple of railing planters. When there's a storm/wind advisory, they just take down their 2/3 planters and are all set. I spend a good 10/15 minutes tucking away vulnerable plants in corners along the wall. Unfortunately, the sunniest spots are also the most windy.
