I have no any music history from my highschool. I have actually not held any musical instrument before. I applied for music major at the university and got admitted. I've heard you talk about auditions, and now am worried on how it's going to be for me who knows nothing.

Hi! I think it really depends what kind of music degree you're going for. I was specifically going for a performance degree, and a performance career. Generally performers have had some amount of training before college, but maybe is different for other areas of music- I'm not so familiar with other areas, though.

My classes begin on Monday. I was was excited, but I just looked the the syllabi for my professors, and now I feel nervous. I am a Music Composition major, but still, I have to take a keyboard proficiency class. I play the piano well, but the unfortunate thing is that I have been mostly self taught, because no adequate classes were offered at my high school. That being said, I'm worried that I might get a bad grade on exams because I do different fingering or something different than I'm supposed to. The rubric for that class only has grades A, B, C, D, and F on 5 exams, not in-between. I always have gotten As from K-12, but this professor seems like she'll give me a B right away with only one mistake. (As a side-note, 12:10 cracked me up)

Hi! Thanks for checking out my channel :) I'm guessing you'll be totally fine in the piano class. Expectations vary depending on the school's curriculum, but many people go in to college piano with very little to no piano training (myself included). It's nearly impossible to comprehend as a soon-to-be student, but grades don't matter that much in the long term for musicians. Obviously, you want to pass, or you'll never complete your degree and move on to the next stage. On the other hand, getting straight As in school doesn't necessarily make you a better musician. Someone looking to employ a composer or musician cares A LOT more about how your music sounds than your GPA in college, if that makes sense. I even would venture to say they do not care at all about your grades... Much more important: your ability to communicate and work with others, conduct yourself professionally, and the quality and integrity of your work (obviously). Hope that helps! It's very odd that there is this thing about pretending to resent a class which you actually enjoy it comes across as cool and aloof that's one thing I can't stand about some musicians and is a drag on one's emotions for heaven's sake cheer the fuck up

@Alyse Hokamp yes OK a bad attitude might be right it's actually about deluded arrogance especially when they have something to learn and about impressing others when they still have their training wheels on and also disrespectful to those who are teaching them
