You are of great help. Kindly consider some kind of one on one mentoring system for those entering the field as its easy to get demotivated without proper guidance
This has been very helpful, thank you so much for this. I find public health interesting because it not only has the life science focus, it also has the social science focus. This gives me a more holistic approach to addressing health issues in a population while I can even use a reductionist approach for specific health issues.
I have a biology degree with a minor in sociology. I was just accepted into a MPH program after being out of school for 3.5 years. So excited yet nervous at the same time. 😁😅
Hie May I ask what u were doing for the 3.5 years u were out of school? I just graduated n want to take up MPH but they need me to have at have been working for least 2 yrs, I’m wondering if there is a course related to public health I could do online for now as I’m home waiting to take an exam that would help me land a job
Graduated with my MPH 2 months ago. I have 5 years experience in public health. I cannot find a job for some reason and I don’t understand why. I thought earning an MPH would afford me more opportunities, but that is just not the case.
@@maame_5533 I do. I work for my state health department but it’s only entry level. I’m trying to get out of entry level employment to better fit my skills and experience.
Thank you Greg! I had watched several videos on public health and read job ads but still couldn't figure out what it really involved and all the different areas. Your video was so clear and informative. I have a question. I'm interested in public health but my bachelor's is in sociology. I studied some relevant areas (stats, social determinants of health, anthropology). Do you need a health/medical background for MPH and would I have poor career prospects without that experience? I'm wondering what educational backgrounds you see enrolling in a MPH.
@@Yandy_x My impression is there's too much competition with those from health profession backgrounds. PH jobs in my city often want people with professional health experience, any health-related degree, skills in project management, data analysis, research etc. but rarely require MPH. I'm interested in nursing so am considering becoming an RN, then maybe a master's if I'm still interested in PH. Looking at job ads it seems more valuable to first be a health professional, then get a master's in project management, research-based advanced nursing, or something more specific than general MPH like biostats or epidemiology. I wouldn't pursue PH as an early career and it seems more suited as a later career move / secondary to practical exp in health. I'm speaking from an Australian context tho so YMMV as PH is a vague field here.
Hello Greg, I have completed my Masters in Administrative Science in Global Health and Human Services Administration which consists similar curriculum as MPH- could you suggest me what to do achieve a job in this field? I am finding it so difficult to get a direction after finishing this course.
Dear Sir I am Vikrant from India I have completed bachelor of business administration & post graduate diploma in computer application I have worked 5 year healthcare tech industry I am interested join the master of public health should I am eligible for this course
I am applying for an MPH this fall. I find it challenging to choose a concentration area. There are MANY programs on SOPHAS to choose from. I am really confused, any advice how to choose a good program that align with our future goals? I am applying for a residency program after the MPH.
Great question Sarah - my feeling is that what you want to take away from your MPH is a good understand of epidemiology. If you have that you'll be able to apply it to any area of public health. When looking at programmes, I'd look for one with a strong epi focus unless you have a particular area of interest that is addressed by a particular programme.
Hey sarah! If you read this comment please let me know about your MPH journey i did my MBBS from pakistan and i want to apply for MPH . I need some advice if i should apply for MPH online and then the fee structure.
Hello. I have finished my MPH last 2021. My bachelor degree is Physiotherapy. Now I want to study PHD in abroad . How I can do that, anybody can advise me which subject will be better for PHD from public health sector? I want to build my career in public health sector.Thank you
Thanks for the detailed video. My niece is going to do her MPH from Australia, would you also or anyone reading this know if it helps them get a PR after completion. This would help us plan her further milestones.
Hi , currently doing Mph in Australia , I consulted agent after coming here and they told me that we need 1-2 years of experience in field after finishing masters to get PR
Hello. I am writing motivation letter for b.s in biological sciences, and here i mentioned that i would like to work in healthcare to solve the queue problems at hospitals as well as post surgery rehabilitation. Is it okay to write like that? Or things that i mentioned are not related to public health? Please I need your help 🙏🙏🙏
Great thought. The public health field is vast and constantly evolving, with opportunities in research, policy, global health, epidemiology, environmental health, and more. Many professionals choose to build on their MPH with work experience, further education, or both, to enhance their impact and reach their career goals. Ultimately, the "end goal" varies for each person, depending on their interests, career aspirations, and the difference they wish to make in the world.
I have a question and need some advice. Right now, I'm getting my MPH, and I'm unsure of what job field I should be in right now. I love the medical side of things and currently work in day surgery as a PCT, and I wonder in Gl as a tech and in the lab. While also having PRN caregiver Jobs on the weekends. After my MPH, I want to go for my DrPH, and I want to ensure I'm on the right track.
It doesn’t matter your bachelors degree majority of the time. It matters if you’ve completed a bachelors degree. I’m sure you can get into any masters program of your choice.
How much chance is there for getting job after doing MPH? I herd it's difficult to get job after completing MPH as well.I am public health student and I'm doing bachelor of public health in Nepal. I want to know income and possibility of getting job after MPH degrees ..
