Your Video makes me Mis the West Coast. I have grass growing under my Feet been off the Road for to Long.Dont mis the B.S.But Love to see the beautiful west again.Thank you for help keeping America fed and clothed.
Thank You Rob I’ve drove 10yrs with Schneider National Carries, I’ve been all over this United States and also to Quebec Ontario twice more miles than a lot of their driver and other drivers, my license is very clean, just saying but I do appreciate your reply post and again Thank You and Be Safe Out There, Liangele04.
When you hire on, you usually start out as an "extra" 5/2 driver. That means five days on then two days off. As you gain "longevity", you can bid on programs such as a 6/3, a 5/2-5/3, or a 5/5. That's five days working then five days off. You may share a truck with one of two other drivers, depending on the program you are on. On a 6/3 for example, three drivers share two trucks. So yes, that is slip seating. But once you are on a "program", you keep the same tractor(s) week in and week out. When you first start, you may have to swap trucks during the week but you usually keep the same truck all week unless you break down and the shop can't fix it quickly. If you're on a "regular" 5/2 and have an assigned tractor, your tractor might be used while you are on your two days off. You are expected to fuel and clean the truck before you go home. The DCs (distribution centers) you work out of have automatic wash bays and vacuum cleaners on site as well as fueling facilities. There are showers at the DCs for Walmart associates to use. And every one I've been to has an ice machine or Reddy Ice there so you can ice down your cooler, although most tractors have refrigerators. All sleeper cabs have APUs. Some DCs have cafeterias but most grocery DCs only have vending machines. Hope that helps anyone who might be considering Walmart Transportation.
I quit the road and I ended up getting screwed ten times worse driving local! After hurricane Katrina I came home, off the road for a job driving dump trucks rebuilding the cities levee protection system and since it's completion rebuilding the cities infant structure and roads. I drove for individua that owns their trucks but I was classed as self employed. Just to be treated as an owner of some sort I received 1099's because the owner didn't want to pay for workman's compensation or something. Well, I went under in my taxes that I could not afford to pay while making pre Katrina wages and a raised rent situation in the affected area. All without any benefits, workers compensation, insurance, 401k, retirement savings, state withholdings, etc, etc. I found myself stuck in this trend but I could not get past the fact of giving up all my time completely for the slightly higher pay to run OTR again. Now all these years later and I'm ready for a break from it all as they are finally taking about raising the pay to a semi reasonable amount. My my financial life is ruined thanks to trucking which has been my greatest passion since a child!!! and I still haven't given it up but my days are numbered I'm just worn out from being broke. I've never even been able to afford a vacation. Now I find myself taking great and even unthinkable sacrifices to save a little bit of money! My job...It's stolen my pride many times but I pushed on through it all just like a trucker does... through the rain sleet and snow night desert mountains cities bad accidents and chicken coops. I even felt the shame when the McDonald's workers pay raise to $15 would match my maximum pay for all I deal with including my life and others! Will I ever see my justification ? With my finances in ruin all I see is trouble for me and never living more than pay check to pay check then having to pay my own taxes but from what? And why? I don't own a business or a truck? I'm just an underpaid employee who loves his job! I didn't even know they had a lawsuit going on.
40+broke never accept a 1099 working for a company that’s not yours and equipment your using isn’t yours either. Most states, that’s illegal. For obvious reasons you experienced.
Well Andrew, the insurance is great for me. Here in California it gave us a chance to pick I believe from 3 to 4 different companies. I have no complaints. Ask your recruiter what insurance companies are offered to you
I drove OTR for about 23 years, 12 as an o/o. We made great money, and home every weekend. I quit March 2018. Sold my truck and trailer. Why you ask? E-LOGS!! For 23 years I ran 18-20 hours a day. That was the only way I knew how to run. Keep the left door shut, and run like the wind!! There was no way in the world I was going to sit in a truck stop for 10 hours , and stare at the trees. Oh well, all good things must come to an end...
E-logs are a lot different than paper...and not all bad. Here, if you are under a load that delivers tomorrow, you run until you are almost out of time then shut down for at least 10 hours. You can lay over at most Walmarts and Sams Clubs or in any Walmart DC. I say "most" Walmarts because some localities have restrictions. If you have arrived at a DC and it is late in your day, or you are awaiting your next dispatch, you can either take the dispatch and start out or simply shut it down for the night. You often pull loads that don't have to be there until tomorrow. That lets YOU choose where and when to shut down. I personally try to stay out of Peelots and Flying Toilet Bowls. Far too many rookies and I'm not fond of my truck getting beat up while I'm trying to sleep.
They need to get rid of e-logs. Not being able to drive for 10 hrs. & have to sit at a rest/truck stop for 10 hrs. is stupid. The gov't passed this law to run o/o out of business. How about 6-8 hrs. at the most for being forced off the road? 10 hrs. of waiting & sleep has crossed the line into infringing on a trucker's right to reasonably provide for himself/work & an infringment on a right to the pursuit of happiness, under the Constitution.
The problem with the industry is that drivers don’t demand decent pay for 10 or so hours. They instead, wanna work 18-20 hours a day to make a decent living.
Just as a reminder that Walmart does not hire new drivers without over the road experience. They require a minimum of 3 yrs experience. If you recently got your cdl, make your to first go over the road with a well known carrier that hires new drivers. Hope this helps
@@flyboy8364 that's I very good question, I have seen the weirdest surcomstances. Walmart does require 3 yrs otr but I heard some one get in similar to your situation. I would encourage you to apply. It wouldn't hurt, use me as a reference. I believe it would to get you an interview. Hope this helps.
Walmart Rob Thanks for this video it was really helpful. I currently work for a company out of Fargo called Magnum LTD they’re a reffer company and I’ve been with them since 10/2016 they was my first and only OTR CDL A company I’ve been with since I graduated truck driver training school. I have worked for the Delaware Dept of Transportation driving paratransit buses for 3 years. I’m looking to work for Wal-Mart but I see where they’re asking for 3 years experience. Im currently a trainer with the company I’m with now and have no points or moving violations does Wal-Mart give any credit towards the 3 yrs from previous driving positions? If not no biggie I won’t have that long to go to hit the mark. Also what kind of routes do you take if I’m living in lets the northeast ( Delaware/Philly/South Jersey) area, do you guys get out west at all what’s Walmart’s policy for inclement weather such as blizzards etc. thanks for taking the time to answer an inform us on driving for Wal-Mart.
Thanks for the video. I remember in the 90's when I was a OTR driver Wal-mart had a excellent reputation for drivers. I don't know anything about the past 20 yrs but I do know that the local Walmart store has signs up in the parking lot about hiring truck drivers. I never saw this before they posted those in Dec and that is sort of curious.
There all quitting I retired after 22 yrs there because a back injury but everyone I was hired with in1995 none work there anymore after 2010 they went down hill
I applied for walmart.. had 15 yrs otr..over 1 million miles..walmart not enough experience.drivers were snow white back then and it was kept that way for years. Now wm driver ads everywhere now..shitty pat
That's what happens when you "Unionize" you are just a number that they are trying to terminate before you can collect a full retirement and benefits !!
There’s a new mini series called “D.O.T , it’s a trucker series coming out every Wednesday at 8PM on choice Mas channel. You can see the introduction and the trailer on both mines and choices channel.. but the episodes will be on choice Mas channel.
I think it depends on area I seen 2.5 years now so 30 months witch is ok with me because I’ll be driving locally so to speak (home every day) so thankfully I’ll be hitting 30 making 90k a year average so I’m excited for that
so we have to have 3 years experience? so working at a trucking company like prime inc or schneider count towards that? both are otr. I going to get my cdl training through them and stay for 2-3 years just for the experience them im going to move on to something better
5/2 not bad at all. My current carrier requires 21 out minimum and 1 day for 7. The biggest drawback is starting off at bottom. It takes years to work up the ladder typically. Gotta go thru all that "see what your made of" with a new company. The difference the money will bring would make it all worth it. If be game for it.
When putting in a application , does Walmart allow you to apply for a driver job in other areas besides the state you live? Say I live in NM but would be willing to relocate to Nevada, for example.
When you figure the hours you work , its decent pay. If you make $25 an hour and get 30 hrs overtime ( for your 70 hr week ) you would make $110,000 a year.
So pay is California usual, LA to Fresno pays me $120,00 a year to drop and hook Monday through Friday, home every night and on the weekend.. That’s 20 years and over 2 million miles with the same company
Slip seating is why all the experienced drivers are leaving! I hear they are now slip seating the 3 Million mile drivers. Slip seat and driver cameras thats how you run off drivers. My dad worked for Walmart from 1994-2017 as a driver out of Porterville, CA (now retired) He was even tried (he told them if they don't give him a load back he was going to Bob tail his truck back and quit) to be kept out on Christmas several times. He has 7 grandchildren and two children. After about 2010 or so they started treating him like crap and starting giving him crappy loads in 2016 (keep in mind he had been driving for 50+ years and ex oilfield driver he worked) He is a fill in now for a sand co. and he climbs under his trucks works on them, spends HIS time and money fixing the trucks, has not had a ticket since 1993, owned several trucks at one time. His boss did not understand why they were doing this to him at Walmart. He had a rep by the shop mechanics for taking EXTREMELY good care of his trucks I've seen his trucks after he got rid of his last one. A 2010 Freightshaker Cascadia it was spotless, looked brand new. Don't go to Walmart any more dad said it used to be a great co. but not no more. Keep in mind dad is 72 going on 73 years old.
I'm sorry to hear about your dad's experience at porterville. But decided not to sleep seat the 3 million mile trucks. No driver other than the 3 million miler has driven does trucks. Sorry hear about his experience though
There trucks are a pig pin. Lazy ass drivers never get out and use a wash brash. The back of the cabs never get cleaned. Very few drivers use the steam bay to wash the frame off and the back of cab.
Thanks for answering my questions..I’m sure I’ll have more in the future. I’ll have 30 months of verifiable experience in June 2019, though I did drive back in the 90’s. I may give Walmart a shot then, and I’ll be checking VA openings. Since you’ve been so nice about answering questions I’ll put you down as my reference. One thing I’ll want to know is, how are the benefits? Especially cost for family medical coverage. And how does the 21 paid days off work? Thanks! Bill
well bill as far as benefits go you'll have options depending where you live at anywhere from Kaiser to Blue Cross to United Healthcare. As low as 90 dollars for individuals and 128 for the whole family to 200 for the individual and 300 for the whole family bi weekly. Its actually up to 24 days off you can accrue. When you start it takes 150 hrs to accrue 1 day off. Easy way to understand it, 2 1/2 weeks worked equals 1 day off
Wow..that’s quite a nice thing to have paid days off. I know that every time I decide to take time off my paycheck takes a huge hit. One idea for a future video would be-what is the hiring process? Thinking about things like the road test, physical stress tests, etc.. Thanks again!
@@thevacuumtubejunky9774 it means the company does not assign you "your" own truck. This is supposed to optimize the use of trucks, enhancing profits, but what it really means is that no one takes care of anything, and you will always sleep in a bunk that some skeezy fkr slept in without showering, you always will have to clean up the mess of some slob who had the truck before you, and smell their sweaty ass and worse, their damn cigarettes.
@@theshocker4626 : Hmmm, well they can have that, one of my phobias is good hygiene, as a Locomotive Engineer by profession,we jockey trains up and down the mainline, one crew will take a train up to 12 hrs from a particular direction, and litteraly come into the depot and drop it off right at your feet, they exit on one side, I enter on the other, check my air, controls, switches ,paperwork tell the dispatch crew is ready and off we go. I literally carry a backpack with nothing but, Clorox wipes, spray, and rubber gloves, that's common practice in my trade. If you have to take a dump even if your doing 70 mph , it's mandatory you make yourself back to the second locomotive, no excuses. I could never sleep on a mattress. That some lazy greasy 320 lb pile rolled his sweaty nuts and ass all over for 10 friggen hours😝...pppffftt, not happening.
How long have you been with Walmart? I'm an owner operator, thinking about applying with Walmart at their Apple Valley Valley location. I live in Las Vegas Nv
Going on 2 yrs this January! It's been great. I do I encourage you to apply as soon as possible if your serious about coming aboard. They open up the positions for a few weeks and then close them. Make sure to put me down as a reference, so your app gets out to the front on the line ahead of those just applying without a reference. Hit that subscribe button and notification bell. You'll get my info for the reference on your app. Go luck!! Hope to see you around.
Rob for sure u gotta be happy driving 4 walmart, butttttttttt I'm an experienced driver that rise up $$$ its nothing compared with whole problems coming as walmart's driver ,I SAID NOT ,thank you so much.back in time they where pretty good company to work for,not any more, however hope they treat u well.
ABY G : this business has it coming. The industry can’t replace the generation that is close to retirement with younger people. Why drive when you can make $180,000 + in the tech industry.
@@bayview94124 check out "makecents" on you tube. He's an owner-operator with his own authority. He does videos showing (among other things) how to make the most of a load board. $6K-$8K a week is common if you choose your lanes carefully and negotiate for better rates.
@@bayview94124 Because you do not need to accumulate tens of thousands of dollars in student debt to be an OTR truck driver. Some own operators make around $180,000.
Walmart Rob Hey Thanks for sharing info!! Wanted to know if you apply with a certain Region of choice in my case SE Region do they make to do other regions first 6 months to Year or they put you to the region of request Thanks 🙏🏾
@@torianwilson5770 good question. I do know that what ever DC you apply for is the region your in. I do also know that they might ask you or you can ask your recruiter if they need drivers in the region of your choice. You might have to relocate. Hope this helps
Everything I read tells me it’s best to have a referral from a current or prior WAL-MART Driver but I don’t know anyone who works at WAL-MART so how can I get to know a driver for a referral?
Sorry it took a while to get back, but it’s a case by case thing. They allow you up to 1 point last I checked. But it would be great to see you come aboard.
When I got hired in 95 I came in on a truck I had 2 days got my paperwork to take another load the truck was gone my sleeping bag clothes on the floor of the shop in grease I damn near quit then I raised hell with the manager and they assigned me a truck right then I didn't take the load I went home to cool off I was ready to kick the drivers ass that threw my stuff on the ground they wouldn't tell me who it was
Hi Rob, could you tell me it the trucks are stick or automatic and what is the trucks are governed at? I was hoping the trucks were stick shift (10 speed or 13 speed) and governed at least at 70mph. Thank you brother. Kevin
@@Robert_Cedillos my recruiter told me it was automatics. I'll be working out the Grandview washington location. Doing my week training in oregon though.
Meh... I'm car hauler and i take 2-3 months off the year i thought about joining Walmart since all i have to do is pull a trailer but i don't think its for me
heres a tip: my first interview was great it was 2 drivers,2nd interview sucked it was 2 Office women about half way through one asked " what would you do if you ran over a dog " my answer was " pull over at safest place and check truck " guess I should have said stop and if dog was still alive call 911 and give it cpr tell cops showed up cause my interview ended on that stupid and that was with one speeding ticket 56 mph over Donner in California total in my driving otr before I retired?
The lack of drivers in the trucking industry just isn't for semi tractor trailer drivers it's for all drivers. I drive a front discharge Terex Advance concrete truck in the state of Indiana. Companies are practically begging for drivers. I made 52 thousand this past year in 2018. I thought about driving a semi tractor-trailer several times, but living out on the road is expensive and many times from what all my friends that drive over the road say you are stuck in a truck stop, at times waiting on a load and in fact begging on a load to get you back home. Truck Freight was deregulated by the congress and Senate under Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. if it was regulated today the trucking industry would have to change for the better. it can be done, but you can't have dirty politicians to do it for you, do to, to much corruption. Thanks for the videos Ron. Veteran and truck driver for Trump. Let's not just make America great again, let's make Trucking as a whole great again.
There is a BIG difference between "truckload" and "LTL" freight. Truckload (for most) means you go load then take it to deliver, usually staying out for days or weeks at a time. LTL uses a lot of terminals so the driver can drive to a destination terminal then change trailers and drive back home. Those guys are home every night and make a lot more than a trypical truckload guy. Far less road expenses and the mileage pay is usually much higher. Old Dominion, YRC, ABF, UPS Freight, Estes, and others are examples of LTL outfits. Some even have their own training programs.
Hi rob I dont know if you remember me or not but I Reached out to you not to long ago about me joining the wal mart fleet I just got my HAZmat test passed I did my finger print done now all I'm waiting for is the back ground to come back I called Plainview this morning about working out of Los lunas and the gave me some information so I tried to fill out the application but it was not on there. Is there something that I can do to get to the application fill it out and they late me know when a Position comes open. Any help will be greatly appreciated and thank you Again for all your help
Do you have a choice to go otr or drive in your home state and the next states over?, i live in Louisiana (Texas and Mississippi ) next to me and the reason i ask is because one driver say’s he works a 5 on 2 off and 5 on 3 off schedule based out of Florida.
Well LPG Gas Hauler, when you start out your tipicly on the schedule that the recruiter tells you over the phone. But from what I have witnessed at our DC, their is that possibility of them offering you a dedicated running lane. You definitely qualify with your experience and my honest suggestion is to do what is the best thing for you and your family. That's from what I have seen and not what Walmart says. I hope this helps you out.
Thank you. You where there to help our country during the country’s hardest times. At least I can say, I truly appreciate your support during hurricane Katrina
@@lovinlife3803 I don't recall seeing anyone other then mega carriers pulling thier frieght, besides company guys. So i guess you just gotta get a few thousand trucks and bid on it. Simple enough lol.
@Antonio Garrett lol funny you mentioned landstar. It's a coin toss between them and xpo. I run containers but it looks like there is a little more freedom with landstar. I have to do more research though. But from what I see, landstar is not that bad
On the accident with your son, you got a phone call, did you use the phone while working or was it during the 60 minutes allowed during the whole 14 hrs?
Hey rob how you doing ? I turn 21 in a couple weeks and I wanted to know what’s the best way to attain my cdl. Do you know how much the training/cost of license total comes out to ?
What state do you live in? If California, you have to go to a truck driving school. Also, you have to have had your class c license a min of 1 yr. Cost for school varies. If you just want to get your cdl I seen it as low as 1200 dollars and if you want all the training as high as 4900 dollars. Your application at the dmv is 69 dollars. If you are going to get your hazmat endorsement, you need to get TSA clearance and that cost 89 dollars. If i could start over i would have payed the 4900. They show you how to shift, drive and logging. They cover everything you need to be hired by a trucking company and not struggle when you get there
Thanks for the reply rob.I live with my wife in Ireland and we holiday in Florida and have been for the passed 15years.We are looking to live there in the next year or two so I will be there this year again. We will be staying Orlando,Miami and Tampa looking at homes. So what DC is closest
Just found your channel here and subscribed. I have 13+ years OTR and just signed on at Walmart out of Pottsville Pa. What can I expect during the on boarding week?
Depends on the program. And also you. About 95 percent of the are 5 days out and 2 days home. 5 percent is 6 days out and 3 days home. On the 5 day out you have the opportunity to stay out 1 extra day

Any information that you could help with would be Extremely appreciated ... Thank you. Keep up the good work brother and stay safe Beyond all else..
You pretty much have a good idea of what to expect here. I would highly recommend you apply. Your welcome to use me as a reference if you don’t already have one. You do seem to be a great addition to the private fleet.
To be able to get good drivers that care about their job, trucking companies as a whole will have to embrace Fair driver pay, if not they will not get the good loyal drivers and eventually they will be taken straight to the federal labor board and they will lose and not only will they have to pay their drivers a fair wage they will also pay a huge steep fine from the federal labor board and eventually some will even be forced out of business like CR England trucking.
Hey Rob, It's And rew again. How is it up there in Porterville? When I submitted my apps last week, I was actually considering submitting an application to the Porterville location. I submitted one to the Apple Valley, CA location, as I'm from Orange County. I'm in Texas now, but I would definitely be willing to relocate. Also, I've been watching some videos from others, some drivers and some not. Many of them are not speaking kindly of Walmart, mostly because they are saying Walmart is paying new drivers much less now. I heard .36cpm instead of .50cpm. I thought I would ask you, Since your videos are among the newest. Are you able to share any info about Porterville and the pay for new drivers? thx.
Is there a way you could recruit me on at Walmart after getting out of the army? I heard it’s hard to get on and Walmart seems like it is a very discipline company that levels itself as one of the best trucking companies in the world to work for from my opinion.
None so far, but once I get out the service I will tackle the road so I gain the appropriate amount of experiences needed for Walmart. The only driving experience I have is from driving in the military
hey I just got a email an call from a recruiter an asked if I was still interested in a trucking job I applied over 5 months ago a. jus heard something back. do you have to come in for interview or over phone ?
