I'm from Nigeria. I agree 💯 percent with you. What you're saying here does not peculiar to Ghana alone. This happened in many parts of Africa, most people don't take their job seriously. Unlike in the western world's where some people are doing two to three jobs in a day to survive. Most Africans in Africa don't take their job seriously, and that's why many of them were so poor and least in Technology and progress. I think African people culture also contribute to this nonsense endemic. Begging others for free money. Begging for free money encourage laziness and unseriousness in our society. Dependent mentality. Whoever lives outside Africa would surely understand what I'm talking about. Families and friends would be calling you to give them money. They would not make effort to make their own money. We African people still have a very long way to go. Until we change our thinking mentality, everything will continue the same way. And the way i seeing things, most people are not ready to change for better.

Stop spreading this uneducated, chauvinistic nonsense. None of what you said is true and I’m someone who is born and raised in the west. What you should have said is Africans, or people in the global south in general do not believe in exploitation. It’s not only Africans, but different societies operate in different ways. If you go to Africa, don’t criticize their way of doing things or try to impose western ways on them. African people are some of the hardest working people on earth, just to survive they have to work hard and be mentally strong. African people are the ones who did and still do much of the back breaking manual jobs in the west. However, they also prioritize leisure, it’s also important. You blame African culture but Look at how depressed, mentally unstable and addicted many people in the west are. Africans will never work hard enough for some of you, even during slavery they were still considered lazy. If you and others before you didn’t spread propaganda about how much better and richer America and Europe are, no one back home would be asking you for anything. GTFOH !!!

I would just like to point out a few facts Rush. 1. It’s never easy to start a business or do construction anywhere. However I don’t really agree with the rhetoric of Africa being portrayed as extra difficult. You will be faced with operational and technical difficulties in Africa but that’s way better than the bureaucratic, financial, barriers to entry and glass ceilings challenges that you will face in the west. There is a reason why the overwhelming majority of developments in the west are done by medium/large firms or corporations, they have the capital to maneuver these challenges and they already have a set supply chain for the needed Human Resources and raw materials. These big firms still have operational and technical problems which is why they import these same third world workers who will get the job done by any means due to the attractiveness of western currency value. 2. In Africa you actually have access to resources and other means of production such as land. This is almost impossible and out of reach in the west. You can afford labour in Africa, this isn’t possible for a regular person in the west. The thought of actually owning land and building a house in the west is not popular even among middle class people because it’s so far out of reach that it seems illogical to most. 3. African societies are different. They execute tasks using informal and unorthodox ways but still get them done. They don’t have as much access to technology and most of the tasks are labor intensive. You are not gonna get the same amount of productivity. I would be amazed if you could put together a team of westerners (not immigrants) to do the same work that these Africans do for 1 week. They would all quit. These are just my thoughts as someone living in the west. Investing in Africa is the easiest and most attainable option as long as you are focused and have a vision.

The land the house is on in America DOES belong to the homeowner !! Have you ever bought a house ? If you have had to obtain a building permit you will see that the permit office has the land your house is built on outlined and numbered . ! The land is also on your tax bill usually titled plot with a number . I know several people who bought land and built a house of their own design .I also know people who bought a house because of the land , knocked down the old house and built a new house on on the land !It is pretty common in America . .

Rush, do you think it would be a good idea to bring in workers from another region and house them for the duration of the job? I think they will be motivated to work and produce quality work sinc they are not from the area and they have no were to go. Can you do a video about that option?

After coming back from Qatar to invest in my motherland I have regretted deeply but now am stuck and I have to survive until better days and fly. Ghana is hell when u are starting business. Lazy and unethical work behaviour too much. Never put a ghanaian in ur finance rather put them at the labour corner

I can attest to your comments here. All what you are saying are correct 💯 percent. I'm a Nigerian, I've lost tens of thousands of dollars in Nigeria due to incompetence dishonesty of our people. Base on my life experiences, this does not peculiar to Ghana alone. I think it's allover Black people countries. Nigeria even worse than Ghana in terms of dishonesty and not taken one work serious. Dishonesty and laziness is a big challenge among of we Africans in Africa. In Africa most people don't take their work seriously simple as that. They don't care about you whether you succeed or not. And that's why many Africans don't want to invest in Africa. I think begging for free money culture also contribute to this endemic behaviour in Africa. African people we're our own enemy. I don't know what we can do to change some Africans mindset to become a real human beings and not semi human beings. The way I seen things most Africans were not ready to change for better. In Nigeria when you are trying to educate people to become a good and reliable person. They'll tell you that America or Europe system will not work in Nigeria. They'll tell you that when in you're in Rome you act as a Roma. They're telling you that they don't want changes. They prefer their way of life. Because their way of life is very lazy and corrupt.

I'm feel sorry for you. Because I knew what you have went through in Qatar to save little money you have. Those hopeless people have set you back. They cannot build, they're only good to destroy others. As for me, most of we Africans we're very very terrible human beings. We Africans still have a very loooooooooong way to go. And that's why we're in the bottom because of our very bad mindset. Later these brainless people would start to complain that government did not provide jobs for them.

After spending three to four years in Ghana, do you think that there has been any improvement in the prevalence of unsafe and unprofessional work behavior? I have noticed that many diasporans are coming in and demanding better work ethic from the local Ghanaian workers. Do you think this will bring about a change, albeit slowly? It can be frustrating to observe such behavior, but it is important to remain optimistic about progress.

The poor work habits is found everywhere. But the higher percentage observed in Ghana is overwhelming. I can boldly say 90-95%. You can’t just believe it. Education should be the fundamental for these skilful people. Skills without character is useless.

Apart from the Chinese, what group of people would you say have good work ethics? As long as you find qualified people and pay well your work will get done. Reward boosts motivation. I’m not even Ghanaian and I know this. This is a universal and general phenomenon

People think credit is bad ,but I am a doctor, in the top 5% income and I would not have a house in America if not for credit! Could I have saved up to buy cash ? Probably ,now when I am at my highest income level but not 20 years ago !!Credit is the great equalizer in America ! If you look at the way Americans build homes all developments have the same design . The difference between a $350,000 house and a $800,000 house is size and cost of finishes but they are basically the same 3/4 bedroom 2 car garage with a basement and front lawn! That makes homes accessible to everyone regardless of income . The secretary and cleaner where I work own homes ! Of course the current housing market is crazy expensive ,so I am referring to US up to 3 years ago !!!

I sometimes wonder if it is not stupidity, but a deliberate act of sabotage caused by resentment , frustration and envy!! To work on a project that they know they will never possess in life, at any level , must be soul crushing !! In the US workers at the level of major construction make good money . I have had projects done in my house in America and the contractors all owned homes and they were mostly Hispanics .The guy that cuts my grass owns his own house and he is Hispanic . Add to that you guys are young which must make it even more depressing for them !Just a thought !
