Most respectful and accurate Indiana food video I have seen. I would suggest next time you go to a drive in try a coney dog. Also Steak and Shake used to be a lot better, but if you want to original burger in that style, check out Workingmans friend.
You're literally the only travel RU-vidr I've seen who got Indiana RIGHT! Everyone else either talks about the same ol' same ol' stuff from Indianapolis or Carmel. You went outside of those areas and showcased the parts most travel RU-vidrs don't go or care to talk about. I'm from New York City originally, but have lived in Indiana for the last 15 years. The state has its issues, but it's a really cool place with a rich history. My husband is from Elwood, IN, and to see his eyes light up from you mentioning Red Gold and Pizza King made my day. 😁 Definitely hope you and your family swing by again. Evansville has the amazing Fall Festival in October, and there are some beautiful areas to hike. Also, I HIGHLY recommend Workingman's Friend in Indianapolis, for the best damn smashed burger you'll ever have!
Great recommendations! You definitely included some of the lesser known treats like sugar pie and persimmon pudding. I'm from Indiana and I never realized RedGold ketchup was a Hoosier thing. If you're near Bloomington, hit Mother Bear's pizza!! It earned a national recognition as one of the best pizzerias in the country, and it is well-deserved! Also French Lick Winery has the best fruit wines I've ever had.
Great video Mark! You’re literally in our town, we’re born and raised in Marion, and I’d recognize that house and the menu board at Myers Drive-in anywhere!
Fried bologna sandwich. I grew up there in the 60's and the few times we ate out it was always in the car, A&W was a fav and Steak & Shake had car hops on roller skates. 1st place I ate inside was Burger Chef when I was 7, stools that spun around, oh baby.
I was camping at Brown County State park the first time. At around 7am there was an extremely lomg line outside a restaurant for the biscuits and gravy. It was very good.
We also have a lot of cafes where the Greeks food and cafes and they have everything but they have this homemade soups and we're lot to eat lemon rice soup and we have a burger joint joint called schoop's burgers feel like a smashburger they been around for a long time and they have a Green River pop that's amazing we also have a zel's roast beef it can be plain or it could be barbecued and they also have the best shakes ever and we have a pizza that's called Aurelio's is a thin got a sweetness to it and John's Pizza have that crumble sausage
That lemon rice soup is Avgolemono. It's my favorite food and I make it for the boys at least once a month. Not as good as my Yiayia's, yet. Mark doesn't live it as much as we do though. 😂
Awesome thanks for the video and particularly all the footage from my hometown of Kokomo! My go-to place when I go back is Missy's Family Restaurant north side of downtown, fantastic breakfast food in a very quaint place. Foxes Den on the Wildcat Creek is a pretty good place too. And there are two great Japanese restaurants as well, one at Kokomo Mall and the other in Forest Park shopping center. We know how people always get fresh orange juice in Florida. You should always get fresh cantaloupe in Indiana, best in the world! While Indiana is known for corn the number two crop is soybeans, so that soy sauce or edamame you're eating may have been grown in Indiana. After architecture college at Ball State I lived in Chesterton in Northwest Indiana for many years and I still go back to the area for business. As an architect. Michigan City (Yes, it's in Indiana, not Michigan) is starting to be a good foodie place with new restaurants opening up. Three that stand out are Fiddleheads, Miller's Pub downtown, and Bartlett's fish camp on the lake. In "The Region" Tiebels in Schererville at US 30 and 41 is also popular. But to me, the three best restaurants in the area are: Wagner's Ribs in Porter, best ribs you will ever have I guarantee. Lucretia's Italian in Chesterton, you will love the old house and outdoor patio as much as the food. Don Quixote in Valparaiso with its Madrid, chef and Carlos who also organizes food tours back to his home country every year. All three of those are on the high end but worth every penny. Another great upscale place is Tippecanoe Place In South bend in the old Studebaker Mansion. And it's been years since I've been to Fort Wayne, but it seems like most of the restaurants are owned by Don Hall.
@@timmmahhhhwe rented it via airbnb for a weekend. I did a video on it on the main WW channel. It's from an arch history/preservationist perspective..
Ah, yes, fish from the pristine waters of the southern part of Lake Michigan. Always wondered about the fishermen I saw while driving on the Skyline. ☠️
@@TrevorS7 I live in Redkey.......Lived all around the U.S. and Indiana, has no food style.......I like it here but the food is I would say, is the worst out of the 9 states i have lived.
@HolyDiverBronco I have traveled all over the country and the world. If you can't find good food here, you aren't trying or are just nostalgic for your home food. Indiana literally invented the smash burger and has some of the best tomatoes and corn in the world. Also, you are practically in Ohio, where you live.
@@TrevorS7 That is my point.....If you have to travel to find good food in Indiana, it means there is not many good places to eat here......Plus, traveling the country and living in many states, is not the same thing.......In Indiana, most people think banana peppers are hot. Making a dish of bread, gravy a a little meat, is not what i call something special.
