I had the EAI procedure in Jan. 2023. Went well, and brought pain relief over 2-3 weeks. So far, so good. This team is very professional and communicates well. Highly recommend the clinic.

Getting my injection as recovery from herniated l5 s1 disc has been slow, not in much pain now but have weakness in hell as can't put weight on it as foot drops to the floor and still have slight numbness in foot and big toe, my consultant is giving me the injection without local anaesthetic and im so nervous that its going to be very painful getting the injection. 😭

I have Spondyloysthesis grade 1 with narrowing of the foraminal opening L5/S1. My nerve root is currently under pressure most of the time causing extremely painful sciatic. If I have RFA is there a risk that whilst being pain free I might also be systematically injuring my root nerve further without knowing?
@BloorPainSpecialists
@BloorPainSpecialists 2 года назад
Hi Tony G. Unfortunately, we aren't legally allowed to discuss your case specifically using an open online platform like RU-vid, but generally speaking, with RFA, a patient will lose feeling to small branches that provide feeling to joints so their arthritis can't be felt and does not hurt, not their nerve roots. Hence, if they move, they can feel nerve roots getting pinched. If a patient lost feeling to their L5 or S1 root, they would likely have trouble walking or may have weakness in their muscles too. That's why nerve roots aren't ablated. They undergo something called neuromodulation, or Pulsed RF Rhizotomy, which is just a different button on the same RFA machine. This does not remove feeling. It just lowers the volume so that the pain transmitted through the root is lessened and more tolerable.
@TonyG-iu4td
@TonyG-iu4td 2 года назад
@@BloorPainSpecialists Ah! Thank you for your explanation. Indeed whilst I understand that it is the Dorsal nerve root being pinched, I also understand that it is a separate returning branch nerve (Medial Branch?) from the nerve root that sends back the pain signals? I am currently undergoing IDD traction as a last attempt to avoid fusion surgery. Though could this be combined with Rhizolysis?
@BloorPainSpecialists
@BloorPainSpecialists 2 года назад
@@TonyG-iu4td Hi Tony G. Again, very insightful questions. Thank you for the interest. Unfortunately, again, legally, we cannot speak to your case specifically on RU-vid, but IDD Traction and rhizolysis can and are often combined therapies, among others.

Do you do RF ablation on C5 C6 neck? Does my physician refer me to you? Is the procedure covered by OHIP? Where are you located? Thank you.
@BloorPainSpecialists
@BloorPainSpecialists 2 года назад
Yes, thanks for asking! We do C5-C6 RFA, along with every other level of the spine. RFA is OHIP covered and we do need a referral (referrals@bloorpain.com or fax 647-722-9606). You can provide your family doctor or specialist with the following referral link: bloorpain.com/refer-a-patient/ and we will be happy to see you. The clinic is located at the corner of Hwy 427 and Bloor St. West, easy to get to from just about anywhere with lots of highway access nearby and the airport down the road.

I had a lumbar epidural two weeks ago. The staff were great, everyone made me very comfortable. I think the anesthesiologist gave me too much versed. I fell asleep before I got the injection and they had to wake me in the recovery room. I felt extremely fatigued for three days after. Sadly, I have not had any pain relief. I think I'm one of those people who are unaffected by steroids. 😢
